Loaded up the Spit to take my first spin over the Persian Gulf.

There were no instant action or missions available, so loaded up a quick action mission starting on runway.

I flew around for right at 30 minutes in the Spit in VR.

I flew with the same graphics settings I had settled on for VR in Normandy, which are pretty conservative.

The PG Map is gorgeous. The terrain, the mountains, the sea, the ships, the lighting - to me all looks fantastic. I absolutely can not wait for next week to get the F-18 and start learning it over this map.

Ok so I would note, I always fly with ASW off for the Rift.

Performance - I found to be pretty demanding, not surprisingly. I had hoped it might be a nice improvement over Normandy, as Normandy has a lot of trees and does not use Speedtree, but did not find that to be the case. Maybe slightly better but not much.

My fps pretty much stayed right at 45 fps. Takeoff was slightly lower, but maintained 45 fps flying over the terrain and the sea ( with a few ships). Only time I would get better fps was looking up at nothing but sky in the HMD. Then it would hit 70-80 fps.

Still very much flyable for me , although not much in action was going on. Love the map though, and it is absolutely going to be great for the upcoming F-18 which I have pre-ordered and will likely not fly much in PG map until I have it and start learning it.

Of course all my flying today in the Spit was done at a very low level also, I am sure performance will be better flying considerably higher in the F-18.

I am still very glad I purchased the Persian Gulf.

Thanks very much DB.. They certainly weren't joking when they say 1080 GPU now for VR.. Out of interest, what were you getting around the desert In Nevada if you have it? Also, what were your MSAA and PD settings if you don't mind?

It has been some time since I flew over Nevada, certainly was better for me - will have to check it again though - will try to do so here shortly.

MSAA x4, PD around 1.3 I believe.

Oh ok, that's not bad FPS considering your settings then.. Especially MSAA with Deferred Shading in play!

I knocked my MSAA to 2x for better performance and discovered that my view was set to extreme although changing to high resulted in no extra FPS.

Took my huey for a spin around the east coast very nice map from first look low down

Oh and you can land choppers on the new oil tankers

Ok so I just flew over Nevada.

I loaded up the Spit Vegas Tour instant action mission, which is fun to fly.

Really I would have to say now, that performance in it was very comparable to the performance I was getting over the Persian Gulf. Pretty much stayed right at 45 fps, except when I got high ( over 2k ft) over unpopulated area, then it climbed into 60's and 70's. I did not get as high up on my flight in Persian Gulf.

I definitely would say performance wise they are about the same for me.

First impression: Visually gorgeuos and very impressisve. Great job by ED. But I must admit I am a little dissappointed about performance. A clean mission often had me dropping down into the 40's, ( I run a gtx 1080. Usually stays around the 50-60+ ballpark in NTTR and CAUC) obviously over citites, but also at major airfields. With populated mission this will get more intense. However- I am not that worried. Day 1 of an early access, it will get better.

Took the F-15C for as spin. Glad to be able get my own cockpit view of the gulf, was getting tired if watching UT videos. Lovely down low. The only way I will ever get to see it that close. :) Great job team. Now can you fast forward a week so I can :pilotfly: guess who :D

Got to create a lot of fast missions for my Spit throughout the day, set it for no enemies and a couple of wingmen, and had a blast flying over the gorgeous terrain and sea.

Now to just wait for the Hornet release next week, and I will be set!

Agree it’s v nice

Had to drop PD to 1.2 (from 1.4) to get smooth visuals (MSAA x2)

personally i keep PD to 1.5 and no MSAA it feels better instead of 1.2 wih MSAA X2

Does it not work on a 1060 6gb? I have that card and NTTR and Normandy both average 45 FPS for me, is the PG map going to be worse than those two maps on a 1060 6 gb?

Will try that but before the shimmering always made me go back to running MSAA

I found Persian Gulf to be about the same performance wise as Normandy.

I am kind of the opposite, I have to have at least 2x MSAA or it just has too 'rough" a look for me no matter the PD.

I will take a lower PD with MSAA any day (for me).

This can certainly be subjective so I would encourage folks to try various settings themselves for best overall experience.

Not sure what I was expecting but the map is so underwhelming. It is flat, with a very dense area of buildings and, uummm flat. All the fancy buildings did is remind me of every time I get gas and seeing the receipt. After a quick tour I quickly jumped in the Huey which is really what this map is for. Buzzed the tallest building, buzzed the unique "frame" and was done.

As far as fast movers it is going to be a see how low you can fly and missile dodging. It is Nellis with no mountains. Give me a piece of Afghanistan or even Syria or Iraq. Destroyed buildings, rubble and all.

You just need to get out more ;)

(of the cities)

I'm not sure what you were expecting either. The map is exactly the same topography as the real area.

They were never going to throw in a few extra mountains to make it more interesting, but that said, if you look at this map you'll see that the bits where you've been flying are flat, while most of the map on the other side of the water is not

Set up a hog night mission with cloud density 3 and full moon. Abu Musa Island airport. 1.8 gamma.

First thing. Nav lights now light up the ground and immediate surrounding areas. Very beautiful. When in flash mode, they very faintly light up the panel

Strobes, my word they are bright...

Moonlight casts shadows in the cockpit, I cannot describe how much this adds to the realism.

Sea looks very very realistic in the moonlight. Sea in daylight now has the same clarity as Normandy did in 2.1, not the blue ink that 2.5 turned it into. You can see the bottom several feet down.

Overall, the level of detail is very impressive.

Taxiway and runway lights are very impressive, the Hog landing light brightness issue is fixed, however cockpit flood light issue is still present.

If you are one of those who are holding out on principle, or because MP is not big on there yet, you are doing yourself a great disservice.

However, it is a power hungry beast in VR. I had to overclock up my 980TI by around 15% to get smooth frames. Temp only went up by 1degree though, so everything is good. Just waiting for ampere to come out.

"Was done"? So I take it you've never heard of missions you can fly in this sim? Or do you just enjoy dropping tens of dollars for an asset you're going to use once?

It is flat, with a very dense area of buildings and, uummm flat.

Well, what did you expect? Do you know how the area looks IRL? And if not, why didn't you check before purchasing, assuming you know what Google Maps is?

Nothing wrong with complaints per se, but whines like this are just sheer idiocy regardless
