ricktoberfest Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 DCS F-18 battery Just found the guy who likes to “reserve” his favorite plane in a server while he’s at work in this thread. Always wondered why that f18 just sat there the entire time I flew missions Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Vinny002 Posted February 2, 2019 Author Posted February 2, 2019 @nosferatu whisky 1-1: ED is going to fix the f-18 battery that always go flat even with the battery off!! @fourspeed: i totally disagree with you!! When the f-18 battery goes flat even with the battery off is a big deal!!! Cheers, Vincent
Eldur Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Maybe in reality the F-18 just wants to be an italian car? Ferraris tend to go for no real reason flat after standing for only days (new cars, keep thati n mind) That just proves a Ferrari ain't any better than a FIAT (Fehler In Allen Teilen = errors in all parts) - just being faster BTW I've been running DCS idle for over 3 hours as well on rare occasions. F10 - ESC - ALT+TAB though to keep CPU and GPU usage low. Sometimes real life just happens and you don't want to quit your session when you're just sitting on the ground or being in SP, able to completely pause the sim. Though the latter one wouldn't bring up the battery issue Remembers me of the MiG-21s air pressure... acting up similarly
Robin_Hood Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Actually, even with the battery switch in OFF, the Utility battery still powers the maintenance bus, allowing the operation of the canopy and maintenance monitor (ever noticed you can operate the canopy with no electrical power whatsoever?), and the Emergency battery powers the emergency battery bus, although I haven't found info about this one in the manual. So, there is still some electrical power, however I suppose it should not drain the batteries if not used (however if you play with the canopy, this may be a different story). 2nd French Fighter Squadron
shagrat Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 AFAIK the battery switch for the canopy etc. is on the outside of the plane and operated by the ground crew. It does make sense if you consider sitting in the cockpit, shutting down the battery and realise you are now trapped in the plane... so you leave the cockpit open and find that wind and weather is not good for an open cockpit. It's similar in most modern planes from what has been discussed here... :book: Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Rennes Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 The switch on the outside of the plane is just a duplicate of the one on the inside (except you have to hold it while opening the canopy). You can operate either whether the battery switch is turned on or off.

Most airplanes have certain items that are always "hot" regardless of the airplane's switch configuration. In Hornet, these include the hook and I think remembering the refueling probe to name some visible ones.
Vinny002 Posted February 2, 2019 Author Posted February 2, 2019 Hi, robin_hood! That makes sense!! How do I shut down the utility battery? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent
AKarhu Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Hi, robin_hood! That makes sense!! How do I shut down the utility battery? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent By putting the battery switch to off. You cannot unplug a list of things, but these will not consume significant power unless they are independently operated.
Vinny002 Posted February 2, 2019 Author Posted February 2, 2019 @ARkaru: like what? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent
Vinny002 Posted February 3, 2019 Author Posted February 3, 2019 @flaming_squirrel: how do i turn off the canopy and clock, and where is the clock located in the F-18? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent
pete_auau Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 @flaming_squirrel: how do i turn off the canopy and clock, and where is the clock located in the F-18? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent you cant turn off the canopy unless you remove the batteries from the hornet or open up the panels and pull the cct breakers for the canopy

AKarhu Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 @ARkaru: like what? Thanks! Cheers, Vincent Canopy, clock. That's all I've got. The maintenance monitor as well, which is located in the nose gear bay. Probably something else too, which I have actively forgotten. :)
EcceHomo Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Hi, guys!! I noticed something is not right! Even with the DCS F-18 battery off the battery discharge. Any solution for this problem? Thanks!! Cheers, Vincent This is a problem. In F-18AC-NFM-000: " On aircraft 161353 THRU 163118 AFTER AFC 090 and 163119 AND UP, an automatic battery cutoff circuit is provided which cuts off the battery from the essential dc bus 5 minutes after internal or external ac power is removed from the aircraft while on the ground with the battery switch in ON. Once the battery cutoff is activated, the battery can be reconnected to the essential dc bus for additional 5-minute periods by either of three procedures: momentarily placing the APU switch ON, cycling the battery switch to OFF then ON, or cycling the MMP enable switch in the nosewheel well to RESET and back to NORM with the battery switch out of the ON position. The automatic battery cutoff circuit has no effect on operation of the ORIDE position of the battery switch."

Flamin_Squirrel Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 I'm not sure why you think looking for a work around is the correct response to a bug...
Deano87 Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Because this thread is 5 pages longer than it needs to be and in the wrong forum. Op (or whoever else cares about this bug) should post it in the bug forum where bugs are meant to be reported, with a track showing the bug as requested by the Devs. Ground power is the only workaround until it’s fixed and since Its only 3 or 4 clicks it’s not exactly world ending to have to use. Eagle7907 Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 DCS F-18 battery ....with a track showing the bug as requested by the Devs. You do realize that would be a track 3+ hours long? Please share with us how we can post such a track. Seriously. Not even ED would provide an answer. Deano87 Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 (edited) Left Ctrl-Z speeds up time. Spawn a single F-18 in a mission and speed up time to as fast as your computer can handle. Wait till 3 hours of sim time has elapsed. Shift-Z sets time back to normal. Check battery function, if bug present (dead battery) exit out and save track. I’d do it myself but the bug doesn’t bother me enough to be bothered. If track is too large to post here then use something like Dropbox to create a public link you can post here.
