mastercosta Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 i am stuck in ARGO campaign mission 4 because in 2.5 is the lack of "power/distance" of the searchlight and landing light... we have to navigate in pitch black (even in 3.4 gamma) is really "impossible" ... i only see my searchlight if i am really close to land... i never drive a real heli but i believe this is not very accurate judge by footage in tv news and movies. vvince Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Yes, same here : the mission is unplayable at the moment, you see nothing if flying at more than 2m above ground (in which case you'll collide with trees or power line). Hope the lighting will be fixed soon in DCS World 2.5 Cheers Vvince

DeTesla Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 The emitters of light is outdated in DCS. We need a rework of the lighting system aswell as new sprites. Sandman1330 Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 In real life, the searchlight is effective to about 200ft AGL, any more and it disperses quite quickly. I haven’t tested in DCS to see if it meets this metric or not, but FYI. flappybird Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 I have experienced this as well, and stuck at the same point. I traversed the narrow water ways or canyon in search of refugees, but my search light seemed like it needed new batteries (LOL) I could not tell if it was on only a few feet from the ground or water.
tlgibson97 Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 The Argo missions don't allow NVG's unfortunately. When the Argo missions first came out, I was able to play through and the lights worked. Now I can't get through this mission because the light doesn't work for me at all. I switch to the outside view to ensure it is pointing in the right direction but nothing ever illuminates on the ground. Only the landing light shows. But it is only good within a few feet of the ground. This mission is pretty difficult without light. You're in a valley between mountains with trees, power lines, and buildings. But pretty much the only thing giving you ground reference is the cars on the road.

MeerCaT Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 I've recently played through that campaign too and yes I recall some difficulty with the first few night missions. Luckily though NVGs are not prohibited for the entire campaign, they become available a little later on. As suggested by someone else in this thread, a small 'cheat' that made the mission possible for me was to increase the "Gamma" value in the DCS settings. It wasn't necessary for me, but bear in mind you could also adjust the settings on your physical montor too (brightness, contrast, gamma). Keep us posted on what, if anything, works for you in the end.
Babok Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 these thing do not work over 20feet with low gamma, they are just powerful taxi lamp :(
DeTesla Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 The searchlights\landing lights are currently useless, and they have been useless since release. The same goes for the nav-lights and anti-coll light which sprites are currently going through the fuselage and illuminating inside the cabin.. My hope is that ED has fixed this when they release multi-crew now in May. Searchlights are a WIP addition, we thought people would appreciate having them early, even if they were not 100% ready for prime time, I guess not everyone feels that way. With the addition of a collective the SL feature is pretty neat. I too wish it were brighter (It’s nice to know that it will be) but it’s fun to play with. I’ve been practicing keeping it locked on a moving target while orbiting that target. Maybe I’ll get decent at it before it’s fully implemented :music_whistling: Edited May 1, 2020 by Thick8 All of my posted work, ideas and contributions are licensed under the Creative Commons - Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0,) which precludes commercial use but encourages sharing and building on for non-commercial purposes, ©John Muldoon

Sorry guys, was a long night last night that night and I thought this was in reference to the new WWII searchlights. My bad. The Huey ones do need love for sure, and I know for a fact it is reported. Northstar98 Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 Just one small thing, I wonder if the searchlight moving in a jittery fashion will be corrected? Or does it really move like that? At least on the 2.5.5 stable, the Mi-8's searchlights move smoothly, whereas the UH-1's do not. Grajo Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Hi, I hope Huey and Mi-8 searchlights get a nice update at some point. It would make night flying a lot more interesting. I understand that they should be a lot more powerful, so they cover at least 10 times the distance they do now. That way we can really use them for what they are meant in real life. If the increase of "power" of these lights causes some kind of big performance issues them I would understand that their update could take some time, but if it is just about editing a couple of text files... then I would really appreciate a hot fix before 2.5.6 arrives to stable. Thanks! Link to my MODs - So far...
