Hi

Since I use DCS, I have the real feeling that ED never comes to read this section of the forum.

When we have an issue in the bug section, the answer and help from ED comes very quickly, but here, in the wishlist: never any answer from ED.

Perhaps, sometimes wer'e asking something impossible to do for any reasons, technicals, no commercial interest or stuffs reported by the 1.16 rule but when we ask some things that existed in old ..old... versions, like a good behaviour of AI ( systematic interrupted approach if a plane moves on the taxiway, totally unrealistic) or when I asked police cars when the NTTR map was realeased, I have the feeling to not being listened. For the police cars, it's done by an user ( Joe Rowe) but for the AI, I know it's possible because it was the case before, so that surely doesn't need a big work from ED to restore an already existing thing.

These are just exemples but that shows that ED surely never comes in this section of the forum and if this section exists, it's just for us a rantroom for the customers we are.

Just because they don't reply doesn't mean they don't read.

Can you tell me the percent of wishes debated here, have been done by ED ( except some functions of existing modules or some modules, surely planned by ED before being asked here ) ?

Yes but of course, and ED have statistics on that too. Its 0.78% for 2015, 0.34 for 2016, 0.53 for 2017, 0.88 for 2017 (was a good year that), 0.52 for 2018 and so far just 0.21 for 2019.

wishes are wishes debated or not, ED don't have to implement any of them.

Is this thread a "I cant get my own why thread?" :megalol:

I remember Wags saying once that they do read wishes and also considering some of them.

Actually, if you look just how ED changed priorities for Hornet systems implementation or how they said that due to strong feedback they favour combat theatres over training ones, yeah, I am pretty sure they do read and do listen to us, their fans and customers.

It takes a fraction of time to write a wishlist post compared to how long it takes to actually implement a feature. In the last week there have been almost 40 wishlist threads posted in. If you had someone who is able to just work on whatever they want whenever, then sure some of them might not be more than a days work. But it doesn't work like that. Simply fitting a feature into someones schedule is complex enough in itself. That doesn't account for how planning, design, and other considering might apply before writing a line of code or starting a new model.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

I'm agree with you that you can't satisfying all asks. But as I previously said, some of them can be easily implemented because you have already the model. As I said in exemple, a long time ago, the AI planes had a good behaviour and didn't interrupt final approach when an other AI had a taxi clearance. So you have already the code lines to restore that easily but nothing comes. I remember too, that some years ago, I asked police cars to make police missions with helicopters in Las Vegas. And one day, I saw somewhere near an NTTR airfield, a static police car. So you had the model. It wasn't a big work to just animate it and validating it in the ME, but no, nothing happened.

And the cars in LV streets: All grey or blue. But you have the models in statics as the parking all around are full of various cars. It's just a little game for ED to animate them and validate them in the ME.

Sometimes I've often asked an asset pack with civilian peoples and said that I was ready to pay for that. But you surely made a market research and find that it wasn't gainful for ED because we aren't many customers enough to ask that. In this case I can understand why you havn't made, because you havn't models ready and you would have to work to create them, but I don't understand why you're not making when you have already the models and the code lines.

This section is huge and rather unorganized.

If ED is going to pay attention to something here, it will probably have to be a rather large thread with a lot of replies.

I think it could be nice to see a bit more back and forth between us and ED though, maybe they could pick out some feasible ideas when they do look through the wishlist and ask us which of those we'd like to see. It would be hard for them to keep up with everything in an unfiltered state.

The wishlist forum is not a official developer roadmap. It is a trashcan of the ideas, a mailbox for fan letters.

There is someone who goes through them at some given point, pick a good ideas etc, likely forward the idea to some other project/team manager and they decide if it is put on the wall in their own internal roadmap.

A producer that doesn't read it's clients wish lists - highly improbable, don't you think? Just because they haven't said so doesn't mean they aren't paying attention.

Or did you imagine they'd immediately drop everything they were doing every time someone came up with some crackpot idea about what to produce next?

*I* wish people would stop creating stupid threads centered on around petulant whining... but it's a public forum and I can't always get what I want *sigh*

No, they don't personally respond to each of the tens of thousands of (often duplicated, triplicated, or more) wishes, and they don't respond to the completely unrealistic or stupid ones either (at least every other thread). Occasionally, wishes get noted and forwarded to the team. Their future implementation, even if it occurs, does not result in a ''FULFILLED'' stamp on the relevant threads, no.

Are you a dev ?

No I'm not a dev but without being a dev, I had come to create for me, a moving car by taking a static model of an user's file, and editing a lua. If I could find where the models of static cars of NTTR are hidden in DCS files and their names, it's long time ago that I would do the same for them. Just to say that's is surely easy when you know exacly what's their name and where are the files.

For the AI behaviour, I don't know if it's difficult or not. All that I know it's the fact than before, the AI planes had a good behaviour. It's surely not difficult to restore that, since ED knows how doing. It would be different if the AI planes never had a good behaviour. But since some years ago, they had, why not now ? Especcially since this behaviour is totally unrealistic. Have you ever seen in the real life, a plane aborting an approach just because an other plane on the parking gets the clearance to taxying ?

Bignewy, I never said that ED must realise all the wishes seen here. Especially that few of them made me laugh because not very serious . This thread isn't " I can' get my own why thread" but " I have the feeling that people aren't listened here in this section" instead. Not only for my wishes but wishes of many people. I absolutly do not question the quality of DCS-World, I use it every day and take many pleasure with it, but some details like the AI behavoiur or the monotonous colors of the moving cars in LV, are lowering a little bit the global high level quality of this simulation. And I think that these little things could be easily fixed.

It would be a lot of work to read all wishes, but could it be a idea to have a list with all the modules where users could mark of the certain module they have game crash/freeze with after every update? That way it would be easyer for ED to see what should be priorety and for users to see that they not is "alone" with bugs on that module?

No I'm not a dev [...]

Then how would you know if something is easy/short or not ?

Surely adding the other color vehicles or police car might not take a lot of time as you said you did it, but anything beyond that is not time estimable by anyone outside of the company.

I'm a dev and I won't ever say anything about the time things should take.

Ah not really, I "got" like 3 wishes in .... it took ~3 years but hey I'm happy :D

One of the old ones still back of my mind, to have selectable runway number takeoff slot, one airstrip is actually two runways, for each direction, currently it's all hardcoded with only one slot at the center and I never figured how to control the direction it's facing when starting the mission.

Or just the with the airfields that "support" takeoff from any direction in real life, if it has anything to do with only having landing lines(assistance) on one side they might prohibit takeoffs and use them for landing only, just speculating there.

Now we got the download_dir for the DCS updater, but not that I'm not satisfied, unless this behavior is changed we should also get an "unpack_dir" to specify yet another storage device as there's another step in the updating process. The DCS Updater does not directly unpack/install into the installation and it's been like that since I remember, it first unpacks the torrents after downloading, which I explained in a thread quite some time ago where an actual a real ED developer responded, however he did not agree with me even tho I had it all on video later (he forgot to check back maybe) and I'm basically updating right now, seeing 8 GB download, 26 GB unpack to the same HDD drive it was downloading, except it's outside the .torrents folder, and now the "third" step (there's more misc steps the updater does before), we're installing the unpacked from the HDD to my SSD, so I'm not making this up. The unpacking part takes the longest because it has to read and write with the same HDD which ofcourse takes double the time as the speed is halved.

So it may just be easier/faster to add an unpack dir option than with the design and behavior of the updater if there's a purpose it unpacks only first, like if the altnernatives are too complicated to do reliably (yeah patching systems are complicated, Blizzard did new for their games and the system while has many benefits is more prone to corruption/confusion in the middle of the update, as a tradeoff, for example)
