Will it be easier to "add" new airbases? I mean, will modders be able to add new airbases this time, without replacing existing ones? Previously this was not possible. Also all that MEINIT.XML editing was hell. Since you dropped MEINIT this time...

Adding airbases should be possible by adding "new files" without editing existing ones. Engine should recognize that new zip files are available in let's say - ground scenery addon folder - and load them up. That's my wish.

Enlighten us, Wags. Please.

It will be possible to place small "airfields" for the Ka-50, might be possible for the regular airfields too, could be hard to find a flat spot of suitable size though...

You can place a FARP for taking off and landing, only need about 100metres x 100metres of flat ground.

Are you planing to add free placeable airstrips for fixed wing aircraft? Altough without a flyable fixed wing aircraft in the initial release it might not be of high priority. On the other hand, the comming A-10 would realy benefit from dirtstrips.

Hi all,

do we get any new airbases in Black Shark?! If so, how many and where?!

...and the airfields should dispose more service-objects (Vehicles, Stuff...) ;).

Yeah I always thought why Russian airports don't have street lamps, fences and many details which should have.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

ED (or any tester or other person who actually knows for sure) - I wasn't quite sure from the site's text - does the new terrain include the whole extent of the old LO terrain + some new terrain to give a larger map, or some of the terrain covered by LO + enough new to give a larger map (I ask because because the Crimean peninsular is not shown, but that could have been to give a high enough scale to allow the new area to be seen properly..)

Cheers.

Only for a future expansion but could ED - DCS consider to enlarge the map to the East ONLY 170 Km?

Well, Chechniya is very near from Mineralnyye Vody and this location could be one of the best to play missions and campaigns.

I hope and believe that Crimea is still a part of the BS map despite the fact that it's not visible in the screenshot above.

It would be very dissapointing if it's left out...

Airfield icons are quite large in that map screenshot! Is that the way we'll have it in BS Mission editor?!

I think there's an airport in Essentuki too but don't take me for granted, I'll consult with Google Earth!

The Crimea had to be sacrificed to make database room for the new areas. The current engine supports a finite number of ground objects and to be able to add the kind of detail and density ED wanted for the helicopter sim, some room had to be made internally. Further expansion into the Caucasus is also necessary for a more realistic mission and campaign background, with some areas on the map already "hot" in reality (Nalchik city for example).

While it would've been nice to be able to keep everything, on balance the benefit is worth the cost, as it allows for much greater ground detail and more relevant geo-political background. The Crimea will probably still be in the sim, but flat and empty like other unmapped parts of the world.

Too bad that Crimea terrain elevation is gone but since I had no problem with terrain mesh standard in LO:FC and I thought that only new parts of the map (Georgian map expansion) will be upgraded to new detail but having "old" Caucasus region highly detailed too ain't that bad.

In fact...it's welcome!

... Really? How is it that DCS seems to have this incredible crunch on theatre space, yet MSFS and FO are encompassing the entire world? No sarcasm here, I really want to know the answer to this, it's perplexing. And yes, I know DCS has way more detail than MSFS, but you guys haven't seen the FighterOps screenshots they released in "Area-51," very high quality work. I really hope we get some expansion in future modules, the smallness of this theatre has and probably will continue to limit the flxibility of the game. My two great joys would be to see the Pacific Northwest (meaning Oregon, Washington, and BC) done as well as the Israel-Syria-Egypt-Iraq-Iran-Jordan-Saudi hotspot.

I'm not specifically talking about the development time, I certainly understand why ED doesn't want to go global... yet. However, I am still wondering how MSFS can get the entire globe, yet DCS has to sacrifice the Crimean to add any terrain.

I'm happy with ED's decision to expand/develop/enhance the Caucasus because that's where the interesting topography is. The Crimea is very "flat"/geographically dull in comparison.

(In my 3 years of flying LO, 2 of which with the 504, almost all of the A2G missions were in the Caucasus, only using the Kerch straits as a convenient Red vs Blue divider).
