I think wireless HMDs will likely arrive faster than we think. There is talk of 6ghz connections for high bandwidth, with a number of new headsets in the works. Some have eye tracking. VR is becoming more widespread which will benefit those of us in the sim community. It will be interesting to see what Oculus brings with the new quest.

Wireless is nice, but my sessions last many hours. I prefer a light cable over a heavy accumulator.

Thanks for your inputs. My issue with the Reverb cable is the stiffness and replacing the original with some kind of self made will be beyond my abilities. Next to this I fear that it'll cause more problems with trouble shooting in case it doesn't work properly. Would be great if the new Gen 2 cable is far better and coud be used with the Gen 1 as well.

As I have someone willing to buy my Gen 1 I'm thinking of getting a Gen 2. Otherwise I wouldn't do that.

Great! Thanks for this info @imacken! Seems I missed that detail!!!

I am still sitting on a original Odyssey which I was not able to sell. I have a reverb now and want the G2 but in my experience it's been hard to sell these headsets. The rift Cv1 was an easy sell though.

I may just list it on the hoggit section of Reddit for cheap. Otherwise I'm sitting here with headset boxes in my closet.

The Price is 599$ in pre order.
Just wondering if there is any advantage in price doing pre-order?

Will the price change down the line after release?

Yup, and it would be nice if the entire cable assembly on a VR headset was as easy to replace as the cable/mic assembly on the Aviation X.

To answer your earlier question about the pre-order, I was also taken to the Connection web-site. Had to shut it down and then manually find the HP pre-order button with a Google search just to make sure the link in this thread hadn't been hijacked. Still ended up at that Connection web-site, so it looks like its legitimate. Hopefully this is a move by HP to try to improve their handling of logistics, which was a complete fuster-cluck last time.

Ah, thanks. Makes sense. Seems if you go to Steam to preorder it takes you to the same place as well.

Nope. There no advantages. Oops...Yes one! The low price stays put. :D

I had the same experience with reverb G1.

Less then the most headsets and a premium product. :D

Very doubtful in the long run. For example, I ordered my RIFT immediately when they started taking orders. Later on it was 60 % of this price and INCLUDED controllers, which basically never went on sale. So the early adopters ended up paying more than double if they wanted the full package. That’s the price of being an early adopter I guess. I think the RIFT, this new RVerb, and a few DCS modules might be the only things I’ve ever preordered. Usually I’m more sensible. DCS :pilotfly:

In essence you pay higher for getting a taste of the product before others.

I can clearly see it in dcs too. I pre-ordered th Hornet and Viper. I was looking at those prices during the recent sale period. It was hard fighting those envious feelings but again I had been enjoying it for more than year.

In the sense of the reverb, I have yet to see it drop price. I'm sure it will once the G2 comes out, or they may not even sell it anymore after that. I know oculus in general has been on sale now and then if you look around and the Samsung headset as well.

The only thing you miss out on is if they can't get distribution right and HP ends up out of stock for a long time after initial preorders. Let's say it reviews really well and if you didn't preorder you wont get one for 2-3 months maybe more.

Im thinking the Reverb G2 could be first HMD I like. But I can remember a statement from HP regarding ReverbG1, that it dont need IPD-adjustment, because the sweetspot is so big.:cry::cry:

I owned the Reverb and IMO the sweetspot was tiny. Rift S is far ahead in that regard.

Thinking of this statement, Im not sure the G2 will be everybody expects it to be....

Will for sure not preorder for that reason and wait for the first reviews.

Go to 02:20 for the statement (cited)

That is always the safe way and $600 is nothing to be sneezed at if it is disappointing. But the price is fine for most of us if it lives up to expectations.

Article doesn't go into much detail about the tracking. Seems like the extra camera won't help for head tracking according to the article but should help for controller tracking. I personally use a hotas and my mouse for any cockpit related manipulation.

Yeah same here. I have tried using the Touch Controllers for my Rift S , but just keep finding the mouse easier.

Same. Its just too much of a pain in the rear to keep trying to find your grip on a hand controller that's dangling from your wrist most of the time while you're flying. Much easier to find and use the mouse. The new controller design will definitely be a welcome change on the G2 for playing Alyx though. The present-day WMR controllers are so awful that I've been regularly calling my Rift CV1 back from retirement, even though the visual quality is so much worse than the Reverb. Doesn't do much good to be able to see the world better if your attempts to interact with that world are as clunky as they are with the current controllers.

I think I'll wait and upgrade my 1080ti first. The 3080ti or whatever it will be turns out will be a more expensive card this time around compared to what the 20 series were when they launched.

I read an article that the shroud for the fan itself costs $150 to make for the 3080Ti so over all it's gonna cost much more.

Heck with a card that big I may need a bigger case overall. Then I'll upgrade to the G2 once I put the G1 for sale. Otherwise I'm just collecting headsets at this point.

Interested on the G2 as well as an upgrade for my Quest and CV1. Does anyone know if they issue refunds for order cancellations prior to shipping?

I couldn’t find any info on their weird website, sent an email and even called. My call was transferred to some office guy that had no idea about what a reverb was lol.

No Compromise Headset

Well, it still comes with crappy WMR controllers, even though those got buffed (finally having ABXY buttons and grip key axes!). Visible light tracking that eat batteries for breakfast... facehoof.png

The other improvements over the Pro are very welcome... possibly could consider that HMD in the future for flying, but I wouldn't want to play VR games with those controllers still. Maybe I'm just too spoilt by having Oculus Touch controllers*... those aren't even Index knuckles with Lighthouse tracking though cheerilee.png

*They last one - two weeks on a single eneloop each. The WMRs are said to be depleted in 4 hours on TWO 1.5V batteries each. My eneloops max out at ~1.38 on the charger.

And TBH, good controllers are even important in DCS. Using the mouse sucked already with TrackIR unless I momentarily paused it, and it's a lot worse in VR. Touch controllers OTOH are great, no need to search for the cursor all the time!

BTW: Next step OLED plz luna-trcv.png

The controllers are 'crappy' even though you haven't tried them yet?

My experience is certainly different to yours. I have owned several HMDs, including CV1, Vive Pro, Index, etc., and, althought not the best, I have not had any problems with the Reverb controllers.

I have played through HL:A, Arizona Sunshine and many other games quite successfully with them and had no issues at all.

Similarly, I have no issues using the mouse in DCS in either TrackIR or VR. Personally, I cannot see why anyone would want to use controllers, but that's just down to personal preference.
