Finally in today's patch after ejecting, pilots can walk on the deck of the carrier (reviously you would fall thru the deck). This might look as something insignificant. but with the Supercarrier coming, it's going to be amazing to watch in first person the flight deck activity (even if you have to eject to do it :)

I just tried it in VR and in the old Stennis it's mindblowing seeing Hornets and tomcats launch and recover, from the perspective of being there. Just try it!! BTW, it doesn't seem to work all the times, one out of ten attempts, I fell through the deck.

Thanks ED!!

I just go to F2 view, press Lctrl+F11 and free view. Adjust view as i want and walk around in my living room. Bam.

EDIT: usable in airbases not with Stennis (only if Stennis is not moving/stopped).

About carrier ops: "The younger pilots are still quite capable of holding their heads forward against the forces. The older ones have been doing this too long and know better; sore necks make for poor sleep.'

I know, the thing, as you pointed out is that you can't use Lctrl+F11 with a moving carrier. That's the great thing about nmow being able to walk as an ejected pilot. It allows you to walk around a moving carrier from a 1st person perspective. I've been watching a full cycle of launches and recoveries for the last hour in VR and it's amazing. Actually I never noticed that AI now follows CASE I recovery rules with the stack and the overhead break!

Would be amazing to be able to spawn as a pilot and do a walk-around of your aircraft before entering the cockpit. It'd truly give you a sense of the size of each bird, something being stuck in the cockpit doesn't allow. Given that we can already walk around, I don't think this would be a difficult task to implement?

Possibly a dumb question, but... What mission do you load to see sustained carrier ops like that with a moving carrier? Or did you create your own?

Thanks!

I believe he's just ejecting, possibly while AC is on deck. In case you didn't know, you can walk around once you've ejected.

Thanks, and understood on that part. I didn't explain it well, but my question is more about within what mission he is ejecting. In other words, all those AI aircraft doing cyclic ops are generated by some mission, either user created or included with a module (Hornet most likely).

Basically I created a mission with like 20 hornets, a hawkeye, a viking and a greyhound (it requires the greyhound addon) taking off from the stennis (currently the planes spawn on deck as more space becomes available). All groups with a single waypoint and then back to the boat. A 45 mimutes cycle.

You can see the different flights orbiting in the stack at different altitudes, and then breaking over the boat. really cool

At the start of the mission I ejected from my hornet right after going full afterburner to leave cat 1 vacant and landed on the deck.

Here it is the mission file. is a very simple execise, but last night I spent like an hour in VR in pure awe walking around the deck :)

I point point out that although your pilot can walk on deck, aircraft now bounce around on the deck and its off topic? Carriers are broken and its a thread about carriers. You cant seriously try any harder to damage control the screw up.

Probably should have worded it more like "Walking around on the deck is super cool, after your plane gets destroyed while trying to re-arm, or close the canopy, or remove the wheel blocks!". It's more of a happy go lucky deal i have noticed. Disagree with something......WARN WARN WARN. Point out obvious communication problems......crickets. Say how great you think ED is.....God himself will pop into the thread to thank you for your patients and support.

It is a really cool to be able to walk around on the deck, pre-flight "inspection' or a brown shirt counting your pins would be cool too though.:D

They do this since quite a while... 2019 at least. ;)

Thanks for sharing the mission file, Jafergon! Hopefully Super Carrier will come with a number of quick start missions with crowded decks and full launch and recovery cycles.

I think it would be cool to be able to do walk arounds/preflight inspections, then get in the cockpit. Would add some immersion.

Probably not right now if you fly Tomcats - you would be chasing the plane around as it slides all over the deck until it hits something solid and explodes.

This recall my memory in MSFS, which a paid third party module called walk & follow.

I guess ED might go that way 😛

Hopefully, the new Battlefield Productions 3rd party guys will make this happen.

Even if there is no FPS yet, I really would just like a pilot that can move around the battlefield in an FPS type of way.

Maybe be able to jump into working aircraft that you own.  And into vehicles if you have Combined Arms.

I recall a few years ago you were able to eject, land and walk to a UAZ get in and drive around.

Not sure if this feature is still functional, i don't think it is.

Yeah, I remember hearing that.  I think it was a flash in the pan that got dumped for one reason or another.

You can still walk around with the arrow keys, but it's very stiff.  Would love to see an "ARMA" like character that can jog and walk around the land.
