Non Historical loadouts

I think that this F14 is great,. But maybe they should include a non Historical loadout option with such weapons as the shrike anti radiation missile or the AGM- 78 or even the harm,. Does anyone think this is a good idea, think heatblur should do this?

Absolutly not! I don't want some fantasy systems on the F-14, because apart from implementing the weapons itself, Heatblur would have to implement some totally fantasy avionic interfaces for the Tomcat for the crew to interact with the weapon. That's not what DCS is about...

 

Heatblur already gave us loadouts that have never been used in real life, like the Zuni rockets, but they have been integrated into the Tomcat in real life at least, just never used.

It's a no from me as well. If you you want those weapons the Hornet is what you want. The F-14 only ever used dumb bombs in their various guises or LGB iirc which is why I prefer it, it's more about flying than lots of different systems. It is for me anyway.

Nope! The F-14B we have is not capable of employing HARM. The analogue systems were not ready for these types of weapons. That's why you have the decoys. The LANTIRN is based on the jury rigged original implementation and uses the interfaces it did in real life. So LGB and bombs were tested and used, but I am not aware there were any plans do have the Tomcat do SEAD with ARMs.

Though you could in theory drop a Shrike from a weather balloon the Tomcat is the wrong platform for that weapon. I rather see an A-6 for that.

Pass from me, and personally I think there should be an option to restrict the more imaginative loadouts like more than four bombs or the rockets.

Something like a Shrike or HARM?...No, the appeal of something like the F-14 is to have something like an F-14. If you want a plane that can do everything and do it well you have the F-18 and the F-16 (once its complete).

 

Besides you can still do SEAD and Anti Ship with the Tomcat, its just a shit load more interesting as you need to use a mix of TALDs and Rockets/bombs rather then Yeeting a missile way outside the SAM/Ship's range and getting a kill.

 

However on that note, I wouldn't mind seeing more modern upgrades and thus the weapons that come with said upgrades. It wouldn't happen for probably a year or more as chances are HB wants to finish up with the F-14 for now come March 2021 and (most likely assuming ED lets them) move onto the A-6 and make that an actual module.

 

The end result I'd like to see is the F-14D eventually but even a F-14B/U with the Sparrowhawk HUD, PTID and other upgrades which would allow for the use of JDAMs would be cool to see. I know though that HB has said before they just don't have the information at this time for either.

 

and some very small part of me would like to see an F-14D using AIM-120A/Bs instead of AIM-7s just for the meme since it was only 1 software integration away from doing so irl but its still a pipe dream

Only if pulse launchers for micro-photon torpedoes are included. AND type VII phaser strips on the vertical stabs for point defense.

All jokes set aside, (i have no idea how we would get the data required) there is one set of cool features that i would love to get my hands on. And that involves the stuff that got tested during AIM/ACEVAL. Just so i could recreate the tests :P

Which afforded the F-14 another decade of service. Diversify or die. And OEF and OIF would not have gone as well for the Navy if the F-14 hadn't been available as the premier carrier-borne strike fighter. They made the right choice.

Sure, don't begrudge that. The number seems so small in light of todays procurements that both should be doable and WRT this thread, AMRAAM loadouts on the Tomcat shouldn't exactly strain plausibility anymore than Zuni rockets.

 

I find myself hoping for an ST21 mod one of these days with the LANTIRN and nav FLIR built into the Phoenix fairings... AMRAAM replacing Sparrow...
