FoxTwo Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 Good grief, do we have to continue with this? Been gone through here so many times already. In the UK, 2080 Ti £1100-£1400, 3090 £1400-£1800. Please compare like with like. Are you implying that a MSI gaming x trio is not comparable to a EVGA FTW3? How's this then. The MSI Gaming X Trio 3090 would only be $1900 after tax. By grabthar's hammer, what a savings.
dburne Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 This has become a pointless discussion. It is simple, if you don't feel the extra 10-20% is worth double the price, then fine, don't buy a 3090. I you do feel it is, then look forward to that extra performance. This post says it all. Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|

Harlikwin Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 @AURELIUS wait until next year, around may june it will come ;) or ED optimizes Vr first. Then we don't need the card anymore ... :) :megalol: Lol, when ED optimizes VR :megalol: When I started playing like 2+ years ago ago everyone was like Vulkan... 2 Years later, vulkan is still 2 years away... :megalol: New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. Harlikwin Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 In the other thread Harlikwin you asked me about the test conditions, so I will reply here. I did not have a chance to really even get into the card. I brought an SSD with DCS on it and one of my Reverbs. After farting around for about 40 min to get shit set up, I flew the three test missions I always fly, the P-51 at Batumi, the Su-27 over Dubai and the Hornet on the Condition III approach (at night). The settings were almost everything set to the max. The results were: P-51 at Batumi - The 3090 displayed a FPS increase of 41% over the 2080 Ti. (For example, my 2080 Ti at home hangs at around ~ 30 FPS but the 3090 averaged about 42 to 43 FPS.) Su-27 over Dubai - The 3090 displayed a FPS increase of 28% over the 2080 Ti Hornet at night - The 3090 displayed a FPS increase of 34% over the 2080 Ti. That is all I got to do before I got booted off :) It was rough and dirty and I am not sure when I can steal some of their time away again. Thanks man. Yeah, food for thought for sure though. 30-40% is about what I expected the actual increase to be for the 2080ti to 3090 so I might have to go through with it. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. Guess I am glad EVGA is not doing that with the 3090 FTW3 Ultra, in that case might be tempting. Still don't think I need to spend all that extra cash for what is likely a small gain over 3080. I may just hang out a while with my EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3 and see if something in between the 3080 and 3090 comes out in a few weeks. I won't have the Reverb G2 for a few more weeks anyway and this 2080 Ti is handling this Rift S fairly well. Rogue Trooper Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 I agree. waiting is the best option for me. I have a feeling that the new 30XX cards may have something to offer me with my incoming G2. I think there may be something special here as time passes. HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!. Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

Waxer Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 (edited) Jayz2cents video where he takes the backplate off the XC3 to show the cheaper capacitors. Solution is likely software patch to lower the allowed overclock bins. Pretty confident the higher specification FTW3s would not repeat the same mistake. Edit: XC3 uses 5 of the cheaper caps, not 6. With 1 bank of more expensive mini caps (not 2, not 0). And EVGA's position is that for the XC3 it is "within specifications". ie don't expect stability if you push the overclock. FTW3: EVGA reengineered the card to get rid of the 2 of the cheaper caps and install two banks of the many, smaller caps. This explains the shipping delay on launch. But the card should be good for retail release. Edited September 26, 2020 by Milou [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Waxer Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I just watched this because the XC3 is the 3090 that FalconNW is using. Glad he was using EVGA as a good example, not a bad one. His video is of 3080's, though... I wonder what the situation is with 3090's. Base model Zotac = Bad. Base model EVGA / XC3 = "Within specifications" Base model Asus/ TUF = using the more expensive capacitors. Testers found this one of the best budget end cards of the 3080 AIBs and a better performer than the Founders Edition. Asus engineers did a good job. You can take comfort in Jacobs words about the XC3, but the hardware re engineering was limited to the FTW3. The XC3 was not intended for pushing overclocks and likelihood is that such activity will be hardware limited and that EVGA will push a bios that will prevent the failure / crash limit being reached.
