spacefox Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Hi guys, With the current sale going on, how good is Mig-15 as I just bought F-86 in the sale. From the outside they both look very similar. I really want to learn the systems and fly campaigns (I see F-86 has 2 campaigns in the store). I only use VR in DCS. If they are similar, should I save money and just enjoy the F-86. Out of these two, which are most feature complete and how good are they in VR? and will Mig-15 have english cockpit (there is no way I can read Russian). Thanks Specs: i7-5820K - 4.4 Ghz OC, 64GB Ram, RTX 2070 Super, Rift S
Rudel_chw Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 If you just purchased the F-86, then I suggest purchasing instead at least one campaign for it .. the Yalu is the most recent. Both fighters are similar, but different at the same time (different navigation, radio and armaments), I enjoyed the MiG-15 a lot, but there will always be Sales .. it is better to concentrate on a single aircraft and learn it fully, fly all its training missions, single missions and Campaigns, every user made mission you can find, etc. Probably the thing I liked the most of the MiG-15 was moving on onto the MiG-19 and then further on to the MiG-21, to experience how fast the aircrafts evolved during the 50s and 60s .. the Sabre does not have that, as the jump from the F-86 to the F-5 is much larger. For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

Thanks for the heads up Wow - you actually experienced Mig-15 --> Mig-19 --> Mig-21 --- that would have been lots of fun 1 Specs: i7-5820K - 4.4 Ghz OC, 64GB Ram, RTX 2070 Super, Rift S
Art-J Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 It all depends on what you want to use these planes for. In practical terms both serve the same purpose in DCS - none whatsoever, without period-correct maps and assets available (some payware WWII ground assets being exception). If I'm not mistaken Mig has one payware campaign available ("Relic") plus some community made missions but that's about it. Both aircraft are feature complete on a similar level, but Sabre just has more features, being multi-task fighter-bomber. Mig was first and foremost interceptor and apart from guns, simple gyro gunsight and two hardpoints for small bombs/tanks it doesn't feature any other combat systems. Make no mistake, Mig is a great and fun plane just for buzzing around, but one has to be aware of limitations above. Yes, it does have English cockpit option included. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
TotenDead Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Sabre is a worse plane in terms of flight characteristics but as in the game we have a post-korean war F-86 (introduced like, 5 or more years after the mig-15bis) it has aim-9s while mig lacks a2a missiles.
kengou Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 IMO no, the MiG-15 isn't worth it if you have the F-86 and you like learning systems. The MiG has no systems to speak of, while the F-86 has a bombing computer and radar gunsight. The MiG is also, imo, much more difficult to fly and fight with, and it's a pain to hit anything with its guns. Jester986 Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 The relic campaign can be played as either the mig or the 86 by the way. Its essentially the same though whichever jet you take. But I do enjoy mig. I probably favor the 86 but eould still say the mig is worth buying if your interested it. Its the same level of quality as the 86 in terms of completion, systems, and art.
spacefox Posted October 28, 2020 Author Posted October 28, 2020 This sale is awesome. I did get both now. OMG just for sh#t and giggles - it is unreal to see them inside VR. OMG, what a surreal trip to see it in VR. So this is how a Migs looks from the inside and F-86 omg wow. I can see plane history in VR; even though I barely know the systems of these planes. Ejection is fun in VR!!! Specs: i7-5820K - 4.4 Ghz OC, 64GB Ram, RTX 2070 Super, Rift S

Eldur Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 Just do it. If you want something to give you a massive grin, then take the MiG-15 and fire that 37mm gun. You will love it.

That plane got so much spunk and grit and history, dude, that is a must have plane if you like the f-86. Mig15 in VR is just a beauty to behold.

I find flying the MiG more often frustrating than fun, it feels like I'm fighting the jet all the time. I own the MiG and only got to try the F-86 in the last free fly event but I found the Sabre much better, and regret my MiG purchase. grant977 Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Sabre! She can even tangle against the modern guys in guns 1v1....
flameoutme Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 I love the F-86, maybe it's because it was from a simpler time and the systems are easy to learn. Spend more time shooting and bombing and less time watching you tube tutorials. As for a campaign, I own Yula and Relic. I LOVE Relic, it's so well done. I won't spoil the concept but it is a brilliant story approach as a way to use the F-86 in modern times... and live to talk about it. I have the Mig 15 as well, and to be truthful, I'm having too much F-86 fun to be able to spend any time in the '15.Maybe someday. 1
