Probably the same lame issue us movie fans have to deal with in Thailand. Every film 'must' pass inspection. Everything. Ain't no way around it except being shady. So what ever these dinosaurs feel is improper in a film will be blurred out. If a character is holding a glass of whiskey -- the glass is blurred out with a caption stating drinking is bad for your health. Incredibly annoying but that's what we're getting for living in a culture that pretends to have values.

Anyway, yes, you can buy import copies or pirated copies to bypass this absurdity, but I've never seen Dreamworks, Miramax, Paramount, etc selling them directly to the consumers here because then they will be breaking the laws.

I am certain ED wants to recoup the money spent but they can't really go against the system now can they? That's what loopholes are for -- use your imagination!

if you want to sell something in another country then you have to follow their laws... its your product but on their shelves. and in this case it has to go through rating ESRB or whatever

My point is, they are not selling in another country, they could be selling the download ENGLISH version FOR russia, and We shouldnt have any problems purchasing that, as was my case with FC, anyway, there should be a good reason for them in not doing that, and I respect it, these will be the longest 90 days ever for me

That's a good way of getting blacklisted by the tax collectors. Don't you think that all those heads would've come up with this if it was really feasible? ;)

In regards to the comments about English localization delays, we should explain that the Russian and English versions were actually created largely in parallel. However, because the western release will be a single version with a number of localizations, most of the remaining task is to translate the recently finalized English texts into the other languages. Where it was available, like the Ka-50 flight manual, the translation process has been ongoing for months. However, some other content was only finalized recently, like the GUI manual and some of the mission texts (briefings, triggered radio calls, training missions, etc.) For the most part, the process left now is to finish translating what's left into English and hand it off to our other language translators.

This would be a good time to note the work of our editors and translators, who provided a great service with a tremendous effort. Having dipped my toes in the process, I can tell you that it is a full-time development effort all on its own and IMHO is worth the price of admission alone.

OMG the Russians get to fly their own Ka-50 before the westerners...HOW COULD YOU ;P

Congrats on getting this done finally!

I anxiously await the Engish version and the spiral bound manual.

Besides I'm sure a few bugs will rear their ugly heads as they always do and we are bound to get a slightly more polished version by the time it hits the store shelves here.

On the flip side this gives you a chance to schedule a vacation day for the release date.It alsogives the married guys 3 months time to dream up the excuses they're going to need for their wives about why they are up til 2AM every night...or prepare your divorce papers...either way :)

What legal issues are they talking about, its a russian game released in english, I dont think US or any country laws has any jurisdiction on games released in other countries in whatever the lenguage is...that doesnt make any sense, in fact if I choose to buy the download version for whatever reason, I will do it now, or in 90 days, that means I wont be buying de DVD version anyway, so no retailer sales gets hurt...I dont see the point, BTW I am from Argentina no such ratings exists here.

There is no problem with downloading the Russian version. But the other languages will not be available for download until it has been rated. And it doesn't matter where you live to change that. Some organizations may even rate it in a matter of 3 days, but it doesn't change the fact that it will take 90 days for others, so the clearance for release depends on them.

From what I understood when I had a lecture by the danish PEGI rep, the PEGI board (europe -Germany, that has their own system) will make an estimate of the product then all the member countries have a period in which they can make changes to it, short story is, harshest comments win, which is a bit sad here in Denmark where we have no laws on the subject, PEGI is just a service, I won't get canned if I sell something like GTA IV to a 5 year old kid. but in other countries PEGI is gospel, they have laws on the matter and any publisher selling anything without a grading could end up in serious trouble.

I think that ED would have been more pleased if no legislation existed but rules are rules. Which reminds me I have to attend a huge EA party tomorrow.... mmm Free Beer

The rating process is just one of the factors behind the gap in going "gold" to appearing on the shelves. It's not the only, nor probably the main factor. There are publishing and distribution realities which define this time frame and all of them are outside ED's control once ED submits the final code to the relevant third parties.

The Demo and the English manual will tie me over for 3 more months

Honestly I dont´t think they release the demo 3 months before the game. one month before the official release sounds real.

But how could be posible a demo when the game itself should be rated?

WOOHOO!!:bounce:

Great news, I can't wait for the English release. Untill then, at least I'll have time to study the manual once it's out, finish my controller set up for BS.

Oh, yea, and actually spend some time with my first newborn child due to arrive sometime in the next couple of weeks before I forget I have a family outside of my new KA-50 and my wingman.:drunk:

The above has been based loosely upon my own opinions. :pilotfly:

Question for ED:

Will the release of the PDF English manual coincide with the October 17 release?

Probably not - there are 600 pages to translate with correct military terms. However, it is the intention to release before the English version of DCS;Black Shark.

I said, "most," not all. Besides, you can take Jim's word over mine any day. :) However, the Ka-50 Flight Manual is largely finished in English, but other language localizations are still in progress. Besides the flight manual, some other content is still being finalized into English (mission content, etc.), although most of this work is also close. Edited by EvilBivol-1

If the English version is nearly done, I'm surprised there couldn't just just be a digital download version of that without all the other languages. It is the most widely spoken language in the world after all (I think)
