FAQ

Note: This FAQ is very much subject to change, and nothing should be construed as a "promise". This the current intention as of 27 September 2022.

Who is developing this map?

OnReTech was formed in October 2021 to develop terrains.

With more than seven years of experience creating terrains for flight simulators, including DCS, we have assembled a team of dedicated artists, engineers, researchers, and managers to create new and interesting battlefields for DCS World.

Why Sinai?

The Sinai map is of great historical importance that includes several past conflicts. The map will include different types of surfaces, large and small rivers, forests, fields, and mountains. Large and small cities, many military airfields, road and rail networks, ports will also be included. Despite large portions of desert, the map will also include greenery and forests along the Nile Delta and in Israel.

What does the Sinai roadmap include?

The project is divided into three phases in total.

Early access: first + second phase.

Map update: bonus phase with expansion of the detailed territory with 3-4 additional airfields (it's a secret for now; we're still considering which ones).

Final release: third phase

First phase

This will Include a 1500 x 1000 km area. Of this, a 700 by 700 km will be created in high detail and accuracy. Phase 1 will include many large and small cities like Cairo and include landmarks like the pyramids of Giza. Both natural and manmade features will be included.

Airfields of the first phase:

Egypt:

  • Al Ismailiyah Air Base

  • Faid

  • Kibrit Air Base

  • Abu Sultan

  • Abu Suwayr

  • As Salihiyah

  • Bir Jifjafa/Malez

  • Wadi al Jandali

Israel:

  • Nevatim Airbase

  • Hatzerim Airbase

  • Ramon Airbase

  • Uvda/Ovda

Second phase.

Additional unique objects and scenery for Israel and Egypt will be added.

Airfields of the second phase:

Egypt:

  • Al Mansurah

  • Az Zaqaziq

  • Inshas Airbase

  • Cairo International Airport

  • Cairo West (Almaza)

  • Bilbeis Air Base

Israel:

  • Sde Dov Airport

  • Palmachim Airbase

  • Hatzor

  • Tel Nof

  • Ben Gurion

Third phase.

Airfields of the third phase:

Egypt:

  • Quwaysina

  • Birma/Tanta Air Base

  • Al Rahmaniyah

  • Borg-el-Arab/Intl

  • Jiyanklis New

  • Gebel el Basur

  • Al Khatatbah

  • Kom Awshim

  • Beni Suef

  • Wadi Abu Rish

  • El Minya

  • Hurghada

  • Wadi Abu Shihat

When will this map be available?

We are planning an early access release in the first quarter of 2023. This is subject to change.

How much will this map cost?

Base price - $49.99 USD

Early access - $39.99 USD

What period is this map based on?

The map is being designed to represent the 2000s to the present.

When do you think that the next update will be ???

Maybe it's just me but those two statements are not really compatible.

TBH, I think that they are compatible, just not very intuitive. I can visit Rome and the Colosseum today and be reminded of its history and the many tragedies and fights that happened in the past there, and the historical importance it played.

Now, if you wanted to accurately re-enact some historical event concerning the Colosseum of antiquity, I agree that modern-day Rome wouldn't be as well suited as, say, a replica of Rome from AD 50. And I believe that is wat you mean - that it would have been preferable to have the SinaÏ map based on the 1970-1980 era if we wanted to re-enact the many important conflicts of that time. I agree.

IMHO, what ORT said was not contradictory; it merely is marketing to sugarcoat a drawback. Most maps in DCS are similar in that regard - usually because it's a) very difficult to accurately depict maps from an era where no or too little accurate data exists, and b) if the map was too era-specific that would lock out other uses (accurate helicopter missions in Normy 2? Unfortunately no). If there is going to be a Fulda-Gap (late 50s- early 80s) map, or a Vietnam Map (mid-50 to mid 70), the map creators face the same conundrum, especially since some of DCS most popular modules (Viper, Bug, Flanker) are 80s and younger (with cold warriors finally (!) becoming more popular, and younger aircraft like Typhoon emerging). So they compromise on an in-between map and use more easily accessible (low-cost) grid and model data.

Since I'm primarily interested in fun over historical accuracy, I don't mind too much, yet I do see the missed opportunities.

Don't worry, you wont have to wait long until it's relevant again.

Do we have any confirmation of this? Cause I would love to see some airfields added on Sinai before a Balkans release...

They need to fix their reputation and support to completion, their existing project.
Only then should they be allowed to move onto another map. Balkans or not.

I bought the Sinai map expecting it to be modeled on all of Israel and its surroundings, but it wasn't what I expected. The helipads are all the same, and there are a lot of problems with the map. I've now uninstalled the map and don't fly on it anymore. I only fly on Syria. I hope they don't release another map without finishing Sinai first. I won't buy anything from them until I see Sinai finished and properly fixed.

Yesterday they've announced an incomping update. Maybe look into the map after that and decide if it suits your needs.

According to the roadmap in the first post here, they have delivered all planned aerodromes and then threw in some more for free.

I am also not aware of any game-breaking issues with Sinai. Sure there are bugs and plenty of room for improvement, but you're making it look like the map barely works and the devs are some scammers, which is not the case.

At no point did I make it seem like that. I only said that a new map should not be released without first finishing the current one. I don't want to sow hatred.

In general, I also have the impression that the terrain mesh has improved, especially visible in the mountains, something like newer maps for DCS - like Iraq or Afghanistan. Nice update, and much more terrain east of Israel, thanks a lot!

Don't tell Ugra, but Sinai is about to be my goto desert.  Syria held that title for a long time, but the base layout in Sinai works better for what I want to do at this point and that ridiculous expanse of desert to the south west is just what I need.

So I'm flying the wrong direction to get to my target area.  Worked for Douglas Corrigan, so who am I to complain?
