It may finally be the card to make VR a solid experience, very interested in DCS performance numbers. Seeing that's it seems to be 50-65% faster than 3090 Ti on average I would expect similar results in DCS. Though the price is... Ooooof. Hopefully 4080 16Gb or 7900XT come in with good performance at a better price.

Have to agree with the end of Steve's conclusion there.
At over 2000€ (actually closer to 2600€) in Europe, and in this economy, it's a friggin rip-off!!!
Gaming/Simming is a nice hobby, but it's not worth paying that much for a single GPU.

The value isn't terrible actually (frame/dollar), however, very hard to justify for DCS alone, as it would be in my case... Simply to drive VR without reprojection.

Will see how 4080 and 7900XT perform.

Edit: but there are also quite a few folks that went out and bought a 3090ti, which wasn't cheap (some bought it at 2k) by any means. Not sure if it's because of availability or simply because they was the best you could get, but obviously there is a market for a $1600 GPU.

Honestly, if you're not looking to do VR, a 4090 will easily last you 3+ years of solid game play at 4k.

Sorry man, but I have to disagree, and so should everyone.

The MSRP is pure fantasy, and to see established reviewers basing "performance value" around it on their review's conclusions is a bit moronic (they've been around).
It begs the question if some aren't really paid reviews, or shills.

The contacts I made tell me that the RTX4090 will sell from 2000,00 to 2600,00 Euros in Europe (not less). That's nearly 2X what the RTX3090 went for, already inflated in price.
Quite frankly, while noone should tell anyone how to spend their own money, it's impossible not to look at someone spending this much on a single GPU for a gaming rig as if he/she was spending stupid money on Gucci flip-flops.

I wonder if there will be an initial rush to buy from the I must have top of the line everything crowd and then a slowdown in purchases in 5-6 months?

Hopefully AMD is close in performance while being perhaps a bit cheaper with better efficiency. We can hope?

I keep checking local 3090 Ti prices and not seeing a drop yet from the initial drop we had the last month or so.

It's a symptom of falling empires, the parties get wilder and expenses are of no concern.

For me personally, 4090, completely of no interest. I would betray my family if I would do so.

I agree, however the FE price on the Nvidia store right now is £1700, it's out of stock...as it no doubt will be when it goes on sale tomorrow 🙂

RTX4090, you might as well buy a test bench platform, and then a Sterillite plastic container to put over it, because that thing is huge, and any case big enough for it is likely to cost $500.

Der8auer review.

Of interest to me was the Wireview at 3:42 that shows draw etc.  May help with the cable as well?  But I think his best point was showing how there looked to be minimal performance loss with less power which shows that perhaps this card could have been smaller. That is at 18:00 mins.

Without a DCS World benchmark, the reviewers will never include it in their test suite. We have to wait for early adopters or base our conclusions on synthetic benchmarks. Firestrike is probably representative, and the Guru3D benchmarking does seem to indicate that RTX 4090 is a monster DirectX 11. Possibly a 70% improvement over RTX 3090ti. However there are some warning signs on other DirectX 11 titles as noted in this PC World review; that appears to be partially due to CPU bottlenecking, which is a very real concern in DCS in VR, even with the Ryzen 5800x3d.

I'm also interested in DCS benchmarks with the new RTX 4090. DCS is a special case and maybe the general test results cannot be transferred 1:1 to DCS!?
In VR a powerful graphics card can make a big difference.
So what does a 4090 change in FPS when flying DCS in VR? That is the question.

all the data, but nothing dcs...

that why i said we should start seeing reports from those in DCS after it is released. looking at benchmarks for a totally unrelated game or application is not going to be accurate. i wish i had a dollar for every post i have seen saying something like "every other game i have runs flawlessly, why not DCS?"

Well, a good point. I know quite a few people that spend insane money for Bags an flip-flops. Just because they want to.

And a 4090 is just that: nVidia has kicked something insane powerfull that you might just want. And if you want it, then you won't ask for the price. This will work, I'll promise you. It worked for Apple, it worked for Tesla and it will work for nVidia.

And yes, I feel that "wanna have - gimme" also in me... but at the moment, I can resist. But I can't promise that this resistance will last long.

I even can afford a Ford. 🤣

So I also could afford a 4090. But atm I just don't want to. It would make sense by going VR and 4k and a new CPU and a new Case... Maybe next year. But this thing is great. Haven't seen such speed gains by a generation step up for years.
