I doubt we'll see a B17, the time invested to make one. Will probably mean it will be hard to recoup the investment.

Maybe, but can you imanage if they did a multi crew airframe like that, I have a feeling it would be a must have for all most every DCS player.

I don't know how many would honestly be interested. Some yes. But it seems ww2 is already quite a small part of DCS. Mabye if the Lancaster mod is very popular.

But I don't think it will be ED that makes a 4 engine bomber, if it comes I'm guessing it will be a 3rd party.

Check out this thread from @Mr_sukebe:

I didn't quite follow/read the entire discussion, but I very much agreed with his OP.

All very personal, but I don't think I'd buy it if it were available. (Maybe just maybe... mainly depending on how good the AI crew members would be as I mainly fly SP)

True, it dose compeat with IL2 for ww2 flying. WT so so much like WG, wot, wows, & wowps to even compete. As they are arcade game's.

I would love to crew a B-17 what ever part that's open to crew. I know a lot of people that would get into DCS if they didn't have to fly, only shoot a gun. Well the AI can't be that bad.

Did you ever try operating a gunner seat in that other ww2 sim? If you only use the gunner seat, you're mostly just be doing sight seeing (with maybe, very occasionally, pulling the trigger and miss your target 😅).

Although there will sure be folks that would like that, personally I'd be bored quite fast. But sorry, I'm sure this has all been already discussed in @Mr_sukebe's thread 🙂

Being a gunner on a WWII bomber in a game, especially on long flights, would be seriously boring.

What’s funny is ED would have to do an authentic recreation of the Norden Bombsight. Except if it was done authentically it would be a boondoggle and wouldn’t be accurate whatsoever. Then people would make bug reports claiming it was broken 😆

Yes I have, it not about the action it about the fun time have with friends. Its hanging out with friends seeing how much trouble we can couse in a MP ship.

There is a game called Star Citizen the best MP ship is called the Hammerhead I know that I can jump on that and have a full HH in min's that all 8 slots filled. And the Org. i'm in we can field 3 or 4 of them at a time, mind you we spend more time BSing between fight than fighting. So the so called bordum is not so as it's filled with on comm's BSing.

I can indeed imagine that being fun with friends.

Perhaps my opinion is formed mainly due to the fact that I just don't have any real life friends that, like me, are geek enough to be into flightsimming 😉

Nor do I have enough time to commit to a proper online squadron.

I fully agree. Then again, when given the choice, most people would opt for a two-ship. I regularly fly with my friends. We love helicopters. Since the Huey has two crew-able door gunners, I've specifically written a Huey gunship mission (see here

) that can be flown with me or my friends operating the guns. Long story short: almost always, my gunners are AI, and so are my friends'. I suspect that for a B-17 it will be similar: you'll be hard-pressed to find crew.

The majority of my friends are ex-service and friends online.

I like to option to be solo flying or Multi crew. I do have tho's friends that can't fly to save there lives.

Would those friends be willing to shell out for a license of that module just so they can be passengers? I find that unlikely. Remember that in order to crew a MP plane, all crew members must own the full model.

Yeah, as they have for SC ship's and have me be the taxi driver as they do the shooting eather on board or FPS. The lack of a MP planes is what's stopping them getting into DCS

C101, Huey, MB-339, Tomcat, Mossie, Apache, Hind and probably some others I forget are all MP planes. The upcoming Phantom and Mudhen will be MP. There are plenty of MP craft in DCS already. But I doubt that they will find the experience enjoyable when they are used to be along for the ride for some FPS action - which simply isn't in DCS.

First of all, it sure isn't my intention to batter you or your wish. It's wished for very often, so you're definitely not alone on this one.

Like @cfragthough, I wonder if most of the people wishing this realize how little action a B-17 gunner sees. And even if they do, although probably very rewarding if you do, it's extremely difficult to actually hit anything and you have very limited ammo to try.

On the matter of your comparison with Star Citizen; I've never played it myself, so I really don't know, but I can imagine a Star Citizen gunner will have more to his disposal that just an iron sight and dumb bullets. But again, never played it, so I don't know.

You realize there are probably 1,000x the number of players in that game compared to DCS. Two B-17s would carry this game’s entire online WWII player count.

While I do understand the desire for more MP aircraft that can be crewed with more than 2 players we also have to take into consideration DCS's current popularity compared to the other games mentioned which are more widely known about and have a bigger player base. However that is something that can change in the future that I see starting out with MAC drawing in a bigger player base looking for a simpler and quick entertaining experience with friends. Then once that awareness grows with MAC existence that will open the crossover to DCS for those seeking more.

As for now  I think other smaller MP aircraft would be more feasible like the B-25. But even that would require a 3rd party that would do it as a passion project at this point in time.

Is that a confused B-25…?

seems to have US fuselage insignia with UK tail markings???

Anyway, I’m much more looking forward to the Project Lancaster mod
