Yes and it's a bit of a pain - personally I see the stable version as being more-or-less pointless

I agree with you there. Having two game versions is pointless.

And time and time and time again it's pointed out that it isn't... ED don't seem to think so either...

So when are you gonna learn your opinion on this is about as worthwhile as the contents of a soiled nappy?

I think we're being trolled.

The arrogance of the concept "everyone else shouldn't need any more options available to them than I need - so DCS should be changed to force that on them" beggars belief that it's anything other than trolling.

What’s the point of having a stable version that’s only being used about 20% of the time?

So, use open beta.

Problem solved.

If the majority of the players are using the open beta as a release version then it serves no purpose at all. Other than to just divide up the game online. Again that’s why you don’t see any other game doing this.

Exactly... And I would add the OVERWHELMING majority of the players are using the open beta as a release version then it serves no purpose at all.

It would be better if DCS used a closed beta vs an open one. A closed test could still involve a large enough number of select users to get sufficient feedback but wouldn’t disrupt the public game online.

You do realise that simply saying the same thing over and over and over again, doesn't make you any more right, yeah?

It’s funny that you seem to want to defend a status quo that doesn’t work. Unless you like playing an eternally bugged game. Right now if anyone wants to avidly participate in mp their only choice is to run a perpetual beta version 80% of the time. Again, this dilemma is solvable by using a closed beta like every other game does. It’s not an outlandish suggestion.

I would say, it works most of the time for most of the people. That’s not to say that there aren’t flaws - but nothing that keeps me from having fun most of the time.

And you do realize, that a closed beta exist, do you? Open and closed beta are not mutual exclusive but build upon each other. you won‘t catch a lot of errors without a LOT of people in the game.

The reason that most servers use the Beta is simply, that most people value earlier access to new stuff more than smooth sailing all the time. People are impatient and like new shiny things…. simple as this.

But DCS is not every other game, this is the key point.

you and the community at large finally had the pleasure of meeting this character.  The tunnel vision along with the disagreeing commentary in this thread (and in all prior ones, in VR for example) continuously warn not to engage in any further discussions due to the simple risk of going insane. 😄

First I appreciate you have an opinion, but you are plucking figures out of thin air.

The open beta is a public test version, we catch many issues here with user reports and feedback. The stable version as a result is less likely to have a blocking issues that could prevent game play and is more stable.

As soon as we are happy open beta is stable enough we will push it to the stable version.

thank you

Yeah but if everyone is using the open beta as their game, it’s not a “beta” it’s a de facto bugged release version.

DCS is indeed a game, like every other game is a game.

Sure the 20% number is a guess on my part. Maybe someone could provide a more accurate number. In my experience it seems like the stable version is the latest and greatest (hence used online) only about 20-25% of the time.

Not everyone uses open beta, some people do not want to have potential large issues creating a problem, they would rather use the stable version which has a longer patch cycle.

Open beta is here to stay, it is a public test version and if people choose to use it more that is fine, we understand that people want the latest fixes and features as soon as possible.

thank you

No it‘s not. Because it is clearly labeled as Beta. People preferring it over the release version is their free choice.

They do in multiplayer. That’s the problem. If anyone wants to participate in that they need run the OB so again it’s become your de facto release version whether you intended that or not.

That may be what it’s labeled but not in practice what it’s become.

Yes most of the MP community has chosen to use the open beta public test version, again that is fine.

But it will always be a public test version.

thanks

maybe…. If you insist. But still - by their choice.

When you happen to dislike the majority vote - you‘re plain out of luck, mate.

It looks like the real problem here is people having the right to choose between Open Beta and Stable when it shouldnt...
