Yellonet Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 A-10 won't have a new graphics engine, but an *updated* one :)Sweet, we get the best of both worlds, a more gpu demanding game while still keeping it as cpu dependent as before :smilewink: Joking of course. 1 i7-2600k@4GHz, 8GB, R9 280X 3GB, SSD, HOTAS WH, Pro Flight Combat Pedals, TIR5
Distiler Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 A-10 won't have a new graphics engine, but an *updated* one :) Does it mean faster? or just the same engine with added effects? What we need is true multicore support. AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
jctrnacty Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Join Panzertards server and I'll prove that I can make your GPU melt :D Due to the amount of units in the map some people are down to 10 fps, I'm averaging from 15-25 myself. Looks like the game engine still calculates / draws units which isnt visible to the player - units behind mountains, units being 40kms out etc. Looking away in a direciton where there's no units, fps raises back up to 40-50 fps easilly. Interesting ... I hope there's a bit optimization too look forward to in A-10 :) I agree, but then we will talk about bubble and f4 and that´s what ED doesn´t like :-))) [sigpic][/sigpic] MB MSI x570 Prestige Creation, RYzen 9 3900X, 32 Gb Ram 3333MHz, cooler Dark rock PRO 4, eVGA 1080Ti, 32 inch BenQ 32011pt, saitek X52Pro, HP Reverb, win 10 64bit
Nate--IRL-- Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 (edited) Does it mean faster? or just the same engine with added effects? What we need is true multicore support. Offloading the AI onto another core or cores would be a massive benefit in performance and the ability of the AI to become more eh.... intelligent IMHO. However it would probably require a new engine to be built from scratch to implement. Panzertard Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I agree, but then we will talk about bubble and f4 and that´s what ED doesn´t like :-))) I know, the bubble worked fine for F4 - but that doesn't mean it's gonna work here. But I wasnt trying to say that we need a bubble :) But there's something .. overall .. which makes the gameengine draw units too far out.. and/or hidden units (behind cover / hills / valleys) - which still affects performance. Don't know if it's LOD related .. or if the engine itself stops considering those objects ever. Of course it could be the whole stack/cycle of units - when it's huge (I've tested, I promise) - I see some serious performance degradations. So that makes me wonder - what can be done to optimize for a big playing-field ... Updated game-engine, great .. but it depends on the updated work of course. So I'm really looking forward to learn more about that in the future. :) The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning

Paco Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Is this the same Dusty I used to fly with on Falcon? If it is, I'm flying BS now and can't wait for the A-10. Paco Paco

Now that Panzer optimized it im averaging about 18, to give you an idea, this are my system specs; Phenom x4 2.4GHZ (had it overclocked to 2.9 but didnt notice much performance gain) Ati Radeon 4870 GPU 8GB RAM (yes i need it at times) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
leafer Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 then one of the comments you'll notice that pilots keep saying about the A10 is that it is a lot more satisfying to fly than their previous "pointy nose" jets. If they were downgraded to flying an ultralight, I'm positive these same pilots who adored the A-10, would have said the same thing about the flying go-cart. Every single one of them wants to hump their assigned bird while forcing himself not to steal a glance at men that get to climb into their F-22. Nothing new there. I'd say that is typical at its worst. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

FVMAD Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 I think it isn't DCS: A-10C, instead it's A-10 Desk Top Simulation (DTS) Or TBS, whatever... the point is - it's made by ED and part of it will be in DCS :)

I'd say that is typical at its worst. Not necessarily. Maybe "I prefer A-10 rather than fighter I used to fly" is a bit over the top but sometimes it is the case where after one gets rid of despise towards particular airframe, he could get caught by it and be surprised how enjoyable it may be. Think of it like attitude towards girls in playground vs later ;) Another aspect is that one may re-discover flying a machine with less computer augmented control system. Then there are most funny guys who despise A-10 and helicopters while they have never flown even an agro-plane and probably never will  F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
Steel Jaw Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Dear Santa. Please bring me the DCS A-10 for this Christmas. Thank you...love your work. jctrnacty Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Dear Santa! Please send more talented programmers, designers,3d modelers to ED so we can have that A-10 ASAP with multicore support, dynamic campaign and ultimate graphics. Thank you P.S.Please let them win a lot of money in lotery. :-) [sigpic][/sigpic] MB MSI x570 Prestige Creation, RYzen 9 3900X, 32 Gb Ram 3333MHz, cooler Dark rock PRO 4, eVGA 1080Ti, 32 inch BenQ 32011pt, saitek X52Pro, HP Reverb, win 10 64bit
Agg Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Please send more talented programmers, designers,3d modelers to ED so we can have that A-10 ASAP with multicore support, dynamic campaign and ultimate graphics. How big is the ED team anyway? Im guessing its quite small, but it would be interessting to know how small.

HansRoaming Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Another aspect is that one may re-discover flying a machine with less computer augmented control system. I seemed to pick up that this was it, less fly by wire, more demanding and exciting flying and they get to shoot off loads of ordnance. Anyway read the book Warthog and you see what I mean.
Steel Jaw Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Yeah read that years ago when the Janes A-10 was gonna come. Been waiting ever since for a real hardcore contender. Hoping DCS can pull it off. I am hoping this is not gonna be another lite weight LOMAC type jet!
