Frankly, they look like completely different models!

The first thing I did when testing the sim, was to check out the pyramids. Very disappointing.

I hate it when the do trailers and depict it as in-game footage and it looks nothing like the game.

Surely thats not the point, if you see something in a release video, you kind of expect it to be in the initial release.  As a previous visitor to the pyramids, it was one of the reasons I bought the map - the pyramids in the trailer look very impressive - I assumed reading the post that it was a scenery level of detail issue, but it doesn't appear to be judging by the distances involved.

Little bit disappointing! But not the end of the world, unless the rest is that poor too!!

I completely understand your point.. I wish items were as hi-res as the trailer showed; I learned quickly with DCS YT video teasers the details/resolution is always better than what we get/experience.

My point is that with such a complex system and the normal gremlins of a release I can see a “throttling” of resolution to help the initial release function with minimal bugs hence Early Release status and the EA discount on price to “compensate” us for lower “quality”. Just look towards the SA and even Normandy 2.0 release and resolution and item details are constantly improved.   I can only imagine the cascading “waterfall” of issues and bugs that ORT Team are dealing with behind the scenes this morning. I have a feeling that once the map phases are completed we will see a much better details.

While I think the map looks great and runs extremely well, I am curious about this too.

On mine I get :

DCS 2023-06-09 15-49-19.jpg

which looks pretty good to my eyes, but nothing like the trailer. I would rather see trailers show what the game actually looks like in use, not choosing a slo-mo shot at the perfect angle, at the perfect time of day, for a view that we will never see in the game. Even given those conditions, I don't see how this shot in the trailer could have been done.

Edit: While my shot is further away, the closer I get the worse it looks.

I wonder if you guys are having LOD issues

I've tried 3 times of day, circling at various distances, and no point does that pyramid render in nice large blocks like that trailer image. All I get is very thin slices per layer.

Are my settings wrong?

My settings are high, and I'm 50' away from the pyramid....

Care to share your full specs to go with these settings?

3080ti, 32GB DDR4, year-old i5?

I've not found anyone yet who can create a screenshot even remotely close to this image in the trailer....

Is your DCS installed on an HDD?

Maybe the pyramid 3d model is actually completely missing?

nullThe other pyramid has a 3d bit just for the top. Maybe the main pyramid is completely missing it's 3d model bit and we're just seeing the rough terrain shape that should be underneath?

image.png

I'm totally guessing now 🙂

It's not a a graphics settings issue or a HDD/SSD issue...it's obviously a different model. I’ve no idea why, nor am I going to judge, but it's pretty obvious. Perhaps the LODs weren't included in the release by accident? Who knows.

The pyramid in your screenshot has a little of the fine white limestone that originally covered the pyramids.  The limestone blocks you see beneath that area are what remains after centuries of pillaging and pilfering of the materials.

This is what it looks like in real life (with the exception of the weird issues being described here with the lower blocks)

yeah I know it's trying to look right. I was more just thinking whether it was a missing 3d model thing (i.e. the bad bits we're seeing are terrain not models)

But I think it's much more likely that there's a bug in the LODs or the models are just different.

I'm just trying to cover all grounds here. I don't think it's a wrong model...but the model appears to be missing altogether. The shape you guys are seeing is likely the terrain that is meant to be underneath the blocks of the pyramid

Which makes me wonder if the model isn't loading for whatever reason.

Situation is like this:
Yes, and the game has now changed the model of the pyramids, I will explain why.
Some beta testers started to experience fps drops to 0 when flying through the pyramids.

But this does not happen in our tests. We are solving this issue, as soon as we deal with this bug, we will return the models to their place, thanks for your patience

Not only is it a fantastic map, but you are earning a loyal - and hopefully patient - customer base with your community interaction. 👍

Hopefully other devs are taking notes.

Before solving the problem, in order to be honest with consumers, please add an option to the settings called "Pyramid Details level"
