Weather mod v17 for DCS

I had version 8 installed and it worked without issue. Tonight I downloaded and installed version 9 using OpenMod Manager. In game, I started to get video freezes that eventually led to a crash back to the desktop. Uninstalled version 9 and the problem went away. First time I've ever had a crash back to the desktop with DCS.  If there's anything I can provide to help troubleshoot the issue, please let me know.

Do you have it installed with OVGME? I would uninstall mods, run a repair on DCS, then re-install mods.

OVGME hasn't been updated in 8 years. I use Open Mod Manger instead: https://github.com/sedenion/OpenModMan

That said, I did the slow repair of DCS after uninstalling version 9. I will try installing it again the next time I use DCS and will report back.

I use OVGme with this mod and works as intended. It works despite it hasn´t been updated in years.

Re-installing version 9 after the rebuild seems to have fixed the issue.

Looks like this mod needs an update as it wipes out the new "Light Rain" presets ED added in DCS 2.9.6.

7/11/2024 - Updated to version 10

- Updated for DCS 2.9.6 compatibility.
- Cirrus cloud textures updated

I created these new cirrus cloud textures from photos of real cirrus clouds. I think they look much better then my previous attempts to make them by hand.

With what setting do I get these? Cirrostratus?

They are just replacement textures for the default cirrus. No setting required. They will change with every mission reload.

Currently the game only uses 4 cirrus textures. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way I can add more.

Thank you all for the positive comments. I'd really like to create more high quality cirrus cloud textures. It'd be nice if ED could enable to use of more than four cirrus cloud textures. I haven't figured out if there's a way I can do it with modding the cirrus.fx shader yet.

Is there any way to have a full overcast layer of clouds at 500 feet AGL for ILS approaches? Is it possible?

Very nice mod. Thank you.

EDIT: I saw a few post above that there is a limitation for the ceiling, but what about the full overcast option?, (at least at 1500')

Should be doable. 

Open the clouds.lua and scroll to one of the presets to edit. In there you have various settings to play around with like min and max altitude as well as coverage and other things. Those would be the main ones I would try to change, but if it doesn't do the trick, play around with the other parameters aswell. I known it's possible because I did it once some time ago.

First of all thanks for your mod! I have a suggestion for future releases..Why don't you put something in your pics in the mission editor in order to distinguish your mod from vanilla?
For example (and personal use) i used photoshop and placed a yellowish frame on your mod.
