Hi, we have already mentioned the ocean is outside the planned area for DCS: Afghanistan, it is already a huge terrain and we have to consider performance. thank you 2 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? How a nearly flat terrain with no objects is gonna impact performance? IIRC the physical size is not the limiting factor for DCS maps. It's the number of assets. 4 Dima | My DCS uploads
zerO_crash Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 Fantastic! Definitely one of the most important, and history-relevant regions on earth! Couldn't be better! Units fitting the theatre, are important too, though. We will need some updates to camouflage and unit relevant for the region. That goes for any map, really. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
flyingscotsman Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 (edited) Just tried to buy the full version of the map and there was a long delay, about 15 mins, waiting for payment, having logged into paypal, then it asked again for paypal and now stuck on order. Anyone else had a problem? I'll probably let it get past midnight and start again tomorrow, no doubt both sides are very busy at the moment. Looking forward to it. zerO_crash Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 It happens sometimes. Go to main DCS website -> Profile -> Personal Section -> Scroll down to the "My orders"-section. There, you should find your current order labeled as "processing/waiting for payment". Simply click on it, and re-run the process of payment. Will work 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
71st_Mastiff Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 I pre-purchased the full map, does this mean I still get the high details? when the rest of the map comes along? or do I have to pay separate for the higher details on the 25% per-release maps being done? You get high details for the full thing, when those portions get released. 1 492nd Squadron CO (F-15E): JTF-111 - Discord Link
TED Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 (edited) Wow...this thread went south quickly . I can't understand the griping. It's pretty simple to just not buy it if it's not your taste! Personally, I'm really looking forward to this and will preorder the whole map in EA. Its got a huge amount of potential for interesting missions and campaigns, even in the ea first phase. The tease images look very nice and another step up in dcs scenery quality. I actually like the idea to release in phases. The other option was for us all to wait another 6-9 months to get anything. This way we get to enjoy the start of a new scenery, which is still a large area in itself and will keep us busy, then in a few months another nice upgrade with the rest. This is why it's called an "early access" after all! I think this is a really positive development for ED and dcs and I am certainly extremely pleased with this announcement. You wouldn't know it from this thread, but I expect vast the majority are also really hyped for this, and its going to be an extremely popular map. Good job ED for bringing us yet another fantastic terrain to play with. Lets keep some perspective and not lose sight of how much has actually happened in development in just the last 2 years. From new aircraft, to multi-threading, improved graphics, various updates to the core aircraft and many performance tweaks and improvements. Things are getting g better and improving literally every month. Yes, there will always be more to do and wish for, but if we juat take a step back and look at how far things have come, it's pretty amazing. And let's not forget there's many more exciting things under development in the pipeline not too far away. My only issue is going to be the wife complaining about me being MIA in the mancave! Logan54 Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 ED said before that creating MiG-25 is bad idea because small maps for too fast aircraft, interesting what they think about it now?)
zerO_crash Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 MiG-25 needs space. While Afghanistan is big, it would still be relarively tight. The global map will alleviate this issue, however. Still, that's not the main problem anymore. With Russian laws enacted after the invasion of Ukraine, things have gotten really tight with what's possible or not. That is even more true, when one knows how oblique these laws are. They are not specific, thus, you never really know if you are challenging them or not. This is meant as a mechanism to prosecute on a whim. It is sheer luck that we have even something as old as Mi-24P. Notice, that we are getting an export MiG-29A, not a domestic variant. While documents exist (I have quite a few), many places have already had them deleted online. I really see no way of having something especially as complex as MiG-25 modelled. (Remember that MiG-25, depending on the variant, has an expanded off-board system functionality. Whether it is the spy-variant (we'd need knowledge and access to tools used for analysis of picture taken - you won't find any information on this online, I assure.) or a combat one (which still demands knowledge on datalink (Lazour/BAN-75) and how they worked together). This is information that is scarce, and often insufficient/incomplete. I cannot see it being doable in today's geopolitical situation. 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

None ED or 3rd Party has claimed a Mig-25, the map size has no a issue (a F-14 has a interceptor), and more will coming. AvgeekJoe Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 (edited) I'm sure with the announcement above of no water for supercarriers we could just base the naval aviation aircraft at one airbase and just forgo Case III landings (I hate those). Understand why computer performance has to top 100% realism. Edited March 30, 2024 by AvgeekJoe
