Its not really that expensive if you think about other things in life. An aircraft that will give you hundreds of hours of fun an entertainment, cost the same than a nice dinner, a 2 hour concert or just one tank of gas hehe. And if you buy them on sales, is even better. I just wish they were more complete at launch and didn´t take them years to be finished.

Very valid points and ones I use frequently to persuade my wife that my hobby is justified.

To be honest, DCS is as expensive as you want it to be.

If you want to have every module, great home cockpit with top of the line peripherals, then yeah it's going to hurt your wallet.

On the other hand, ask yourself do you actually need all those modules? There's only 24h in a day and all of the modules actually take some time to get good at them and be comfortable operating them so you are likely looking at spending at least a month with it before you can "take off and land with your eyes closed" (note the quotes here), and that's not taking into the account of using all of the sensors and weapons and understanding the reasoning why something should be used in a certain way....

You can see here that having only single module with even the cheapest controllers can give you many hours of fun and engagement. Get something that you have actual personal interest in (please, don't ask what you should buy as then everyone will give you their own reasons why) and then go have fun with it. Even better if you find a like minded group with which you can share the experience. That way you can spend years flying only one module and getting reeeeally good at it. After all that, looking at the price tag and looking how many hours you have spent on it, it's not that bad.

The most expensive part of DCS isn't even the modules. I probably spent twice or triple as much on DCS-related Hardware. Mostly input devices but also hardware upgrades that are mostly driven by DCS.

I consider it a hobby - and it isn't nearly as expensive as other hobbies I had (motor sports.... argh 😆)...

Still, on average I paid perhaps 100 bucks a month on DCS - including hardware. Others spend the same amount on smokes easily.

Very true if you put it that way , I've been playing this since blackshark .

Gigabyte - X570UD ~ Ryzen - 5600X @ 4.7 - RTX-4070 SUPER -  XPG 32:GB @ 3200 - VKB - Gunfighter 4 - STECs - Throttle - Crosswinds Rudders - Trackir 5 .

I'm a dot . Pico Nero 3 link VR . @ 4k

Win 11 Pro 64Bit . No longer Supporting DCS .

PC + peripherals + modules, divided by hours played = $3 an hour, give or take.

Not bad at all. :smoke:

Some of the planes, but all of the maps!

You couldn't even rent and fuel up a puddle jumper for the price of a module.  Way cheaper than buying an aircraft, lessons, and keeping currency, and your never getting to pull a trigger at any price unless your signed a multi year commission.  From that perspective it's dirt cheap, and you can fly and test any thing you want.

But Jets out of EA, with no discount? 80 Dollar for years.

I see Phantom went straight to 80 in spite of EA tag.

Yeah,so Heatblur decided they wont apply an EA-Discount.
Folks had their chance in pre-order.

Still don't see DCS overall becoming more expensive.

agreed. i personally pre-purchased Phantom Dec 23, 2023 for $59. so everyone had at least 5 months to get $20 off.
