Dangerzone Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 A friend send me through a little while ago. (I'm guessing it's on facebook, which I don't use). Is this legit? Can we get some screenshots and info here on the forum too please. I'm excited about it all, but TBH -the plane directors are probably the most exciting announcement of the lot. I am hoping though for the larger missions where we have ATC, etc - that the Airboss can be completely taken over by human players. This is exciting news! 3
Czar66 Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Oh man, this is good news. Thank you for sharing it here. Directors are the highlight for me too. Sounds like very close to release by the posts wordings, but you never know. Hopeful for the next patch 1

The fact that it's only been released on facebook - I would have thought if it was close to release, we'd either see it released on more official channels (aka, this forum, or a youtube video from Wags). But, I've already been surprised in the last month by a 2 weeks announcement, and then a module that was dropped in 2 weeks, so never say never. I just love Navy ops. There's something about returning back from a mission or flight, and it's not over. There's still the challenge of landing it on a carrier, getting a grading. Same with taking off. It's not just taxiing - but there's a lot more aversiveness on an aircraft carrier. Maybe, just maybe if ATC was upgraded with AI or similar land bases might become more immersive too, but I still doubt they'll ever give me the thrill of Navy ops. Fly navy! 2

Dangerzone Posted June 14, 2024 Author Posted June 14, 2024 Didn’t know ED was on X. I might have to start using X then. Thanks for letting me know. 1
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted June 14, 2024 ED Team Posted June 14, 2024 Thank you for your continued interest in the supercarrier, we are working towards the remaining features which bring a completely new aspect to DCS we will be sharing more news today in the newsletter about progress. thank you 5 3 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Admiral189 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Hey BIGNEWY. I have a question regarding the steering and control features of the Supercarrier. Just curious will we be able to reverse the direction of the ship as well or will it just be steering the ship forward, port, and starboard? I assume we will have to enter the Carrier the same way we do in Combined Arms and then control the ship or will it be an external way of controlling the ship? I'm really looking forward to this feature. Many Thanks. 1
tspencer227 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Now I'm really curious about friction/ physics with the deck surface and tire traction- because that's could be a potentially huge factor for all the of the new would-be Conning Officers who will be steering all these ships. On a totally related note, is there any discussion or information about getting aircraft tie-down chains, either visual or virtual? 2
Admiral189 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 tspencer227 that's a good point. Based on experience the Aircraft on deck may slide when the ship comes about. I've only seen it when an AI Helicopter lands though. If that's the case they need to be secured for sea but I assume they won't slide. I'm more interested in this feature because I create AI Ship models for DCS. This will be a great new feature.

Dangerzone Posted June 24, 2024 Author Posted June 24, 2024 Looks like the plane directors (which I'm most excited about) won't be available for multiplayer for a while? There's a couple of questions above too which would be great to see answered.

I could be wrong, but the way I've read the posts regarding this is that they have them done for SP and are working on them for MP, but they won't be available until MP is finished. I think we're only getting the carrier controls in the next updated. I hope I'm wrong on that, but that's the way I read it.
Raisuli Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 So...more of a limited availability than a RCOH? As long as everything still works when it leaves the shipyard I'm not too needy. It never does, but after a few shakedown cruises it generally all gets hammered into shape.

I think I heard that the other day somewhere too (maybe on a HIP game video)? Is this for both Airboss and directors, or just plane directors? Plane directors was what I was interested in, so I guess there's nothing really new coming for this next update for MP besides a 'sneak peak' of what it might look like if I switch to single player, but as far as multiplayer servers go (at least for the deck crew... business as normal. It makes sense - get the directors right in SP first, and then move to MP because MP will be more complicated - thus it will hopefully have less impact on MP servers if they get it wrong first up. (Not many would be happy if directors were getting it wrong and planes were on top of each other on the aircraft deck). I do hope though, that it'll be a high priority to get it across onto MP shortly after SP is released, because for MP operations, this will certainly add to the immersion.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted June 25, 2024 ED Team Posted June 25, 2024 Plane directors need a little more time, but for the next patch airboss is planned. We hope to get a video out soon with an example of the features. thank you 3 1 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Hopefully it'll be out in the patch after (fingers crossed). Thanks for the update. I can only imagine the coding required, especially to support 'pilots' who don't do what they're told. I wonder if that's handled, or whether the plane directors will be programmed just throw their hands up in the air and walk off to the side and say "You figure it out if you're not going to follow directions".
