For sure! Decided to download it for a trial this week. Well I can honestly say that this map will be the first which I wont miss ever! In my opinion is the most dull and boring map (never tried Normandy/Channel).

PG, Caucus, Normandy (all of them), NTTR: all abandonware.  ED specifically said that NTTR will never get an update.

Why be so dramatic? They are not abandonware. 

Persian Gulf, Caucasus, NTTR are all feature complete but still receive tweaks and bug fixes.

I would say all three could use a serious update:

NTTR  - could more like Afghanistan

Caucasus - could be more like CWG

Persian Gulf - could be more like Syria

Also, I'm sure most players would also pay a modest fee for such upgrades if they were actually agreed to by ED.

You have to remember terrain tools are always updating and older terrains will have used earlier versions of the tools. Its not always a simple matter for updating to newer ones, there will be a lot of work involved.

And while we would like to revisit older projects, as we have in the past the main issue is having free dev time for it, currently the teams are all very busy, hopefully in the future we can.

That's not a reasonable comment. The PG map got an excellent night lighting update a while ago and it's a good looking map. I think the night lighting was kind of a tech demo and it looks excellent. The NTTR is old but there are a surprising amount of people, like myself, who really enjoy it. I bought the NTTR map in 2018. Hard to call it abandonware when it's worked properly and enjoyably, in my case, for seven-years. 

 

As for the Caucasus, I think it should stay on the "simple side". It's a good free map that everyone can run well. We have lots of big new maps that are heavy on the specs, so having the Caucasus as a spec-friendly map for new players or those with older PCs is a good idea.

Caucasus is still one of my favourites, feels like coming home I've flown it to much, don't need a map to know where I am

Yes. That's why I propose a modest fee. For instance, ED could still provide the free (unedited) Caucasus map for entry level users, but then offer an "upgrade" (modernized map) for like $19.99. The other maps could be handled like they did with the F-5E (granted, ED got a little heat for that). Anyway, all of this would be feasible and (mostly) welcomed by the community.

There are possibilities for sure for the future. 

The problem is free dev time, we just do not have it currently, all teams are very busy.

Please tell us how is that related to PG as there are so many missing airports and I already asked about a specific one farther south on the map! No name, no ATC is like the development stopped mid work and no update came along.

We also remember that there are tools to provide a map of entire world for the size lesser than than 100GB but will never see it here, aren't we?

The map is feature complete, meaning it has met all the planned additions and features. Anything new would be new; it doesn't mean it's "missing" anything based on the original plan.

I think many of us at ED would like this as well, its just a matter of dev time and a balance of new maps vs updating old ones. But its on our minds.

I would pause the new dev and update what you have to adequacy, then turn new dev back on. ED may have over committed with f-35, Iraq, Fulcrum and others.

Terrain teams do not work on modules.

The insinuation that the maps are inadequate isn't a reasonable thing to say. As mentioned, I bought the NTTR map seven-years ago and have enjoyed it very much. I still use it often. Now while it might look dated in comparison to a map that came out this year, you have to remember it's also seven or eight-years old. And it still works as well as the day I bought it.

 

Not everything is all new and shiny, though we might want it to be, but that doesn't mean it's inadequate. It just means it's an older map. I have all the maps and I fly them all and enjoy them all, even if they aren't all of equal "fanciness". And there is such variety and quality in the maps now that no one should feel left out given the offerings.

 

I'd love to see the NTTR map get some serious love, and I'd be happy to pay for it. But in no way do I see the map as inadequate.
