Rolds Posted Monday at 02:32 AM Posted Monday at 02:32 AM I have a new theory I want to run by people, does the essex need to be the lead ship of any group (in other words, unit 1 of X in any group you place it in?) I just ran a quick experiment where I couldn't trap if essex was other than ship 1, but could when I re-ordered the ships so it was. I no longer think I have a map dependent issue, I have been able to trap on Marianas today.

Did 12 traps on the Essex though only 10 were needed IRL (and only 8 in one day). When I edited the mission, I forgot to adjust the wind direction, so there's a constant 10mph cross-wind. I figured it's an opportunity to practice crabbing even if it's not realistic. https://youtu.be/PQEMpcFYGaM Here's the night time quals video:

Mistermann Posted Tuesday at 02:29 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:29 PM @-Rudel- Can we get an official statement on the conjecture above please. You've now got a wildfire of YouTube videos, online posts here and "elsewhere" claiming you can't trap when the carrier is headed in the direction outlined in the linked post above. This would greatly assist the community in differentiating fact from fiction. I have tried various trim settings but nothing to do. I think that the developers, perhaps rightly, have given much emphasis to the fact of the engine copy, making the airplane difficult to manage at low speed with the nose dancing from all sides right left up and down. I go very slowly to adjust the throttle but nothing is a continuous pitch and roll as well as, I repeat, going sideways with respect to the glide path. Certainly there is the system of the English pilots of turning very tightly to land but even so it is very difficult to succeed, without considering that perhaps the plane from the return from a mission could have suffered damage to the flight controls and then certain sudden maneuvers are not allowed.... 1 cpu:I7-6700k Z170 16GB Ram DDR4 Gtx 1080 8Gb DDR5 11GBs SSD 500 Gb 2 HDD 1Tb Evga supernova G2 850w Case Bequiet series 800 Silent base Win 10 pro 64 bit My wishlist: F-35/B-17G/F4U Corsair/Yak-3/P-40B Tomahawk
ivo Posted Tuesday at 04:38 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:38 PM However I would like to point out that I find this module really beautiful and engaging, it is the first module that allows operations from aircraft carriers of the Second World War. The positive points are in my opinion: ease of take-off both from a land runway and from a carrier, ease in starting the engine, both the 3D model and the cockpit are beautiful. The use of the FAB bomb is interesting. On the contrary I find the cockpit color too dark to improve, which is also too old, perhaps the engine sound, and obviously in my opinion, the way it behaves in flight at low speeds (about 90 knots) which in turn precludes the less experienced from being able to land on the aircraft carrier, for the rest it is much better even in this beta phase than other modules see P-51 or Spitfire at the time when released. 1 cpu:I7-6700k Z170 16GB Ram DDR4 Gtx 1080 8Gb DDR5 11GBs SSD 500 Gb 2 HDD 1Tb Evga supernova G2 850w Case Bequiet series 800 Silent base Win 10 pro 64 bit My wishlist: F-35/B-17G/F4U Corsair/Yak-3/P-40B Tomahawk
Doughguy Posted Wednesday at 03:57 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:57 AM Make sure the carrier is going north, wind has to be blowing south. The training mission has the wind blowing south at 100m/s. Also, the carrier doesnt move in the training session, if you set yours to move with full speed your approach will have to be faster and final turn even earlier. As long as you stick to the altitudes, speeds and procedures youll get there. Just be light on the throttle, its pretty delayed and torque is mad. 1 https://sr-f.de/

Thanks for the advice, my big problem is the rudder management. It has too abrupt movements. cpu:I7-6700k Z170 16GB Ram DDR4 Gtx 1080 8Gb DDR5 11GBs SSD 500 Gb 2 HDD 1Tb Evga supernova G2 850w Case Bequiet series 800 Silent base Win 10 pro 64 bit My wishlist: F-35/B-17G/F4U Corsair/Yak-3/P-40B Tomahawk

_Hoss Posted Wednesday at 04:53 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:53 PM A guy in my group has found that if the carrier is on a certain heading the tail hook or wires don't work as advertised ... these are his findings.... For you folks that are building missions for the Corsair to fly off the Essex class boat, Please make sure that the boat is not on a course of 181 through 270. For some odd reason, the arresting gear will not engage the tailhook as long as the boat is on a course in that quadrant - between 181 and 270. Any other course is fine, from 271 around to 180. Not yet sure if this is map dependant. I will do some tests. So check your mission files and see if that may be a problem. 1 Sempre Fortis
gulredrel Posted Wednesday at 07:35 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:35 PM First attempt was without hook. After that, three successful carrier traps in a row. Almost too easy? Or am I that good?! Hits and bda I guess is a bug!? Touchdowns were hard, but not that hard to damage the carrier deck. What are the numbers in parentheses in details column (27, 20, 18, 16)?
Devil 505 Posted yesterday at 03:50 AM Posted yesterday at 03:50 AM If you really want to conquer the curves question, I highly recommend watching the following video posted today. I tried the curves Tactical Pascal @Tacticalpascale suggested and it made all the difference in the Corsair. Take it from a guy who has never touched the curves in DCS once on another module. What he said in this video makes a lot of sense. Even the elusive Nick Grey replied to his video and said he was spot on. I will be posting a video shortly and you can see the difference in my flying already. Much appreciated to TP for putting this out there and providing a good frame of reference for the curves and why they are needed. 2
