Feuerfalke Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Great news, but I am also not a fan of downloaded software. I would like to know is this going to be the same as DCS as in so many installs before license runs out? From page1: Q: What copy protection will be used? A: StarForce online activation (only) will be used. Based on the success of DCS: Black Shark protection, we feel this provides the best compromise of user-friendliness and protection of property. Unlike the reported hardware problems reported with an earlier version of StarForce applied to the original Flaming Cliffs, no such issues have been reported with the current online activation method that does not install any drivers to the user’s computer. I guess it will work exactly the same way it does for DCS:BS. dooom Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Cheers to the ongoing rennaissance in Flight sims!!!!! ED is the best thing to come along for our enthusiast community in a long long long time. So many great products now/soon available to us.. 3 new hotas on the way (Logitech/Saitek/CH/Thrustmaster), peripherals (Touchbuddy/triplehead/TiR), software (Rof/SoW/DCS) and now this.... I am in heaven... and coincidentally, woefully more impoverished... :) ASUS Tuf Gaming Pro x570 / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8 / XFX Radeon 6900 XT / 64 GB DDR4 3200 "This was not in the Manual I did not read", cried the Noob" - BMBM, WWIIOL

DanKurt Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Fuerfalke, I am sure you are right. Pitty, as I always need to install it on two PC (home and my works lappy). Still this is better than expected news as far as the compatibility between BS and LOMAC. I hope the excellent SimMod A10, Walmis F15 and the 3go SU-27 can all be implemented as they are still streets ahead of even the DCS skins.
Vekkinho Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 When a friend told me about this topic... I almost started to cry out of happiness:) You're welcome Renato! PS - nothing to add, apart for one more vote for hard copy DVD for installation/activation :) Yes, I'd give 100€ for a hard copy of FC2.0! If ED ever decides to go with hard copy FC2.0, even in a limited edition way - you know my home address! There's nothing like rushing home from a shop or post office, peeling the protective cover from a CD/DVD, opening the case and taking the sniff of chemicals from a printed leaflet! :smilewink: It also looks good on my shelf when not in use! Pilotasso Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 So many great products now/soon available to us.. 3 new hotas on the way (Logitech/Saitek/CH/Thrustmaster Thats 4, can you count? LOL :D .
CyBerkut Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Thats 4, can you count? LOL :D I saw that too, but left it alone. :music_whistling: In fairness to dooom, CH hasn't indicated that a consumer version will be along soon... and don't they usually split their controllers up into separate items (instead of selling a HOTAS set)? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Xjikz Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 First I though they had made a mistake cause we're not April 1st... so can this be TRUE ???? (I really wonder how can BS can work with FC2... but if they say it will... then I say ok) Proud to be a [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] :joystick::pilotfly::book:
MiGgressor Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Wow, I'm blown away! The amount of effort put into this looks amazing at first glance, I can't wait to see it for myself. The new Su25 looks sweet, I was wondering if you're updating other flyables' 3D models as well (IIRC there were screens of new MiG29 and Su33 models by ED floating around, will those be implemented?). Also, will graphical issues from the past - such as the infamous 'full shadows bug' with nVidia cards - be finally fixed? Since it looks like FC 2.0 will become the new 'Lock-On standard', a stand-alone version makes sense. I've never, ever had problems with FC and Starforce, my CD still works after all these years so I wouldn't mind if ED decided to release a hard copy DVD version with a one-install click. I would pay for the whole package even though it would mean discarding my previous investments (LOMAC and FC) for the sake of stability, compatibility and easy installation.
Vault Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 What a great result. Good job ED. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

joey45 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Now, will the trainning tracks be updated??? Will it be made [more] 3rd party mod friendly and will there be a dedicated server.. and why hasn't GA done that video for the A10c yet ;).. Find out next year in the growing adventures of Eagle Dynamics... Will there be anymore info released on this or is that it??? RedTiger Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I re-read the feature list: Runs under DirectX 9C Yay! Full shadows will work! This should mean better performance on modern GPUs, right? Improved Mission Editor with trigger system There's nothing I like better than crafting a good mission. Now they'll actually be replayable! Numerous new, highly detailed ground units including infantry Yay! Fun with rockets! :devil_2: Improved flight performance for player-controlled aircraft Not sure what this means, but I'm hoping it means either less or entirely no scripted high-alpha behavior. Improved *anything* is fine by me though! :D New, more realistic G-tolerance modeling No more Mr. Pencil Neck! More realistic ranges, seeker guidance and fuzes for air-to-air missiles No comment needed here, this probably the most complained about thing. More realistic electronic countermeasure operation and performance I have high hopes for this one. Anything more realistic than the on/off scrambled radar scope with guaranteed HOJ thing we have now would be an improvement! :) Can't wait! :bounce:

mjolner Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Excellent!! High res terrain and a new vanilla frogfoot model. Time to freshen up my mud movin. Thanks ED. This in my opinion is above and beyond, some say never look back but FC is a truly fine piece of programming and now will only be better. Bravo, much clapping.
ED Team Wags Posted November 18, 2009 Author ED Team Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) Dear all, Myself and the team are very happy to hear such a positive reception to the new product (nice to finally be able to announce it!). We are reading all the questions and concerns, and I will be posting in update to the FAQ in a week or so to address these. However, I can tell you now that we plan a disc version of a complete FC 2.0 install (no 1.12 needed) that will use online activation (we will not use a disc check again). This would likely be released in the Spring of 2010. A base copy of Lock On would still be needed. Kaptein_Damli Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Great news ED! Thanx a lot! :) I bought a second copy of Lock On "Gold Edition" which is still wrapped in plastic just for backup! I see the backup is becoming more and more important after this patch will be out! I hope ED would "resell" the gold edition as I had a hard time buying a second "backup"-copy. This will open up more users to Lock On and maybe BS. I also have a question: I have BS, but I have bad fps (average 23-25) and for me, that´s unplayable...I have a dual core AMD 64 2.7GHZ but that´s too weak for BS. How demanding will Lock On 2.0 be? I run Lock On with fps around 50. That´s without heatglow, medium water, low visibility. Lock On still is powerhungry! Will Lock On 2.0 demands as much as BS or something in between?
