Everyone I know says it's hot garbage. I have a friend that couldn't wait til it came out. He installed and uninstalled it within an hour. He waited months for it to only be disappointed.

Flight can be fun if you stop and think it's an arcade game. In NO way is this a sim, and on that respect it's utter crap.

Of course it is not a flight simulator anymore. Thats why they deleted Simulator in the name.

I'd be curious to see the numbers and if it was worth it for them to ditch the "simulator" to attract the casual flyer. I can imagine if someone wants to fly arcade they'll want some guns and action to go with it, but I didn't do the market research or take any financial risk so it's easy for me to say.

It would cost more in development, but an already established sim demographic would have been lying in wait.

Is tracker IR still not compatible?

I really only played with it for an hour or so myself but, to be honest, if TIR had worked I might have continued to mess with it once in a while.

On the other side of the coin, I know people who like Flight better than previous titles in the series and thing it's what was needed. These people are not hardcore simmers, so maybe it does have its place in the market.

I think most of the flight sim community would've been extremely happy with a re-release of FSX with full multicore support and code that was much more refined!

i know people who like uwe boll movies, and the fact that he keeps making them obviously means there's a market for it, that doesn't mean it's not complete horse dun.

If you're objective is to win a popularity contest, then sure. But meh at that.

I can see the market for a product like Microsoft Flight. (I did end up trying it for half an hour once.) As long as we get over the fact that it isn't a successor to FSX it's actually pretty good at what it sets out to do. It's not for me, sure, but so what? Quake isn't crap just because it isn't ARMA... It just targets a different market.

That's the thing - it's not a "bad sim" since it didn't really set out to be a "sim" in the first place; not in the sense that we here define the word "sim".

Very nice!

Does this hack work only with freetrack?

1. TrackIR workaround using TrackIRMouse.exe and GlovePIE - works ok as a temp solution, although requires a good bit of re-centering often for me, hopefully they add official TIR support ASAP:

Thanks cichlidfan,

I know this workaround with GlovePIE...

But look again at the vid

...much better than the GlovePIE soulution.

So I think it's a hack to implement a "true" head-tracker interface- ...and take also into account that the developer of Freetrack had posted it.

Seems I have to get a PS3 Eye-Cam asap...

good riddance. More pie to DCS share of the market. MS, lay off forever, you arcade back-stabbing company.:thumbup:

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

That model was very limited...IMHO, it doesn't surprise me. What DID surprise me is they thought this would be profitable. If anything playing MS Flight for free would tickle the fancy and any smart consumer would go out and buy FSX for $9. You get the whole world and a lot more content than even possible in MS Flight.

You either like flying or don't, but if there's nothing to learn, there is no progression and interest levels will drop fast.

What other content did they ever release for it?

Posted

Yes, I didn't mind it myself, thought it might have eventually expanded. What a waste of investment by them. I feel so sorry for the devs who most likely were following a corporate plan, unable to change. I bet a few were lurking in the forums, wishing they could change things.

Now I only have DCS and xplane to love. Please DCS, announce some MORE sceneries like Alaska, Australia, somewhere different, you'll do VERY WELL INDEED! Your tech is so good, so mature, it just needs to expand a bit. I know people who like the look of DCS but are put off by the combat look. Time to tweak me thinks! Happy to discuss further. Interesting times.

Heh. If they released DCS: Entire World, they'd clean up! I imagine developing that would cost a LOT of money, though.

Im waiting for DCS: Universe with x wings and what not ;) Shame about flight though, if only because we'l probably never see an FSX sequal now...

Now its time for PREPAR3D to pick up the glove or maybe for xplane.

I know a lot of people who really liked Flight. I'm surprised at how quickly it died.

Time for X Plane to shine? Civ Flight sim seems a fairly empty genre now.

It is actually alive and well. There are, from what I can tell, ten times more simmers flying FSX/X-Plane than DCS and BMS combined at any one time. As I am writing this there are 363 pilots flying on VATSIM right now. On the weekends it can get in to the thousands. Who knew that flying a bus would be so much more popular than combat flying.

I am with you on X-Plane! What a fantastic simulator.

Take care.
