Headspace Posted August 17, 2013 Author Posted August 17, 2013 There is, as of last I checked, no way to get the currently manned CA vehicle from the game. I've requested this (obviously) but it would be more cost effective not to add a hack workaround to for that functionality. TARS has taken a backseat to paid projects for the past two months unfortunately, but the SDK is still being worked on. The goal will be to allow you to specify, with scripting, new radio stations and "radio enable" vehicles of your choosing.

TARS has taken a backseat to paid projects for the past two months unfortunately TARS has taken a backseat I hope that registered with everyone. Free will always take a backseat to paid, this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Headspace has put A LOT of work into TARS. A lot of us are using it, submitting bugs (mostly poorly documented), asking Headspace (directly!) for tech support, requesting features (many of them impossible) etc. yet most of us hasn't paid one bit for any of this. I suspect we must appear like a bunch of whining two-year-olds most of the time. I'm willing to bet that less than half of the commenters in this thread has donated anything to the TARS project. (I don't have any evidence for this claim but it would take Headspace actively denying it for me to believe otherwise). This is not okay, people. TARS is effing brilliant and that kind of quality does not come for free. Let's keep it alive. Programmer no money for coffee; programmer no make good program! In short (and sorry for the rant): Donate, people! Edited August 17, 2013 by Sylvan Multiple quotes for dramatic effect
Kaiza Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 The goal will be to allow you to specify, with scripting, new radio stations and "radio enable" vehicles of your choosing. Sounds great. Sounds like we may be able to implement an ATIS in missions :) [SIGPIC]http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/2500/a10161sqnsignitureedite.png[/SIGPIC]

(I don't have any evidence for this claim but it would take Headspace actively denying it for me to believe otherwise). You would be surprised how many have donated. Just about all of the "serious" VFWs have. All funds go towards additional materials for further development (software and books). Donations are certainly very helpful, but free software is ultimately free software. Ultimately the SDK may become something that is payware, for other developers. But the early versions will not.
gunterlund21 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Hopefully the paid projects are for DCS :-) I was in Art of the Kill D#@ it!!!!
Headspace Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Hopefully the paid projects are for DCS :-) One of the truisms I've learned producing software at the professional level is that the more remunerative a project is, the less interesting it tends to be. I try to strike a balance between the interesting and uninteresting.
Spetz Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 (edited) Fast question, do you have the ability to mute any of the three frequencies that you can use for FC3 aircraft, or do they transmit and receive all the time? It would seem like if a player isn't used to having three nets active at one time, they might get overwhelmed. Edited August 27, 2013 by Spetz
Headspace Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 spetz: Different keys are used to transmit. If you want to mute one, set the frequency to zero or uncheck both volume boxes (your choice).
Spetz Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Thanks. We have some FC3 airframe pilots in the 159th and we are trying to see the feasibility of using TARS, and the biggest issue right now is the max 3 frequencies for FC3 aircraft, which are essentially shared between all FC3 airframes. The Ka and A10 have no issue obviously as we just tune off the FC3 freq's, but they don't have that option. Any idea if it will be possible in the future for separate FC3 aircraft to have individually tuned radios? That is really the only thing holding us back from committing at this time.
Headspace Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Any idea if it will be possible in the future for separate FC3 aircraft to have individually tuned radios? Please clarify--they are all tuneable by using the control panel. Do you mean something else? Thanks.
Spetz Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) What I meant was each FC3 airframes to have three radios. My understanding is that all FC3 aircraft share only 3 freq's. is this correct? So if we have 4 x frog foots, 3 x flankers and 5 x fulcrum airborne, all 12 aircraft can only use the 3 freq's are entered in the control panel, correct? Or is the control panel individual for each player? Hope that makes sense.... Edited August 28, 2013 by Spetz
Kaiza Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) It's individual mate. Anyone can put whatever they want in there. There is no requirement to have all FC3 aircraft on all the same freqs (that would defeat the purpose of TARS somewhat :) ) Edited August 28, 2013 by Kaiza [SIGPIC]http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/2500/a10161sqnsignitureedite.png[/SIGPIC]

Tell the frogs to set Uniform 226, the Flankers 227 and the Fulcrum 228. As long as they all still have 1 channel in common, like Guard then each group can still communicate with each other but also have discrete channels for each flight. With 3 radios, each configurable before the mission, there is a lot of versatility.
Spetz Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Thanks. I think I knew that but I brain farted for a minute.
Spetz Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 One last question. For FC3, all players have to be in the same TS3 channel, and with that you get your 3 freq's...is it possible to switch TS channels via hotkey and have another 3 freq's for that one? Essentially have 6 freq's divided into 2 TS channels.
Snoopy Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 That's not possible and if you did you couldn't talk to say an A-10C in another TS room. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website

VTJS17_Fire Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Bug? I don't know, if it's an issue, but long time ago (maybe 1 year) TARS worked as follows: + If you set the Mic-switch to UHF, you can only speak and listen on UHF + If you set the Mic-switch to VHF FM, you can only speak and listen to VHF FM ... and so on If my wingman spok on UHF, butI was on VHF FM, I couldn't hear him and he couldn't hear me. But now, equal which radio I set (with the Mic-switch), I can hear my wingman ever. If I'm on UHF and my wingman is on VHF FM, we can hear each other. Is that real? The only setting, in which I can't hear him, is if I change the frequency. So, why should I switch to another radio at all, if we hear us everytime? Thanks in advance, Fire Hardware: Intel i5 4670K | Zalman NPS9900MAX | GeIL 16GB @1333MHz | Asrock Z97 Pro4 | Sapphire Radeon R9 380X Nitro | Samsung SSDs 840 series 120GB & 250 GB | Samsung HD204UI 2TB | be quiet!
