Quick status update by Wags:

The dynamic campaign for DCS World is in VERY active development. The campaign will be real-time and basically be an AI-driven RTS playing out that the player participates in. We will talk more of this next year.

The video itself expressed a lot of my desires/concerns for what will make a good dynamic campaign engine. It seems that Matt and ED are really listening to the customer and will make every effort to bring the best for this feature.

+1 SD. I hope Matt pops in and chime in on progress...if any.

You know what would be great? This:

An online PVE (or PVP with COOP) dynamic campaign which takes into account:

1. a proper campaign ie. an established 'front line' with regular thrusts, large battles, attacks, etc

2. proper modelling of resources eg. factories, etc produce fuel, ammo, vehicles, etc which need to be transported to the front line. These factories are heavily defended but vulnerable.

3. proper logistics ie. constant supply convoys, trains, ships, etc. destroy a bridge, the convoys reroute or stop. This impacts the front line.

4. regular air raids and bombing raids by the enemy with bombers supported by fighters. Not being sent over in 1s and 2s unarmed - up to 10 or 15 bombers surrounded by fighters. Hell even fighter bombers with escorts.

5. proper tanks advancing from point to point with battles against allied tanks, and supported by ZSU and other AAA platforms. This is where the A10 and SU25 come into their own but also need escorting.

6. Make it so that when you select your role, you're actually joining a Squadron be it CAP or CAS or Multirole or Heli. The Sqn then gets orders to carry out which are part of some overall battle plan or defense plan.

7. A proper warning order to individual squadrons or units. Eg. support tanks at 123455; defend against air attack at 123455; attack shipping at 432234; etc.

8. When someone ejects from aircraft or crash landed on enemy territory this automatically creates a heli rescue mission, so a player or AI will have to fly his heli land, pick you up and bring you back, otherwise you will be captured and banned from campaign and wait till next one.

I wonder if they will sell the dynamic campaign module separately for each map? I assume that's because the Normandy dynamic campaign will be completely different from modern one like in Persian Gulf.

I like this except instead of banned from campaign just reset the pilot log if desired like we currently have in our current pilot log.

I hope not. I guess my vision FWIW is to have some overlay utilizing some elements from the mission generator setting areas/sectors to control, setting resources and so on. Just a rough thought, but I am sure ED is all over it as far as the outline of how it will work. :)

This is my #1 wish aswell. A DC of some sort. The sense of accomplishment and purpose as a cog in a full scale ongoing war is simply unbeatable in my opinion. But I can appreciate that DCS was not built around this to begin with why I think it will still be a long time (if ever) we'll see a DC like the one in Falcon. Just look at MBots Dynamic Campaign and what happens with performance in game in larger campaigns with many units. I think they would have to somehow entirely redesign how the engine handles active units, as in units that are far enough away from the player are "simplified in memory" and not really a "fully active" unit, and only when the player is close enough the "real" unit is spawned in... I don't know, my ramblings...Anyway I ain't holding my breath.

The only thing fresh (for me) content/mission wise is the several dynamic online missions like GAW or Blue Flag that has a feeling of dynamic campaign. And I feel for those putting so much time and effort into these missions knowing that DCS's scripting engine is temperamental at best and different things break and change every update.

I believe ED is well underway in delivering the much wanted DC. Looks like, if I am correct, they are using WWII maps and assets as a test bed soon...

...

DCS: P-47D Thunderbolt, DCS: de Havilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI, and DCS: Fw 190 A-8 Shrike

These three of these aircraft are well underway and we plan to release or more in 2019. With the addition of the new damage model, dynamic campaign, new World War II maps, and more units added to the World War II Assets Pack like the Ju-88, Bf 109G, C-47, A-20G, and others, DCS World War II will continue to grow and bring great new gameplay!

in a real war resources are not infinite.

if the oil runs out there is no more fuel for all the vehicles, even the tanks

AFwing.png

by how many aircraft and composed a wing commander?

a certain number of planes limited if the planes are destroyed their number decreases and therefore you lose the war.

Devs, any word on when we might here more on the DC from you gents. I thought it was worth asking. Just a little sentence or two would be awesome. A lot of Falcon boys are ready to make the transition if the DC kicks off as good as the one in BMS. Not that you gents do not know this already. You have to know your player base will spike significantly when this happens. Look forward to getting some fresh info on this. Thanks for all the hard work you guys do for the community. DCS has truly been a vacation for me after work more times than I can count.

Expected news, but nothing has talked about them on the official news from January. Now WW2 has near to get new aircraft's and the DM. Not bad some talk about them in the WW2 environment as initial release and some pic, functionality or data about your implementation.

The pleading for a single person dynamic campaign in DCS has been going on for years... This thread alone is over eight years old. I've been flying ED stuff since the beginning and I have to say, if ED has one in the works, I really wish they'd just confirm it to be a real project on their end. I can't think of any single thing that would have such a huge positive impact to the enjoyment and consumption of my free time spent flying the virtual skies.

Come on WAGS, give us some hope!

If it worked perfectly... what's the fun in that? :joystick:

Uhm, they already did confirm that officially: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3735513&postcount=178

Even Wags himself: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3673662&postcount=1126

They employed a dedicated engineer with RTS experience to work on the dynamic campaign: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3485763&postcount=1120

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before. A quick search on this thread didn't bring up anything.

I hope that the Dynamic Campaign system will include possibility to set different objectives and victory conditions for each side, so that it would be possible to design campaigns with uneven and unbalanced forces, which has been the case in quite a few modern conflicts, and is a common feature in many strategy games.

This would make it possible to have multi-player campaigns with unbalanced plane sets, with the underdog side having victory conditions, such as delaying the stronger side from achieving their objectives, or a "political victory" in terms of costly war through striking vulnerable targets, while avoiding direct conflict. This would encourage more tactical thinking and playing to the strengths of different OBs.

For example, a shot down F-15 fighter would be worth more victory points than a MiG-21bis, as would a APC or command tent compared to an insurgent MG truck. Delaying a capture of an airfield beyond certain time would be considered a victory, even if the defending side would get all but decimated in the process (to simulate costly operations and the rise of political discord in the stronger country). A bit more complex system (might require quite a complex engine) could introduce other constraints, such as avoiding collateral damage for the stronger side (a relatively simple calculation for targets in urban areas could already work here?).

Wags talked about the general concept of the DCS Dynamic Campaign in an AMA interview with Mudspike here: https://www.mudspike.com/mudspike-ama-with-eagle-dynamics-senior-producer-matt-wagner/?fbclid=IwAR1NgM9NGtg37X-y5MLYakJgLDg4Zr9cmUxp3s5qiMqGC6LEL_Zuyb5Sy3w

(I know it's been linked and discussed in some other threads, but as this thread here always was the general DC discussion thread I like to have this article linked here too in order to have a searchable thread with all the informations of the DC that are out there).

From todays development report:

Dynamic Campaign: We now have a basic test version that works within DCS World to evaluate the real-time strategy element of the system. We are using this to debug the system. In parallel, work is now underway on the UI interface and the AI machine learning code. This is complex and is receiving a lot of focus at the moment.
