vicx
Maybe I'm a wargamer at heart because I find myself playing a lot of CA despite it's many wrinkles. This is why I am most hoping that the new maps can benefit the CA experience. Right now the navigation of ground units fails mostly in areas where terrain is not modeled with enough fidelity to handle abrupt changes in elevation or where roads are floating due to lack of precision or where the seams of bridges do not align with roads or where ground units drive into creeks and drown. AI thought it was OK to cross that river but apparently it was not. Other obvious disappointments in CA I do not mention because in many ways it is impressive what was achieved with CA on the current terrain. The terrain was not ready for a ground war and I admire the effort that went into CA despite this. Right now CA is the silliest module but still it has enough charm to make me hope that it will have a version 2.0 that is improved because of new map technology. I have to agree, but it has so much potential once those defects are rectified. To be able to have full human control of all aspects of the war is the greatest of dreams. sobek
You guys are adding the time it took to develop EDGE to the time it took to create the Nevada terrain. Hint: They don't have to rebuild EDGE for every new map they develop. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives! Buckeye
DCS World 2.0 and New Maps Discussion Thread Maybe Not,Once The EDGE Technology is up/running/optimized map building my go rather quickly.Depends how user friendly the tools are. He wants it "quickly" and I'm just saying I've never seen an ED commitment that says it's going to be completed anytime "quickly". I think mid-2015 was what they had on the WW2 roadmap if I recall correctly. ED is developing Normandy in EDGE, so they already have whatever tools are available and the user friendliness of EDGE is thus a null point for that map. sobek
the user friendliness of EDGE is thus a null point for that map. Not really, the engine is only nearing completion, which may mean that they haven't had time to do a proper map building SDK. The tools and processes that people who wrote a program use in its context are often completely uninuitive and hard to get into for 3rd parties. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Yes, but what does a 3rd party have to do with Normandy? Isn't ED developing that map themselves? ED Team NineLine Posted October 24, 2014 ED Team Share Posted October 24, 2014 Yes, but what does a 3rd party have to do with Normandy? Isn't ED developing that map themselves? I dont think he was saying tools were holding up Normandy, but rather they might be holding up 3rd Party maps, or atleast partly.... Normandy is queued yup behind the other 2 maps as far as we last heard. Normandy is queued yup behind the other 2 maps as far as we last heard. Right on, that was my understanding as well (re: Normandy being 3rd in the queue of WIP maps by ED). I was originally speaking strictly to the Normandy piece of his post, I think that just got lost in translation somewhere along the way. VR Cockpit (link): Custom Throttletek F/A-18C Throttle w/ Hall Sensors + Otto switches | Slaw Device RX Viper Pedals w/ Damper | VPC T-50 Base + 15cm Black Sahaj Extension + TM Hornet or Warthog Grip | Super Warthog Wheel Stand Pro | Steelcase Leap V2 + JetSeat SE VR Rig: Pimax 5K+ | ASUS ROG Strix 1080Ti | Intel i7-9700K | Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master | Corsair H115i RGB Platinum | 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3200 | Dell U3415W Curved 3440x1440

Scoggs
Would be cool. But less interested in grass, I want larger ground clutter(bushes and rocks) so it really feels like you are haulin ass when flying 100ft off the ground. Nonetheless it is pretty interesting tech. rjetster1
This is technology 15 years ago… Look at it now… Turf effects/larger ground clutter (bushes and rocks) etc… It’s only a matter of time for almost everything else… as long as you continue to support DCS.
