NRG-Vampire Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 I'm guessing ED has a fairly small dev team? well, actually i know a few people well who are experts in these matters (what Matt mentioned) and could help shorten the development time (...and more ;) ) - Mission Editor presentation and overlays - Water rendering - Airbase lights - Building shadows - Object LODs so if ED or the dev team is interested i can give the names of those people :)
ED Team NineLine Posted November 13, 2014 ED Team Posted November 13, 2014 You should have them go to Moscow and fill out an application then, but dont assume its lack of ability that is the issue, the EDGE team is a pretty impressive group of people, what they are doing is a large task, throwing more people at an issue isnt always the answer... well, actually i know a few people well who are experts in these matters (what Matt mentioned) and could help shorten the development time (...and more ;) ) - Mission Editor presentation and overlays - Water rendering - Airbase lights - Building shadows - Object LODs so if ED or the dev team is interested i can give the names of those people :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

shagrat Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 throwing more people at an issue isnt always the answer... Usually it causes further delay, as the people who know the project need to train the new staff on the project! So you end up with the team minus the people training the newbies and minus the newbies... Only makes sense, if the project is of a nature where you can bring newcomers up-to-speed in relatively short time (if at all), so they can quickly contribute. A lesson learned by a lot of project managers... NRG-Vampire Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 A lesson learned by a lot of project managers... ▲ that was the problem anyway, observing this train of thought looks the most economical team is the one-man team, because you can also save the time what spent on communication (between team members) :D otherwise, if you want hundreds of trees be planted in your garden by gardeners then you will not use theirs services because you have to explain to them where/when/how big holes you want to dig by gardeners for those trees congratulation, you can do it alone, for yourself :D you saved a lot of time pretty sure you can confuse the simple but constant communication (which requires in a teamwork) an the master and servant relationship or you simply underestimate the abilities of experts
shagrat Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Let me be a bit more precise: if you are in the middle of a project, or nearing the scheduled delivery date and hope "simply adding resources will speed up things/save the day" in 90% of the projects you would have been better off with some nightshifts of the existing team... It's not my wisdom anyway, a lot of professional project management trainers (the guys the company calls in after a project failed to do some lessons learned) agree on it... Of course you need effective teamwork to accomplish anything in most business processes today. Not much "one-man-armies" or "lone inventors" out there that can compete for long. And yes, sourcing strategies do play a role, also. All depending on the project, its timeframe, available internal and external resources and so on... Sometimes I wish you could do it on your own, though! :D Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
sobek Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 anyway, observing this train of thought looks the most economical team is the one-man team, because you can also save the time what spent on communication (between team members) :D Dunno what the smiley is for. You are exactly correct. In a thought experiment where each team member has the same productivity and skills, a one man effort will finish the job in the least man hours. Being a team causes overhead. Nothing out of the ordinary there. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
vicx Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Rewriting a rendering engine, a small team. Tweaking models, textures and shaders could be done by a crowd, but that crowd would need to have the engine.
shagrat Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Rewriting a rendering engine, a small team. Tweaking models, textures and shaders could be done by a crowd, but that crowd would need to have the engine. ...and need to know how the engine/sdk/frontend works. Place a Photoshop expert in front of GIMP and wait a few seconds until the whining and complaining starts... one of the GIMP developers would simply start working. I know it is an apples to oranges comparison, but you will get the point. skinnadoor Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 DCS World Is On It's Last Leg.... We all know EDGE and DCS world 2.0 is on the way... but if your in my shoes..... playing DCS for a number of years ... basically since the beginning and then upgrading my PC...(last month) you see just how Ghetto the current DCS world is........And that is OK. Because things change over time and change is good. I am glad ED is so on the ball with DCS world... and 2.0 is going to be good and they are going to make a *$&% load of money. It's was also a bonus they released the new Beta Su-27 when they did...giving the die-hards something to hold on to...... until 2.0. I'm pointing out the fact that the aircraft are outstanding... which is something they can work on and they do... continuously. DCS world is not something that's easily replaced.. or revamped easily. I'm sure the team at ED is more jacked to get DCS 2.0 out more then the players are.... I'm sure they are tired of testing on the old architecture.
