Exorcet Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 The rings are shock diamonds which form naturally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXl7Y0rhnXQ I don't really see anything wrong with the current AB effect. Woogey Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 That is not an accurate comparison at all! Different aircraft different engine. Here is an SU-27: Keep in mind, the Orange color is washed out at night time, just as the blue color is washed out during daylight hours.

Exorcet Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 As long as the exhaust pressure is not ambient, shock diamonds shouldn't be unexpected. I'm not aware of any reason why they couldn't be present in any afterburner plume other than camera effects perhaps. Weta43 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) F-15 plane at different times of day through different cameras. English Electric Lightening. Same alcohol car doing burnouts 20 seconds apart through different cameras. Not saying you never really get that plume of flame, but some cameras pick up infra-red better than the human eye added alcohol flame in water bottle - same thing through different cameras. Through your eyes it looks more like the one on the left. Edited November 11, 2014 by Weta43 Cheers.

Maybe I am wrong, but perhaps the concern in previous posts is that they should be a little less 'ringy' and more 'diamondy'.

Phantom_Mark Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 New mission editor with Edge ? Is there a new mission editor planned to go with Edge ? If not, is there a new mission editor planned maybe ? An editor along the lines of Bohemia's Arma / Flashpoint series would be most appreciated, good cue's could also be taken from the IL2 editor as well......:pilotfly:
kripzoo Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Hope we get also new contrail and missile smoke trail effects with the EDGE. I see there's still that ugly flickering smoke in the new su-27 trailer, even its shooted with EDGE?

To me, it looks pretty much the same like it is now. SkateZilla Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Appearance of afterburners in photos can change depending on: -Ambient light -Exposure Setting -White Balance Setting -Night/Low Light Compensation -Lens Type -Shutter Type -Shutter Speed -Distance from Object. etc etc.. Anyways...yeah I just saw the FB screenshots last night and they look great ! (Been out of the loop for a few weeks). Phantom_Mark Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Thanks for those, Impossible to keep up with all the news. My only hope is that we can have some additional basic functionality like for example being able to loop waypoints for the ground units without the need for scripts, being able to have air units start in the world without immediately deploying to the first waypoint, just basic stuff really, stuff we can seemingly only do by including voodoo script stuff, which is fine if your wanting to do complicated stuff but seems a little over the top to make simple things happen. I always found the Bohemia and IL2 editors so much easier to use for basic creation of missions, and powerful enough to include with ease more powerful scripting stuff, not to mention the way you place objects in realtime rather than with simple icons :) Fingers crossed anyway, Edge is looking great, here's hoping the editor will be equally revised and improved.
shagrat Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I guess to actually compare Afterburner FX in DCS to real live you need to stand near a starting plane with afterburner on... even then, the look may be totally different at 10, 000ft... Just watch a movie from the cockpit of a prop plane, depending on the camera fps the propeller shows totally different on the video. http://youtu.be/6okqZW6E7bA It's the blurred black line coming down... Compared to Flickering blades... Both are not what you actually see in real life, in DCS the representation is much closer to real life than what you see on film. My guess, it is similar for afterburner FX. Maybe a real life jet pilot can tell us how it looks like in real life. I doubt any "videoproof" can help here...
