rrohde Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) Just curious, but I either cannot find a setting or visually spot those effects the sim. Am I doing something wrong or is this feature no longer modeled in the DCS World or other modules...? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a8/FA-18C_vapor_LEX_and_wingtip_1.jpg/800px-FA-18C_vapor_LEX_and_wingtip_1.jpg Thanks. Chazz Ulric Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 For some reason they where removed with the introduction to 1.22. There has been no real explanation from Devs as to why, at least not my knowledge.
Tholozor Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Probably for a graphical rework. IIRC when it was present, the entire trail would disappear front-to-back, rather than lingering when the aircraft stopped producing it. 112th_Rossi Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 It would be nice. If they lingered they would provide a good visual reference.
badger66 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I heard that they will be back , when is the other question .
112th_Rossi Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I've given up on EDGE. I'll believe it when I see it.
ericoh Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I've given up on EDGE. I'll believe it when I see it. This. And bring back Wingtip Vortices!!! And general Vapor Waves and everything, nothing screams "G" more then these!
Rotorhead Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Yeah. Want this: C'mon guys, even Flanker 1 had it.
SkateZilla Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Can we resolve FpS issues before we get Effects turned back on :), But i do miss my Vapor.... 112th_Rossi Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Yes, FPS issues are high on the list. I fail to see how FPS can shoot down to almost single digits at a moderately busy airbase.
BeachAV8R Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Agree on the FPS.. Be nice to see some wing bounce on some future offerings too...
sobek Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 and btw, more time with no news and status updates, my belief in EDGE is slowly decaying as well. :wallbash: Wags did say explicitly in his last update that he is out of town until this week, give the man a break. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Kaktus29 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 yeah, we should be patient.. it is what is is, .. ED is not a huuuge team that could as we might enjoy and like make such progress with the speed that we would like-2-5 months.. but instead things get dragged to 12-18 months instead.. we have to accept this as a fact of life.. if we would be dealing with a company with a much bigger client base and much higher profits it would mean much more staff, engineers, and money to spend and get projects done faster, like 3-6 months.. i'm okei with this... once one accepts this limitation it gets better, but not before..
112th_Rossi Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 There hasn't been anything specific on EDGE for a long time. Nothing major anyway.

I agree with your post but do you not think that such a long development time for an engine could result in the final product also being behind the times? I don't work for ED so I don't know. Speculation is all I have, although I do feel that something major is upon us.

Mike Busutil Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 People are already crying about the heat blur hurting the FPS, wingtip vortices will be another one of those items.... Instead of getting a better computer, they want mods and fixes to make their low end computer perform like a super computer. DCS is a high end sim, I say add all the details you can. SkateZilla Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) Erm, my other gaming system has issues with DCS at times... ... and it runs pretty much top of the line hardware and is constantly upgraded by the sponsor. Either way, EDGE is a renderer and takes time to code, you dont simply copy/paste Direct3d Render code and enable shaders. you write the base code, test, write a DirectX or Custom Shader, Enable, test, repeat for everything they turn on, until everything is coded and enabled. You have to test image rendering quality, wireframe, context edges, context full, test AA/AF, then turn things on one at a time for shaders, shadows, lighting, collision detection. and test interactions between each thing as they are enabled, go back and debug. Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 People REALLY forgot how much of a big thing a developers' update used to be. We'd get those once in a blue moon, more often than not without screenshots, containing only a short list of features which are being worked on/implemented/completed, with few or no pointers regarding future products. ...and when those updates would come it'd be Christmas for a day in the Forums :D Imagine if we called everything dead every time there wasn't mention of a feature on an update or not what we wanted to hear. Seriously, this fetish people are developing of calling everything (not only ED products, but a lot of 3rd party projects as well) stalled/crumbling/cancelled/dead unless there is a constant tracking of said project is nuts. Let people work on it, wouldn't you be pretty pissed off if every week at least 50 people kept speculating/telling you your project is dead/halted just because you didn't post photos of whatever you're building? Sure, some teams like VEAO are more active in the community and post a lot of videos showing minor features, and that's great! Others prefer to only come forth with something when they think they have something really big ready to show, which is cool too. And there are also others who just prefer to work away quietly and then show up out of nowhere and surprise us with a ready product. Awesome. The one thing all have in common? All are hard working teams and all should be respected equally. They just put out a Huey with some added instability - let's try and learn how to land it before they fix it, that'll keep all entertained until Friday :D
