I can see how offering a separate civilian flight product based on the DCS engine could be beneficial for ED, and people interested in civil flight. I don't see it at all integrating well with the current DCS combat multiplayer servers.

I can't see how it would be advantageous to ED in any way. Why create a different product with all its own costs and marketing requirements and separate support etc. when its the same product operating on the same system. Surely its just grossly inefficient from a business point of view.

The only time a civilian aircraft integrates into a DCS combat multiplayer server is when the mission designer puts those aircraft in there and gives them a purpose. At that point the civi aircraft integrate perfectly as that is what the mission designer intended. If they're not wanted there they won't be.

That argument has popped up a few times in this thread and I can't see why the combat focused individuals feel threatened by civilian aircraft joining the family or aircraft from other periods for that matter.

It is just expanding the capabilities of what can be done with the DCS system. With EDGE and new maps we'll have choices to do it all or just stick with the small niche that your interested in.

The name DCS doesn't have be thought of continually as a "combat" simulator. Some people seem to be stuck on that. I hope to see DCS to be thought of in future as a great system that can be used to model any aircraft or ground vehicle for that matter, in any period.

....with experienced strategy commanders who play on top of DCS to organize Air/Ground/Sea/Mixed hardcore battles for many countries, with thousands players in each side.

Me too.

The world is big enough, An the game could draw in a bigger crowd. I'd love to see more non-combat related aircraft in the game. Not so much on the Civi side of things but more of a different aspect of the war side.

By this I mean, With the upcoming advancements in Infy and troops for the Huey and other to come choppers, Why not take it a step forward more and bring in C-130's! Let me transport tanks and hummers and do drops. Load infy and drop para troopers. The list can go on and on.

Bring in the C-17's for newer models, Or even a...... C-5 Gal. :O

I love choppers, I love the support roles in war. Transporting, is my favorite part of a game. Having friends escort me to my drop zones etc.

Since the Huey, I've gotten more fun out of DCS from transporting troops then I ever have in the year and some months flying the A-10C. :)

So YES! Bring on at least a more supply / demand side of the game with needing tanks brought to the front lines for CA users to control! (Would love to see a C-130 in the game.)

I say why not have civ Traffic they can do there 9-5 flight school and I'll fly past in my ugly bad ass A10C with increased immersion and more of a need for basic aviation skills like app/dep headings.... all good things in my mind.

I'm more against Mario kart *ahem* I mean FC3 stuff ;)

Funny, where have you experienced your first multiplayer air to air combat, in P-51 or what? this community had AFM for Su-25/Su-25T since FC2, long time befor Ka-50 or A-10C.

There is nothing else that has been out there that can give you as good immersion in air to air multiplayer combat as FC series, Lets hope DCS will provide something to shot at for DCS F-18.

Civilian aircrafts should be done by 3d party developers, not by ED. having more aircrafts to fly is never bad.

I don't know if its allready on the list of this thread, but whats about larger military transport aircrafts like the C-130 or An-12 for example?

PS; ah! somebody else had the same idea allready:

Well, what's about an AWACS aircraft? With complete modelled radar functionality. :)

We need DCS: ATC before DCS: Cessna but, if ATC came first I bet the Cessna would outsell CA.

FSX was released in 2006. And now, after 7 years, weapons and military aircraft are being implemented.

DCS was released in 2008. So I reckon by 2015. we'll see some civilian aircraft starting to appear in DCSW...

It just occurred to me that if you add civilian airliners... you'll end up with people trying to shoot them down, like thats all they'll want to do.

That could make for some very politically incorrect youtube videos.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

hehehe... I would be one of them :music_whistling:

Their fault if they dont fly with Escorts or within their Air Defense network :D

I always try to get the AWACS when flying online and when available. But most times i get intercepted.

Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.

Actually, this is a really good question.

While I personally don't want to fly Civilian aircraft I see absolutely no reason why they cant/shouldn't be incorporated in the sim (preferably by a 3rd party not ED -Hornet,Hornet,EDGE,Hornet,Nevada,Hornet).

I honestly believe that IF ED expand this game the way they say they could (EDGE, New Maps, different eras of flight, new HiFi and LoFi aircraft, improved AI+ATC, better AI interaction/direction (via combined arms) dynamic campaign etc) then this sim/environment has the possibility of becoming THE only place for combat flight sims. If you extend that to commercial flight and ED has essentially cornered the flight sim market. Assuming it 'works' this would be great news for everyone and would draw all 3rd party devs to DCS, making the game bigger and bigger. I see no reason why commercial flying should not be excluded from this.

I'd like to fly a T-22M, Tu-160 and bomb the hell out of enemy airbase.

Would love to drive a Lun Ekranoplan and harass the hell out of Blue carrier group :p

If you can make a jumbo jet, or any civilian aircraft dodge missiles and be able to fight back I say go right ahead. Imagine how this will turn out in MP... plus, how many air bases could on of these things take off from? Given the ease of taxi and the runway length.

there are many civilian airports already in DCSW with sufficient length of runways for heavy transport/civilian aircrafts

and AF1 and E-4B already got too very effective countermeasures as well to dodge missiles

Congrats! The P51 is the best prop sim at the moment, get it if you don't already have it.

Yeah, I've been flying it a lot recently. Helped with learning concepts like P-factor and how to handle a tail dragger. Great sim.

Batumi, Sukhumi, Tbilsi, Krasnodar, Min Vody, and Beslan are civilian I think. Sukhumi and Krasnodar also have very long runways.

In Nevada, we at least have Las Vegas airport.
