Raven68 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Thanks Vincent for the heads up on the newsletter! F-18C is probably the most anticipated aircraft in the series so far that they're on course for. Ryback Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I think this goes here: I selected some major points from the latest newsletter: EDGE confirmed for 1.3.0. That's really an early christmas gift. For the first time, since they ever pronounced EDGE, we have at least a release version. As an ati user you can't imagine how happy i am. Confirmed improvements for MiG-29 as well as a mention of the F/A-18C being in progress.. F/A-18C :pilotfly: I didn't fly this bird since F/A 18 Korea (I'm old) Really looking forward especially since there are no news about F-15E. DCS: Armor confirmed. Was very obvious since Wags asked detailed info on M1A2;)
Cowboy10uk Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Hell yes, this is a fantastic newsletter. Bit disappointed to find no mention of the Cobra in there, but damn edge in 1.3.0, we finally have something to aim for and above all the biggest surprise a dcs level armour sim. Oh god yes. :) Happy happy days. genbrien Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 If DCS armor is confirmed than I hope EDGE brings some major ground physics overhaul Do you think that getting 9 women pregnant will get you a baby in 1 month?[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Mobo: Asus P8P67 deluxe Monitor: Lg 22'' 1920*1080 CPU: i7 2600k@ 4.8Ghz +Zalman CNPS9900 max Keyboard: Logitech G15 GPU:GTX 980 Strix Mouse: Sidewinder X8 PSU: Corsair TX750w Gaming Devices: Saytek X52, TrackIr5 RAM: Mushkin 2x4gb ddr3 9-9-9-24 @1600mhz Case: 690 SSD: Intel X25m 80gb
VincentLaw Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) If DCS armor is confirmed than I hope EDGE brings some major ground physics overhaulI assume that the ground physics will be handled largely by the tank AFM. Just messing around with the AFM code, I managed to implement surface roughness effects by applying semi-random vertical displacements to the aircraft when it runs off pavement. I also managed to get working variable traction based on surface types and on road/pavement vs. off road, but DCS currently has very limited surface types. I think I could manage variation of traction based on weather too, but I didn't try that. Of course EDGE will have much higher terrain geometry resolution, so that will help too. Python Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Lots of cool news in this newsletter. Good to hear the F-18 is being worked on hard and DCS level Armour sounds very interesting even to me. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

cichlidfan Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Since you brought it up... Can someone explain why the news letter goes out two days after the sale started (26 March 2014). One third of the sale period has already passed. Why does the sale announcement appear to be dated with a date that does not exist. Had it been cut-n-pasted right from the News text, the date would have read differently, and correctly indicated the sale start date, two days earlier. empeck Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) The mod community is growing here all the time... I know that, but the difference are public tools, samples and relatively well written wiki like BIS has, everything without the Fort Knox like NDA-wall. ;) I'm not trying to compare both products, but rather show why DCS won't be able directly compete to Arma, not without a serious paradigm shift. On the other hand, it may compete to SB Pro PE. Edited March 28, 2014 by empeck
ED Team NineLine Posted March 28, 2014 ED Team Posted March 28, 2014 I think you will see more documentation as people dive more into it, there is some pretty smart people here figuring stuff out without 3rd Party status help, I dont think they are going for an Arma type game anyways, but dont discount the smarts of this community :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

q800 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 DCS: Armor confirmed. Hmmm.... but that requires completely new and different level of details (map and terrain). DCS maps are good for airplanes... To make any sense these days, it has to be at least level of Steel Armor: Blaze of War (Arma level is rather impossible in terms of EDGE). DCS's map resolution matches resolution of M1 Tank Platoon 2's map. I think it's not good enough for tank sim today. But we'll see. It would be awesome. Right now i'd prefer DCS level Su-27 ;)
empeck Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 but if you know where to ask your questions you can find out most things ;) That's the problem, hehe. When you jump into the new engine sometimes you don't know even what to ask for. :D
