Guys -

These are the first pictures of the new Nevada map. They've started it from scratch several times from what I have pieced together,

Here's what was said:

"This past week we started rebuilding the Nevada map with the new map tools, but it is still early and very rough"

Don't over-extrapolate.

That was WIP pictures from a reimplementation. Not "starting from scratch".

Sometimes words mean exactly what they say. ;)

Oh boy, can't wait for Nevada. Though I fully intend to make believe it's someplace else, or a parallel universe or something.

I actually would like to see people making a few maps that aren't real places, but just have a bunch of interesting and scenic terrain to fight over. Kind of an Ace Combat thing, where any over-the-top scenario you felt like making could be justified with, "Well, it's not this Earth, and they do things different there."

That Backfire is gorgeous, it definitely deserved a makeover. I hope we eventually get a fancy new B-1 or B-52 as well; I know large bombers aren't the stars they used to be, but that's all the more reason they should get a workout in simulations.

Any new explosion stuff this time around is just for aircraft, right?

For when it goes wrong: Win10x64, GTX1080, Intel i7 @3.5 GHz, 32GB DDR3, Warthog HOTAS, Saitek combat rudder pedals, TrackIR 5 / Vive Pro, a case of Pabst, The Funk

Yup, and people wonder why they dont share more WIP stuff... damned if you do... damned if you dont...

Understandable, the comments by members in this thread just show you can't make people happy. People want updates, you give them, then they complain about WIP images.

Don't understand how you interpret "rebuilding" or "reimplementation" as not "starting from scratch". When I "reimplement" something, I remove the previous version and literally start it over from scratch. It means the old version wasn't cutting it and needed to be removed and restarted.

Now optimizing something is a different story. :)

Also - not flaming, just don't get why people have their panties in a bunch over very early WIP images.

What's the status of the separate 32 bit and 64 bit versions of DCS? Are these separate versions still a WIP? Are they on hold waiting for the new graphic engine?

Because there is a huge amount of material for it already done.

Because it's a training area for just about every western fighter out there.

Because it's been announced.

The question still stands... dunno why you think that answer of yours solve it.

Why such huge amounts of material has been done in the first place for such a... place?

Obviously... why was announced is dismissed also by not answering properly to first question.

And the cherry on the cake... because it is major training area... give me a break... It is a training area because you can shoot red dots in the desert without being disturbed or risk killing someone. For a game world is and will be utter... .... ... boooooOOOOOOring.

Now we are simulating trainings... yay!!! How about we train first for simulating a training :D

in the desert!!!

can't wait for some sand in my engines.

The only sensible reason I can think of for picking such boring place (sorry for people living there, Vegas means nothing for many of us) is that US Army wanted to have a desktop trainer with the training area (funny) and ED started developing one but something happen in between.

I can't wait for EDGE and I hope that those pictures are taken using a beta Map with old engine (from first pictures at dusk so it seems)... but Nevada? Sorry... there will be nothing to do there. Training for simulating a training... nope... not my thing.

DCS:W has dropped 32 bits some time ago.

You need first a small area to test the engine until move to something more big.

Yes because all the stuff we do in the current map is so historical accurate and plausible... not sure why people get so hung up on missions based on US soil... training, mock invasion... heck I am going to make a mission in Nevada with the 190... so there :P

Naaah... he just made the wise decision of not showing WIP pictures anymore because people _always_ read more into them than what was actually shown.

there are already 32/64 specific executables... eventually 32-bit will no longer be supported.

Looks like it's being rendered from the cloud just above it at the top of the shot (barely visible).

Uh, yes- there's a cloud. There's a reason I'm asking the question, because clouds do the same on satellite imagery as well. But "what" is rendering the shadow was *not* the question asked- "how" the image is being rendered (whether in software, or, by satellite images), was, based on the version accessible on FB (which was the only one I'd seen prior to asking the question).

Pulling up the HR here on the forum shows it to be an in-game render. Question answered.

the clouds seem to be the only thing casting shadows.. lol.. the sunset ground shots... non of the buildings have shadows.. lol which is why i said there may be alot of shaders (AO, SS, etc) turned off still.

Perhaps I have wrongly made the assumption that EDGE will replace the current IG. If that is not so then I have absolutely no problem with this.

I'm interested in some clarification on this. Is EDGE replacing the current IG (meaning we're stuck in Nevada) or not (meaning the Caucasus map will still be available)?

I'm aware of the current 32/64 separate executables, I was seeking the approx. time when they would drop the support for the 32 bit hoping for a little more performance increase with the 64 bit stand alone version.
