Talisman_VR Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 (edited) Looking at the start up clip from Wags, I notice that it appears we might not be getting the gyro gun sight. Given WIP, does anyone know whether the type of gun sight has been confirmed as gyro or not yet? Happy landings, Talisman Edited November 25, 2016 by 56RAF_Talisman spelling
MiloMorai Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 As 1943 a/c didn't have gyro gun sights, would say no.
Talisman_VR Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 As 1943 a/c didn't have gyro gun sights, would say no. Ok, thought I read that they were issued during the period of the Normandy invasion. Happy landings, Talisman

Sharkey2009 Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Hi Guy's Anyone know if they are going to simulate the effects of the Carb on the Spit. as the old girl hates Zero G effects in dives due to the Carb thinking its empty and then it floods the engine with fuel. Might be wrong on this being an issue with the Mk IX tho
Tomsk Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 The Spitfire LF Mk IX used the Merlin 66 engine, which had a Bendix-Stromberg injection carburettor. As I understand it this newer carburettor didn't have the same starvation problems under negative G that the older Spitfire engines had.

Aye didn't think it did but wasn't 100% on that thanks for the info

Cripple Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 They also resolved this in earlier variants with Mrs. Shilling's orifice. Oo-er! (Tilly Shilling was quite the character too. More on her and her Orifice on the mildly off-topic wiki linky below.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatrice_Shilling My *new* AV-8B sim-pit build thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3901589 The old Spitfire sim-pit build thread circa '16/17: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=143452
No.401_Wolverine Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 They also resolved this in earlier variants with Mrs. Shilling's orifice. I wouldn't say resolved. Mitigated it is more accurate. The starvation of the engine still would occur under sustained negative G, it just wasn't as immediate. Bendix Stromberg in the LF Mk IX though as has been said (referenced in the startup video even), so should be fine.

razo+r Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Is there going to be one Key combo for both the starter and the Coil button or how is this going to work?
Zilch Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Is there going to be one Key combo for both the starter and the Coil button or how is this going to work? Buy a second mouse. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Zilch79's YouTube Channel:

klem Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Is there going to be one Key combo for both the starter and the Coil button or how is this going to work? I watched for this in start up video. He uses the mouse for all operations except the starter and booster coils buttons. At the critical moment he just say's to press both and move the idle cutoff lever. Well, I see him use the mouse to move the idle cutoff but not to operate the starter buttons, nor do I see them animated. I'm guessing it will be one key especially as keys are generally short in DCS. klem 56 RAF 'Firebirds' ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F mobo, i7 8086A @ 5.0 GHz with Corsair H115i watercooling, Gigabyte 2080Ti GAMING OC 11Gb GPU , 32Gb DDR4 RAM, 500Gb and 256Gb SSD SATA III 6Gb/s + 2TB , Pimax 8k Plus VR, TM Warthog Throttle, TM F18 Grip on Virpil WarBRD base, Windows 10 Home 64bit
Echo38 Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I'm guessing it will be one key especially as keys are generally short in DCS. It doesn't need to be this way. I only need maybe a dozen keys for the P-51D; most of the cockpit functions are only needed on the ground, where mouse works just fine. In flight, where mouse hand is on the joystick (and thus keys/buttons are needed in lieu of mouse), there are only a few functions that are needed (flaps, gear, gunsight, radiators, etc.). It leaves plenty of room for two of the less-handy keys (e.g. on the right side of the keyboard) to be used for simultaneous switches during startup. The A-10C is a different story, but we're talking WWII fighters, not modern aircraft with all the MDF stuff. 1
