I'm not sure where the file is located that controls the canopy. I know some guys have tinted the forward sections like the real one but I don't know which file they modified. If you could point me in the right direction, I'll work on adding it.

Excellent work Ryan! She is a work horse and should be dirty :D

Obviously you've never had QA look at an A-10 after a wash ;). I think people would be shocked how clean they want her to look.

Plus a crew chief who takes pride in his jet will spot wash her.

As to the skin....Good work but IMO the gear bays are to dark.

It's fairly simple, it just won't be a 3d flag, it would look like the flag was drawn on the dash.

And it will be on both sides. I tried this years ago and just didn't look right.

Obviously we are in the sim world ;) and in my opinion the A-10 looks better and more intimidating when shes dirty than when she is super clean and shiny.

Obviously you are talking to a man that prides himself in his work, and a dirty bird doesnt work for him :)

Yeah, that is a bit of a question. Sim world v real life. As Paul says in RL if an aircraft looks clean and tidy then the likelyhood is that it is well maintained. But in the sim if an aircraft looks dirty it looks used and therefore looks like it's seen more action. Is this Hollywood conditioning? Probably. In my opinion every time in load the game it's like I've just bought the thing cos it never changes. But I guess this would be RL if it were well maintained to pass QA. On modern aircraft anyways- I imagine in WW2 front line fighters things would be different with the amount of time left for servicing/cleaning aircraft between missions. Would dynamic dirtyness change the game for the better. I think it would probably look better yes, but this is a sim after all. Should that mean only realistic flight models/ avionics etc?

Maybe this should have a thread of its own.

Maybe I need a bacon roll with tomato sauce to ponder this question.

Or maybe that's already been done

Maybe I've had too much wine! Hiccup! In which cas I really DO need a bacon roll and tomato sauce! :)

As a tip, run an eraser over some of the rivet streaks. Not all of them need it.

Generally the only reason you get what we call smoking fasteners are because of a leak , especially one under pressure . Like the fuselage on a pressurised aircraft . The pressure on the inside of the fuse will blow on a dodgy fastener . Now dodgy doesn't mean dangerous . For example ..... on a large airbus repair you are allowed 10% dodgy rivits , not in the same area obviously . Example ..... If I put in a dodgy rivet ..... I will change it if I can , If the rivet is in a real nasty spot , drill it out and try again . If it happens again I take an educated guess and say leave it , solvent clean it and cover it with a sealant called PR1422 B1/2 . Repeated drilling out of a fastener enlarges the hole each time no matter how carefull you are ..... then you have to imagine that you take the hole up to the next overside if you can or to the next nominal size . Then think about the edge distance from the centre of the hole to the edge of the material ..... possibily you will loose edge distance requiring a repair on the inside ..... so yes , sometimes we leave in a didgy rivet .

Another reason a fastener might smoke is that its not in fact properly countersunk , or CSK to the wrong depth or in fact angle ..... we use 82 , 100 , 130 degree in aircraft and not household 90 degree angle .

Hope this enlightens you to smoking rivets ..... and other structure questions you can throw at me if you like .

With Ricardo's Horse of War cockpit re-texture, and this weathered A-10C re-texture, the A-10C may be the ugliest most beautiful aircraft in DCS. I am highly anticipating this mod release. Hope it comes soon!

OK OK OK, I have been away from DCS with other things, but everyone seems to want this skin so I will work on it this weekend and try to have it finished. Thanks for your interest.

Well I've got good news and bad news.....

The good news is I'm working on this project again.

The bad news (for you) is that I got up close and personal with a couple A-10's last weekend at an airshow and I got lots more pictures to use for my detailing. And they were the dirtiest A-10's I've ever seen for me that's great. But it means you'll have to wait longer for the final product because I have lots more details to add.

Here's some progress from tonight...

I did a lot more on this side of the plane. If you look closely you'll see details like grungy finger marks, hand prints, and even a boot print to make it interesting.

Here's some cool detail on paint chips...

Even though I weathered the stock wheels, I redid them using the actual photos from the aircraft.
