Unfortunately that level of realism cannot be achieved with todays VR headsets. But thinking of Matrix I envy trinity for just downloading the helo skills in seconds.

Carrier IFLOLS overbright…..and overlay query
Hippo replied to markturner1960's topic in Bugs and Problems
Good day, fellow Supercarrier lovers! So I've been away from DCS for around six months and now I'm back with a new mobo, cpu, gpu, new W11 + DCS installation and thought I'd come and see how this is going. It really is not my intention to annoy anyone; but, again, on my system I am unable to reproduce this issue. If anything, I have to ask whether something has changed, as the lighting seems to have improved. All carrier lights are easily visible (bearing in mind the resolution constraints of my Quest Pro) from a very long distance away. I'd say it's back to how it used to be years ago, perhaps unrealistically bright, but great imho for vr flight simming. I include my settings in case they help anyone. I am using Link with a cable for the connection and QuadViews Foveated. Again, I'm sorry if this annoys anyone, it really isn't my intention, I'm just intrigued as to why I have never seem the overbright carrier you are (were?) all seeing. Incidentally, after touching down, the landing lights unfortunately seem to cause the foveated area to ocassionally flash so I see a bright yellow square (not shown below), but that's a matter for another topic. -
The R-77 cannot be used in STT, it is not possible.Especially for two targets. The radar is not capable of maintaining STT on two targets at once, it is not a PESA Nonsense

Updates are optional unless you play public MP. It's not DCS fault you have slow, choking connection. No auto-resume but no data downloaded is lost - just run updater again and it resumes the download. Yes, you can play during DCS update - the unpacking will fail if the download ended and unpacking has started during your play - you'll have to run updater again and it's fixed. No, absolutely not every game allows you that - ever seen grey "play" button, waiting for it to get green again? We buy drives for our software to read and write data on it - nothing more, nothing less. If it's used that means it works as designed. No, it does not. You need a few DLC maps to reach 400. This is a free game we're talking about. No one forces you to buy anything. But if you do, then yes, it's a big game, especially if you want multiple maps. Quality comes with more data - more data means more storage. Welcome to reality. Disks are growing with us. If you have multiple drives you can use symlinks to share data between them. DCS doesn't have to stay on one drive. Display resolution has nothing to do with textures resolution. And even 4K texture on low res display can look crappy when the object is close enough to the view point. Do you even understand this? Again, no one forces you to buy anything. If you can't afford it or don't need 4k at 120Hz just cut graphic options down and play on older hardware. Simmers go for high end hw to get top notch quality experience - not just to run the game on 22" FullHD at 30fps. Yes, it helps a lot and it's good but you don't need most of it to play - it's all optional. Please, speak for yourself. I see most of your points as lies and misconceptions. Do you even play DCS or just write rants on the forum?

It's unfortunately not reliable in my experience. If running in VR at 72hz and maintaining 72 fps, and just relying on the games internal FPS cap (or your headsets) it will report as CPU render thread limited as you say. But when the GPU struggles to maintain that 72hz/fps, and you dip below 72, it will still report as CPU render thread limited. Despite the GPU being definitively the limiting factor. Additionally, if you have enabled reprojection and your GPU can;t keep up and you end up at half refresh rate being reprojected to hit 72fps, it will also list you as render thread limited. Despite the GPU again being the limiting factor there. In the same scenario, with NVCP being used to cap the game to 72FPS: when maintaining 72 FPS it will report you as GPU limited. But more importantly, when you dip below 72 if the GPU can't keep up, it will correctly report the game as being GPU limited. With the external cap in place, if you run into main sim thread bottlenecks it will still accurately point towards the main sim thread being a problem. But the render thread will no longer be inaccurately reported as the problem when the GPU can't keep up. Additionally to all of this, DCS' internal FPS cap appears to have frame pacing problems in my experience. This isn't entirely uncommon in games, which is why it's often recommended to use an external tool to cap FPS for better frame-pacing generally. The FPS graph being incorrect could be a quirk of my particular VR setup. Given that Quest/Pico headsets can sometimes run the PC at 99% GPU usage instead of 100%, and use additional encode. Maybe the game is misinterpreting that as having some GPU overhead leftover idk, I don't currently have a wired displayport headset to compare to atm.

Hi everyone, I’m Liam Wonka, new to the forum and about 3 months into DCS World. While flying the F/A-18C, I noticed an issue where TrackIR sometimes snaps my view to the wrong position after pausing and unpausing. Instead of restarting the whole mission, I found that pressing F12 (recenter) after pausing TrackIR fixes it right away. It keeps the cockpit view stable and saves me from a lot of frustration. I just thought I’d share in case others encounter the same issue. If there are better fixes or alternative methods, I’d love to learn from the more experienced pilots here. Blue skies, Liam Pips NYT

The 18.1 deg/s tested in DCS is for 14,862 kg. As for 20 degree/s, I don’t know. It is never stated. I have found multiple charts in manuals showing 20 deg/s but they never say the weight or configuration. But I imagine it’s likely 550 kg-50% fuel and 2x R-27 + 2x R-73. This one is from a “study guide” for pilots that goes through details of the structure. Okay, maybe it’s 19.5 deg/s Here is it in a book but seems slightly different, shows it exceeding 20 deg/s. But of course I’m going to trust the obscure Soviet military training document over the book published in the 90s in America…..however it describes the chart as “turn rate with missiles” which definitely suggests it to be atleast 2x R-27 + 2x R-73 configuration.

Hello this has been discussed a lot, our implementation is based on data and SME feedback over the years. The pylon use is optional however for mission designers. We will not be changing the HARM setup thank you

Да именно так. Виртуальной рукой не получается взять за рычаг. РППУ берется без проблем, интерактивность тоже на высшем уровне, а рычаг, после одного из обновлений перестал браться.

Hello, There is information going around that the F-16C Viper cannot use HARM missiles from inner pilons. The ones that carry external wing fuel tanks. IRL it can carry HARMs, they can be successfully mounted, but cannot be used as it is not intended to be used with those pylons. That leaves Viper with only 2 possible HARMs instead of 4. Can anyone confirm if that is the case and will ED remove 4 HARMs load out if it is not realistic? Best regards.

Hi, please check what we have said again, we do not make promises but we do share our plans, we are working on improvements for the updater and disk space which is a concern for everyone. As mentioned previously we rolled back the changes to rethink our strategy, this was after getting considerable feedback from the community. Once we are ready to implement a better system we will let you all know. thank you

@celestHawk Thank you for speaking out! I do agree with many of the points you make. Presumably, the silent majority simply accepts DCS as-is or – worse for us who stick around – simply drops DCS. Without a constant influx of new players/simmers, DCS will eventually die out for lack of funding. I'd love to see ED's statistics on retention of new users. Having started DCS two years ago, I can attest to the onboarding experience being subpar compared to other games/sims around. Without the community content, I would have been lost even more. But, as you pointed out, there's nothing like DCS, which is the only reason I stuck with it. DCS' bugs and issues puzzled me. I come from ArmA 1 thru 3 and DCS seemed like a noticeable step backwards in terms of documentation, scripting, and stability. The updater is archaic. ED promised background updates about a year ago but they never materialized. It should continue interrupted updates and also recognize insufficient disk space, though. Never had an issue with that. @Rudel_chw You are a decade-long, die-hard DCS fan. You are entitled to your opinion. However, sarcastically telling disagreeing users to just "bugger off" is against everyone's interest. DCS needs to retain and grow its user base to keep its business afloat. If a superior competitor ever comes around it may flip the switch on DCS. Having started DCS two years ago and having a software development background, I'm still unpleasantly surprised by its multitude of bugs and issues. While ED do solicit feedback and bug reports, I feel like the effort is in vain if such posts do not get acknowledged officially. In case you'd like to know more about my – certainly incomplete – technical assessment and suggestions for the DCS core, feel free to read this. No feedback from ED about it, just like several core bug reports, I've recently posted, which is frustrating. Also nothing new on the net.dostring_in() issue. An 8+ CVSS security vulnerability simply sitting around despite a mitigation being available. There's certainly room for improvement.

Hello @Nightstorm, is there an option you can update it for the new sniperpod? The MFD doesn't show the information next to the OSB's on the MFD on the TGP page. Thank you! This is the best and only MOD I use in VR.

I understand your frustration, your recent post in the bugs section has maybe sent you over the edge. I think you forget that without Eagle Dynamics none of the community projects would be possible. Our team and the work we do can be seen in our change logs, with well over 16 years of production, and working with the community, to claim we do not care because we can not grant every wish is just silly. I wish you all the best and hope that you will continue to enjoy DCS. best regards Bignewy

By the way. If you like to compare different VR headsets, ChatGPT can do an amazing job in collecting and comparing the specs and summerize user reports. It also is able to explain the features quite accurate.
