Esteban73 started following Update to 2.9.19.13478 failed or is corrupted.

On 8-15-25 I tried to update my DCS to 2.9.19.13478 but it seems to have failed and corrupted my install. I’m only now finding the time to attempt a repair. ---------- My system: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 updated to build 19045.6093 32GB Ram. RTX 3070 Ti GPU. Intel i7-8700k CPU. The main install of DCS is on SSD drive D which had approximately 80 to 90 GB free space prior to updating. I use hard symlinks for The Channel, Persian Gulf, Syria and Nevada maps which are on SSD drive Y. I had Nevada ‘deactivated’ in the Launcher prior to the update attempt. I unfortunately did not notice the size of the update before attempting the update. The updater gave no warning of insufficient drive space. DCS_updater.exe said it updated "successfully" to 2.9.19.13478. When I opened the Launcher and then started DCS, I received a message onscreen saying: Authorization failed Authorization is valid for 2d 23h 59m The following DLCs are not authorized and will be disabled: TheChannel The ‘Files’ feature in the Launcher showed The Channel as installed but I didn’t find any Channel content after DCS itself was loaded. I closed DCS for a while to search for guidance online. When I restarted the Launcher and restarted DCS I received the same error message again with the validity at the same 2d 23h 59m even though considerable time had passed. I restarted the Launcher and used the Repair feature. Some action of repair occurred but the details flashed by too quickly. When I restarted DCS once more, the error message no longer displayed. However, I still didn’t find any Channel content within DCS. Within the Module Manager, the Channel map didn’t even show as installed though the Launcher still showed it as installed. I have attached the logs from the update and the repair update. The update log indicates it may have tried to update the Channel map. The repair update log indicates it repaired or installed the Persian Gulf map, but nothing showed about the Channel map being repaired. The Eagle Dynamics online Change Log doesn’t indicate any kind of updates for these maps. On drive D there are now two new ‘backup’ folders: _backup.002 which contains the Channel map _backup.003 which contains the Persian Gulf map. Both are dated 8-15-25 and seem to be only partial backups (maybe just backing up what got changed?). On drive Y the Persian Gulf was partially(?) installed or updated. Syria, Channel and Nevada seem to have not been updated. I’d appreciate suggestions on how to recover from this point without a complete reinstall. (I understand I may need to buy a larger SSD dedicated to DCS but I still prefer the option to use hard symlinks.) Since my D drive was low on free space that may have caused the installer script to fail. Ideally, wouldn’t the scripts analyze the installation layout, the free space available, whether symlinks are present and then provide the user with a warning if a complete, clean update is unlikely? I received no such warning. I do have backups of folders D:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World, Y:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\terrains, and C:\Users\xxxx\Saved Games\DCS from before the failed update. Can I just delete the post-update folders and replace them with these backup folders? Will that restore my installation to the way it was prior to the update attempt? Are one or both of the scripts unable to handle the use of hard symlinks? How do I remove and reinstall the corrupted maps? Are the _backup.xxx files even useful at this point? If I do have to do a nuclear option and reinstall everything, is reactivating as simple as signing into my DCS account online? Any guidance will be much appreciated! (A larger drive is on it's way...) autoupdate_log.txt repair_autoupdate_log.txt

Okay something definitely changed since I flew in dogfight server all the time many months ago. At low altitude I can now pull 9 G all through the expected speed range. It takes either almost or full back stick, but it does it. Maybe a stealth fix while they work on the FF…..

Bug1 started following Map navigation Improvements needed for WWII pilots
-
Can DCS please upgrade the (F10) MAPS and knee board maps to include the grid numbers or letters to help navigate in game. I fly the WWII MAPs. In game you get a message on enemy activity as heading (W) , Bearing (S), altitude (Low) which has no valuable info as a pilot there is no grid to reference the location of enemy aircraft if we had a grid number and letters on the sides of our map we could triangulate our target. Maps have grids that you can triangulate a course without knowing a town name it makes the game more immersive. Can we please address this in the next updates. Remember WWII did not have radar scopes or GPS in their aircraft it was all maps and land mark recognition.

1) Why no head lights or brake lights on vehicles? (Its a simulation) at night people drive with their lights on. Not every vehicle has night vision and tanks do have headlights. (easy fix) 2) Why aren't there more realistic tank explosions? for example Russian tank turrets popping there tops or catastrophic explosions when their ammo cooks off. Or vehicles that don't explode or burn but are disabled. Not everything has to explode. Tanks loosing their tracks and are immobile but can still fire their weapons. These should be also be easy. 3) Realistic ship sinking times. It can take hours for a ship to sink depending how fast water is flowing into the hull. (The Russian cruiser Moskva was struck by Ukrainian missiles on the evening of April 13, 2022, and sank in the early morning of April 14, 2022, approximately six to ten hours later. The cruiser, hit by two Neptune anti-ship missiles, experienced a fire and ammunition explosions, leading to its capsizing and eventual sinking while being towed.) 4) Why when a column of vehicles falls under attack the ENTIRE group instantly make 90 degree turns and then park themselves out in the open so they are easy prey. (Something more realistic would be... if I'm driving at the front of a column, and the back of the column is attacked, I might not be aware. So I would just keep driving as nothing had happened. If I became aware I would speed up, making evasive maneuvers, seek cover behind builds or under trees. Why wouldn't people be jumping out of the vehicle, running for cover and opening up with small arms fire at incoming aircraft?) Sorry, but in DCS World, the AI sucks. These are some things that are completely stupid and should have already been resolved.

Well, kind of complicated if having your Hotas and maybe other USB gadgets ( UFC, MFD etc.. ) on one PC and the actual DCS core running on another is what you want. It is first off not ment to be/work/function by design of the involved software and second, even if, it wouldn't make it any simpler or less work even if you knew how. The only thing that may get close to what you may want, lots of guesswork here, is a Client-Server Home setup. That frees up your actual flying rig and puts some load to the server, your old rig. The bigger the mission the bigger the gain as rule of thumb. I would do this anyway, if you have 2 PC's at your hand, it's not uncommon at all. With 10 and 11, you can basically take the drive, or clone it, and PLUG IT IN THE NEW MAINBOARD. It will work and if your Windows was in good shape that is what I would do to avoid reinstalling all the stuff and licenses and configs and settings, weeks, not days of work, at least in my case. The only thing you should do if you take the existing OS install along is uninstall al MB specific software, Audio, BT, WLAN etc. if there are any listed in Apps before you unplug it and before plugging into the new MB. That's all there is. There is no more HAL like XP had that did not allow you to do this. It is on par with Linux, take the drive, plug it in and boot it. Safes alot of installing in many cases. Win will reboot once or twice to sort itself with new Hardware found on first launch, that's normal. If it, against all odds, should go wrong, make a backup of your data FIRST, make two !

The lights above Engine Test Regulator buttons won't light if I press them. I don't know if this is a bug or if this test is not modelled. Thanks a lot.

The files that you install or uninstall are located in DCS <root folder>\Mods\Aircraft. If the module's folder that you just uninstalled, are still there with any content, you can fully delete them without harm to your installation. IIRC, when you command for a module uninstall, those files at DCS <root folder>\Mods\Aircraft are deleted. Do not confuse with necessary files for displaying a unit properly inside "Core Mods" folder. Everyone need those file to be able to fight against and fight alongside with the unit in the simulator environment. Note: <root folder> - Wrote it because that file name is customizable and it goes by default as DCS World, but I'm not fully sure because it is been a long time since I've installed DCS from scratch.

Thanks guys for taking the time to write. I know it is only a few GB of data but even a few KB is too much if I don't need it. I am asking how to fully uninstall a module properly that wont break my DCS.

Sniper doesn't have "issues"; it's Lightening that has the problem now, as it should be downgraded, but that's a completely different topic and not for this thread. I completed the entire campaign (except for mission 13) with the Sniper. It's obviously more difficult then, and better guidance with more data would probably be useful at times, but as you can see, it's possible to complete 12 missions with the AAQ-33 . Fortunately, we can rearm ourselves if someone wants to use more difficult optics ;). Cheers!
