Well, here's something I am really happy to brag about :D Yesterday, I flew from military base EPDE (busy with mil traffic) to EPWA (busy with civ traffic) and back with different route! This was my PPL(A) exam! What a thrilling and difficult flight it was. Cross wind at my altitude was 30kt and gusts were throwing me all over the place. It was even snowing here and there. So now I can officially say, that passion won, I got my real-life wings :) Yey!:pilotfly:1 point

Alright guys (and gals!), the site is up and running. No lessons available yet, but some reading can be done, it will explain how the LET lessons will work, how they are built, how you can purchase it, etc. There are some other cool features also, and the forum is available. Here's the address: http://LeadingEdgeTraining.us And don't forget to scroll down on the frontpage, it seems it's easy to get caught up on the screenshots... :). Thanks for everyone's patience, this is a major milestone on our way to providing the best DCS training available anywhere!1 point

As a mission designer I always try to build my missions as realistic as possible. I don't like missions where you are put against a obviously unrealistic amount of targets or target type. For the A-10 I pretty much know the employment doctrin due to the various books and articles about that aircraft. But the employment of the Su-25 somehow remains a mystery to me and I would like to learn more about it in order to write better missions for the Frog. So first lets ask some basic question about the employment of the Su-25: -What target type would be assigned to them ? -What amount of targets ? -Would Su-25 attack close to friendly troops ? -Do Su-25 operate together with FACs ? -What altitude regions would the Su-25 operat in ? -What team and attack tactics would the Su-25 use ? -What kind of threats would the Su-25 be used against and what not ? -What weapons are primary used ? How has the above changed in history from the classic central european scenario, over Afghanistan, Chechnya to possible future conflicts ? Of special interest is a hypotetical large scale war against a well equipped enemy ( USA ), as we don't have real world examples for that type of war for the Su-25. Of course I have come to some conclusions myselfe judging by the planes design and few things I read about its employment, but I don't know for ceratain if they apply. I guess Su-25 would primary be used against stationary targets like bunkers or bridges, troop concentrations and troops moving in columns. The planes limited sensor and weapon outfit suggest that it would not be able to effectivly destroy single moving targets in a dangerous envoirment. The low maneuverability and relative high speed ( compared to A-10 ) und low fuel supply suggest that the Su-25 would make one single fast attack run, drop all ordenance at once and return to base. The bad cockpit visibility, low maneuverability and low loiter time also suggest that the Frog would not be used in classic CAS missions close to friendly troops but rather do BAI sort of missions. What are your toughts on this ? Anyone having good literature suggestions ?1 point

To prepare myself in body and mind for the forthcoming release of FC2.0, I am giving up flight sims as a sort of LOMAC-lent. From now on until the release of FC2.0 I will not; · Throw my beloved A-10 around the sky ignoring all warning tones · Curse the overheating laser in the SU-25T · Mutter about "notching" in the "tennis court" · Get my ABRIS in a twist in Black shark · Get nostalgic playing Allied Force · Not even Fart about in FSX thinking, "if only I had some bombs..." Instead, I will be in flight-detox, tooling along somewhere off the English coast now that Silent Hunter 5 has enough mods & patches to make it playable. If you should be sailing on a quiet day somewhere off Norfolk, you may think that you can hear distant muttering from under the water. If you put your ear to the water, you might even hear the muffled phrase, "where's the f****ng torpedo spread angle button gone??" Don't worry, you are in no danger. I couldn't sink a brick. So, the question is, WHAT ARE YOU GIVING UP FOR FC2.0 ? :angel:1 point

It´s awesome how many engineers are here talking about a... uhmmm.......a "prototype". Maybe Sukhoi could send you a work contract. They are always searching for good advisers. Who knows, maybe with your help the PAK-FA finally could take the correct shape. Of course F-22 shape. This crazy russians trying to made a plane for they own. XDD.1 point

Where does the F-22 sacrifice aerodynamic performance? Its beats the snot out of everything in everything. Who said? ;) Not a chance. They'll use duct blockers like the superhornet. Not necessarily true. That would be a huge fuselage change - a big undertaking.1 point

I was having some annoying sound problems with win7 64 and my creative x-fi card, after some searching around I gave the 'creative alchemy' software a shot http://connect.creativelabs.com/alchemy/default.aspx and things are working like they used to. I didn't have your exact problem (mine involved hearing external jet sounds in the cockpit sometimes, so loud it blocked out any other sounds, sound sliders didn't seem to work) but I don't think it would hurt to give it a try.1 point

It's a manually self made mix of elements from different Tomcatz works. The base is from "Lock on forever" mod with addictions from "Hangar mod" and "Parkbox mod". The single mods are not compatible toghether so i've merge it manually by editing the appropriate files. Here a walk around at Merzifon AFB..... and again runway, taxyways and parking areas were made by mixing and merging different runway mods often modified in textures by myself1 point

Attack pattern for a training flight posted by a Su-25 pilot Mihail Pavlov aka KUSLIN2 in Russian forums: "The maneuver is called Ромашка = Chamomile. The group does a left climbing turn to 3500 m. The leader of first pair dives and on attack course calls "On attack 360" (attack course) on radio. Immediately the second one goes into a dive. The first one launches and calls "Launch" on radio". The second calls "On attack 255" and the third one goes into a dive etc... The leader of the group finishes the "Chamomile" after the wingman of the second pair. The advantage is that there is constantly one aircraft on the attack course. The disadvantages - this maneuver requires excellent teamwork, following the exact parameters and constantly knowing where the rest 3 aircraft of the group are. This is one of the many maneuvers used on training sorties." http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?...postcount=2081 Table in the upper left corner has names of pilots, callsigns and payload. In the bottom left corner is the formation on route. In the middle is the formation during attack. The bottom right corner indicates targets for each aircraft I believe.1 point

I'm sure we will try to get Servman running in FC2 (if that was your question). But I think with some luck, it will already work right out of the box. Otherwise we will try to make it work.1 point

In the DCS the Ka-50 model is over 100k poly, so if you haven't got a "normal" (not high end) PC, that is your problem...1 point

When I talk about "Arming/Activate the system" I am referring to "Master Arm". JFYI :) Should of been more clear to avoid the confusion of what I am talking about. And of course, I did not think anyone would delve so deep into my post as what I thought was amusing turning into this :( Sorry for the hijacking.1 point

A very nice thread that I'd like to revive - as we will be getting a new model and a new campaign of Su-25. There has been written a lot about different fighter tactics and a lot about using the T-version, but vanilla Su gets often overlooked. I am still strugling with attack profile with Kh-29L, as I can spot buildings only from range of 10 km's after aquiring, firing the missile and waiting for impact I just come in to range of Manpads. Any advice here, are 29Ls viable weapon of the plain Su-25?1 point

Great work! Nevertheless I have some suggestions: 1. Checklist item "Tower" I would prefer to have on the left hand side the actual communication task and on the right hand side the required result from the communication. Because a checklist contains of the items to be checked and the results, but not of advises. The items are: Before startup checklist: startup clearance - received Before taxi checklist: taxi clearance - received Before control hover checklist: control hover clearance - received Before take-off checklist: take off clearance - received Approach checklist: ATC clearance (inbound) - received Before landing checklist: Landing clearance - received 2. Some items are double without good reason for it. You should check all items, if they are done in a previous checklist. For instance: lights. They are checked on in the pre-start check (16 & 19). So in my mind there is no reason to check them again in the pre-taxi-check (5) and pre-takeoff (3). Who should have switched them off when we checked them on before ;) ? Something else is it regarding fence-in! At this point the lights ussually go all off, so they have to be checked when fence-in. The same regardings fence-out the other way around: Beacon usually goes on at this point. In general regarding lights on/off: Beacon: - pre-start -> ON - fence-in: OFF/ fence-out: ON NAV-lights: - pre-start -> as required (only when not under combat conditions they go ON usually! If there is any danger from the enemy they will stay OFF usually!) - fence-in: OFF/ fence-out: as required Blade-Tip-lights: - pre-start -> as required (only when not under combat conditions they go ON usually! If there is any danger from the enemy they will stay OFF usually!) - fence-in: OFF/ fence-out: as required Formation-lights: - pre-start -> as required - fence-in: as required/ fence-out: as required Landing-light: - pre-takeoff -> as required (only when not under combat conditions they go ON usually! If there is any danger from the enemy they will stay OFF usually!) - fence-in: OFF/ fence-out: as required - pre-landing -> as required (only when not under combat conditions they go ON usually! If there is any danger from the enemy they will stay OFF usually!) - aft-landing: OFF 3. Taxi-Checklist Is it better to check collective full down before releasing parking brakes? I think so. So 6 and 7 should be the other way around. That it is for now from my side :) Edit: Lights completed.1 point
