Attached are five new DCS: A-10C Warthog screen shots that show off some of the Nevada range, new squadrons markings, and payload options. This is still very much WIP. We are currently in the process of converting to DX11, so aspects of the game are not looking so great during this transition. After the conversion is done and the game is looking good again, I hope to create the next video note.1 point

I'm working on a little film of my own, and I'm really trying push my editing skills to the max this time. What I have is a scene with a jet flying overhead and away from the viewpoint, then climbing upward and out of the shot. I'm trying to add an exhaust/smoke like effect similar to what you'd see after a sudden power change behind it. Sadly, I don't have the patience to "RTFM", and my brain is already worked enough during the day. Luckily schooling gives me permission to use Sony Vegas and After Effects. When it comes to Vegas, I'm somewhat knowledgeable at making a film "look cool", but I'm absolutely terrible at creating special effects that aren't already part of the film. What can you experts tell me about creating that exhaust effect? I'm not Glowing Amraam. That guy is the real deal. I just need a little tutorial/plugin/tool/probably many other things to give me some cool after effects on top of the footage. I'd be more than happy to give anyone who can help a section in the credit roll :) FEEL the awesome power of what after effects can do:1 point

What are the main differences between a SU-30MK and a SU-30MK2? How are they different than other MK ( i.e. Venezuela, China, India) What is the main role of the Indonesia MK2? Air Defense, Multirole, Strike? What would be the main role of RAAF Super Hornet? How is the RAAF SH different from the USN version? (if at all)1 point

Up to this very day, DirectX 11 has not increased and inch in the compromise Image Quality x Frames per Second. I have a Phenom X4 955 @3.7GHz and a Radeon 5850 @1125 and 775MHz and the drop in FPS you get from switching from DirectX 9 to 11 is simply appalling or mind-boggling to put it better terms, whereas the improvement in image quality is all but noticeable. In areas which are designed having the new API in mind there is significant difference, specially when it comes to tessellation. However, the loss in fps is so dramatic that it's hardly worthwhile. Directx9 has a lot to offer yet, since it has only become truly optimized in the last few years. I really hope this new conversion does not mean they will simply forget about optimizing the game for DirectX 9. I have downloaded the Benchmark demo for Lost Planet 2 yesterday and playing that game in Directx 11 is simply and utterly ridiculous. They just threw tessellation at everything and while I can get pretty and steady 60+ fps with everything maxed out using Directx 9, when I switch to Directx 11 the highest I get is 30 and it does get down to the low teens!!! Considering the work-around ED still uses to render water, I don't even want to see the result with a tessellated "water-world" running under Directx11. If they don't reeeeeally optimize and improve the engine the way it needs to be improved the results will be laughable at best; that considering many of the results the game industry with far better experience with DirectX11 has been delivering. Well, let's wait and see, but I'm definitely not keeping my hopes up. :pilotfly:1 point

Chromewasp, Viper is absolutely right. Helicopters are not easier or harder to fly than fixed wing aircraft. But, they are "different" and require different learned skills, handling techniques and procedures. I have several thousand hours in fixed wing, a pocket full of instructors certificates and still spent about 300 hours learning to fly the Shark competently. I suspect that most here did the same. So, for a low time, or no time computer pilot, this sim has a steep learning curve. But, it can be, and is, done. :book: One other point. A flight simulator is primarily a teaching aid. The key word here is simulator. Its advantage is that you can make mistakes and it won't kill you. With the exception of some multi-million dollar six axis machines, which get darn close, none of them can accurately emulate all of the real flight environment. Get used to it. It is what it is. And this one is very, very good.1 point

I did manage to get it installed myself. I think that my initial problem was that Modman wsn't working properly with 1.02 and was writing to the original .cfg file. However I think the version you are using is the correct one and should work. If I get chance I'll have a look at the .cfg file and post the settings for you to check. Do you get the green check box in Modman when you install the mod... or is it red?1 point

Not really. Your point of view comes mostly from LO experience of magic RWR. The reality is, you NEVER know for sure if there is a missile inbount, unless you actually see it (and no, AMRAAM trail isn't invisible). Hard lock vs TWS makes no difference. In both cases, you are left to guess and assume that there IS a launch.1 point

Moa no worries, I joke only because I know Cat personally lol. No offense taken by Cat I'm sure. I wasn't directing my comments at you just so you know, rather just having fun with the situation! Really no worries at all!1 point

WOW, DX 11!! My hardware is ready. While BS is my aircraft of choice, I will buy A-10 to support ED and to occasionally enjoy the level of fidelity flying A-10.1 point

CAT_101st, I apologise unreservedly. I did not know you had dyslexia. > You should see Cat's missions, we have to fly backwards! Extended 6DOF mod is required just so you accurately fire flying in reverse! LOL! I did not mean to cause offense and I'm very relieved that CAT_101st is philosophical about it. > J/K Cats a good guy and great company real or virtual. Its just not cool to go after grammar on a board anyways! If bad grammar bothers anyone that much the last place they need to be on is a BOARD LOL! I have no doubt Cat's great, and I did not mean to imply otherwise. However, it is a common courtesy to attempt to spell well (unless you have extenuating circumstances like Cat) and the defect density in Cat's post was so high it seemed something wasn't right (usually it is sloth but in Cat's case it is a perfectly legitimate reason). Sometimes a bit of prompting can cause the willing to progressively improve their writing (heaven knows it has helped me), and my intent was for a positive outcome. So, apologies to all for being uncool (honestly, you wouldn't have heard a peep from me if I'd known about Cat's condition). Again, no offence was intended to anyone so I regret any was taken. If you re-read my original post it was meant to be a gentle correction in the hope of improving someone's standards, but clearly I misjudged it as it was mis-interpreted by all who read it. The lesson learnt was by me :) All the best, Moa1 point

Actually, the spelling on "ocrap" is correct, since it's an onomatopoeia. :P That said: Moa, have you heard about dyslexia? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyslexia What is easy for you may not be as easy for others, and I have no issues parsing that type of "mispellings" anyhow in spite of the language being my second. The mispellings are based on the pronounciation, so there's no difficulty. Seriously, there's better things to do on a forum than to be a grammar nazi. That's a dangerous profession: ;)1 point

Final version of the HAS door texture, infact i'm quite happy with the mod work so far. Expect v4.0 package later today, for now i need some sleep :P1 point

@ The OP: Have you tried flying the shark on a FC2 server? They are online-compatible, and working together with other sharks and a few frogs (for example) with fast movers battling it out overhead in the superb missions the community churns out can be quite amazing! Teamspeak makes it even better.1 point

Before Elite on the BBC Microcomputer, the first real sim I played was Spitfire 40 on the C64, followed by Ace of Aces: Not sure of the year they came out, late 80's i'd guess. Then it was on to F16 Combat Pilot and F16 Falcon on the Amiga. http://www.blinkx.com/watch-video/did-1992-amiga-f-16-combat-pilot/g5LsdRX0tMNoa_Bc_44UrQ Happy days! :)1 point

The CH is not for the general audience it is for military costumors. Debby from CH stated that there will be no new sticks for the general market from CH this year. That swayed me for the TM stuff, with regard to being biased, I strongly believe that SimHq wouldn't do a whitepaper for any company (Look at the Whirlwind over Vietnam review), just because someone gets a preview copy of something doesn't mean that the person testing it will be thrilled. I also have no doubt that Matt and several others here would not hesitate to comment on any issue with such a HOTAS. I'm kinda stunned that some people pull the fanboi card... Thrustmaster (Or rather Guillemot entertainment) is a privately owned company, the owners or shareholders are offcourse interested in making a profit and also covering R&D + manufactoring costs, this would include salaries for staff and the likes, that requires a steady cashflow. also many compare it directly to the Cougar, thats ok I guess as long as the ones doing that remembers that the Cougar is a single throttle previous gen joystick.... (Warning bad analogy coming)... Hell a Mosquito can't be more expensive that a Spitfire they both use the Merlin engine! Apples and oranges Staffan1 point
