Super 8mm film from Afghanistan in '04. A lot of A-10A maintenance and a sortie launch at the end, among other things. If you have 12 minutes, please have a look: 2aK8-BHgDsY&feature (A couple of the guys in the film ended up working on the development team for the C mod.) From the description: Super 8mm footage from Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. There is sound (music) at 7:30 and a short video clip after the music stops, if you can watch that far. The film is pretty fogged from six years of improper storage prior to processing and transfer. Oops. Unedited footage at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_ySP5... but there's really not much more to see. I just rearranged it and cut out the indecipherable parts.3 points

starting slowly, this pit is complicated, because i didn't had any answer from ed developers about the templates. i spend hours seaching each litle peace of texture in the origin files. but now, all the hud is new, the front area is also completely rebuild. it will take ages but the result will be great, for sure.:smartass: cheers.1 point

One of the best things of this sim is this board. People are really helpful. --now that I've buttered you up...I've got a noob Q. I'm learning ILS landing as per the tutorial. ...GPS CUD DIVert ...UFC "Func" + "Nav" (2) button Then I suppose I sent the ATC Frequency plus set up the ILS receiver. On the left panel I set it up to 1300.00 which, I suppose, is the ACT frequency. I get this and the ILS receiver confused. --At any rate, on the right panel... I want to set up the radio freq. But have not found the correct radio setting in the manual for that field. Question 1: Is there info on board--perhaps on the UFCD? to guide me to a particular airfield's radio frequency? --the data to be entered on my lower right panel, that is? I wasn't able to contact ATC... Many thanks for the help. I can't remember when something as simple as landing felt so immersive--esp at night. Question 2: I don't see PAPI lights at this and other airfields. --I've seen one at one end of Batumi...but not the other. What happens if I have to land into the wind towards the shore-one day when the wind direction is in the reverse direction? MANY Thanks for the help. Moosh P.S. I'm in Seoul and there are Naval drills off the coast in the West Sea tomorrow... If I don't respond immediately in this thread...it's probably cause artillery fire has taken out my WIFI.:bye_3:1 point

You know the problem: You fly a mission and the default countermeasure programs are not proper for the mission (task) or you don't like them. You have to change the presets or create new programs. But in both situations, you have to do this in every start up sequence or respawn. Finally, I found the file in which the default programs are stored. an_ale40v_params.lua "\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Beta\Scripts\Aircrafts\A-10C\Cockpit\AN_ALE40V\device\an_ale40v_params.lua" programs = {} -- Old generation radar SAM programs['A'] = {} programs['A']["chaff"] = 2 programs['A']["flare"] = 0 programs['A']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['A']["cycle"] = 5 -- Current generation radar SAM programs['B'] = {} programs['B']["chaff"] = 4 programs['B']["flare"] = 0 programs['B']["intv"] = 0.5 programs['B']["cycle"] = 5 -- IR SAM programs['C'] = {} programs['C']["chaff"] = 0 programs['C']["flare"] = 4 programs['C']["intv"] = 0.5 programs['C']["cycle"] = 5 -- Default manual presets -- Mix 1 programs['D'] = {} programs['D']["chaff"] = 1 programs['D']["flare"] = 2 programs['D']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['D']["cycle"] = 3 -- Mix 2 programs['E'] = {} programs['E']["chaff"] = 2 programs['E']["flare"] = 2 programs['E']["intv"] = 0.5 programs['E']["cycle"] = 8 -- Mix 3 programs['F'] = {} programs['F']["chaff"] = 4 programs['F']["flare"] = 4 programs['F']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['F']["cycle"] = 10 -- Mix 4 programs['G'] = {} programs['G']["chaff"] = 4 programs['G']["flare"] = 4 programs['G']["intv"] = 0.5 programs['G']["cycle"] = 10 -- Chaff single programs['H'] = {} programs['H']["chaff"] = 1 programs['H']["flare"] = 0 programs['H']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['H']["cycle"] = 1 -- Chaff pair programs['I'] = {} programs['I']["chaff"] = 2 programs['I']["flare"] = 0 programs['I']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['I']["cycle"] = 1 -- Flare single programs['J'] = {} programs['J']["chaff"] = 0 programs['J']["flare"] = 1 programs['J']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['J']["cycle"] = 1 -- Flare pair programs['K'] = {} programs['K']["chaff"] = 0 programs['K']["flare"] = 2 programs['K']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['K']["cycle"] = 1 -- Chaff pre-empt programs['L'] = {} programs['L']["chaff"] = 1 programs['L']["flare"] = 0 programs['L']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['L']["cycle"] = 20 -- Flare pre-empt programs['M'] = {} programs['M']["chaff"] = 0 programs['M']["flare"] = 1 programs['M']["intv"] = 1.0 programs['M']["cycle"] = 20 -- N Test Programm programs['N'] = {} programs['N']["chaff"] = 6 programs['N']["flare"] = 6 programs['N']["intv"] = 1.5 programs['N']["cycle"] = 13 need_to_be_closed = true -- lua_state will be closed in post_initialize() Presets are available from A-M. Here is my own: program N. NOTE: If you change default programs or create new programs, keep the CMS limitations in mind! Interval: Inputs in 0.25 sec. steps from 0.25 to 5 seconds. Cycle: Valid inputs from 1 to 99. Advantages: - Change default programs (faster as in cockpit) - Create new programs N-Z (faster as in cockpit) - Permanent stored and loaded at every start up/ respawn Hope, that helps anyone. kind regards, Fire1 point

WOW! I got bored and wen't into the editor, where I saw "F-15E" as an aircraft option. I thought "hmm, never seen this one before" and set up a simple route with 9 t-72s and a strela that I programmed the thing to attack with Mavs and LGBs. I started the mission, and the first thing I thought when I saw the model with A sniper XR loaded underneath it was " I am going to kill ED if they do not make this next!" ( I know you won't, just exaggerating :) ) like seriously! I peeked into the engine turbines and found detailed fans spinning on both ends!I then watched the thing take out a strela and a t-72, then turn to a base without emptying its LGBs which I barely noticed because I was so addicted to the model. Then I wanted to see the damage on this thing so I put a route over a SA-15 TOR, and then after the missile hit, I watched the wing shred and the pilots eject, and while it was spiraling towards the ground, I saw the wing shred even further, and the nose cone flew off, revealing a beautiful radar, then finally, the crash. W-O-W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 point

Because your SPI was your steerpoint. The best indicator of what sensor is determining SPI location is the HUD text in the lower-left corner. With TGP as SOI you press TMS Fwd Long to set SPI to TGP LOS. Then you can slave all weapons to SPI. Using a mark point is unnecessary to the process unless you want to make a waypoint at the SPI for some reason.1 point

It's been mentioned before, but the correct translation of the "INU - UPDATE" switch on the PVI Aux panel is actually "I-251V - FLY-OVER" (original Russian: "И-251В - ПРОЛ")1 point

Compliments to your aviation procedures. Before I get to the main issue a couple of notes: 1. When ABRIS displays 45°46'30'' the PVI should be given the coordinate 045°46.5' and not 46.3. By default the ABRIS displays in the format DD°MM'SS'' while the PVI works in the format DD°MM.M'. Your coordinates will be off in position up to 40'' otherwise. There's an option in the ABRIS to change the coordinate format and there is a LUA edit to make this option selected by default. 2. Binding the keyboard numpad to the PVI panel has sped up the data entry process for me a lot. Num7=1, Num8=2, Num9=3, Num_/=WPT, etc. Also my 6 and 8 keys are set to rotate the ABIRS knob with 7 being the press in. Should make things faster. Now on to the main event: What's odd about your experience is that you loaded from file a mission that had no waypoints. As such the waypoint sequence was not defined. If you had 6 waypoints in the ME/MP flight plan that you subsequently changed then the sequence would have been defined as 1-2-3-4-5-6. Reference manual page 10-27 "Changing WP sequence in flight." This is how one specifies the waypoint sequence order. It can be 1-5-3-4 if you care to make it this. EDIT: Yup, taking control in your track and performing the waypoint sequencing procedure gives desired results.1 point

Wellllll.... 169th Panthers/couple squad members = 3Sqn 169th Panthers/more squad members = 104th 169th Panthers/rest of 169th Panthers = Cannot divide by 0 Ice has been banned for doing something or another. Cali is now a member of 3Sqn. Pretty much everyone moved on to FC2. So if you are looking for FC1.12 you won't find much. There are also plenty of good severs within the FC2 community, each a little different and unique in their mission design.1 point

I agree. Honestly its the stuff that you can look back through FC2>Black Shark > FC1.12> Lockon 1.0 and then realize that little if anything has changed with it over all that time. Fire and Smoke, always the same height, always the same intensity, always blowing in the same direction based on wind. There is no "life" to the fire its just a constant stream of flames. Fine we are getting a new weather system, at least its a new system to simulate wind. We don't know if that means it will be cloudy at one end of the map and nice on another, nor if the conditions are right that its foggy in the mourning and clears up as it gets warmer. Hell, will the ambient temperature even change over time? The only other thing I dislike is its becoming more and more apparent where the "old" map is. All of the new airbases are getting a nice quality treatment of the ILS lights, new textures, and just nice little details. Guduata is the only old base from the Lockon days to get a make-over.1 point

I get what the original poster is saying. The explosions are weak and unrealistic because they dissapate too fast, but I attributed that to the sim being a beta. Fire and smoke is not bad but could be randomized some to have hot smoke cool smoke; ie black, grey, or white smoke. The mav flash is too white and the shock wave needs to have the alpha reduced, but again I'm assuming optimization hasn't occured. Either way, this is an awesome sim!!! :)1 point

Having grown up with the first of flightsims that were available, I've always been dreaming about flying a simulator in a believable virtual environment. When I flew the A-10C simulator for the first time it felt like that dream finally came true. For me personally, I do not need better graphics then the level currently in place. Some effects, like clouds and indeed explosions could be better but for me the overall engine is more then enough. I rather have more airplanes, better AI, better mission planner and so on then better graphics. As most people here, I've put up with a lot of imagination in the past, including imagining a green wireframe box on a black background was a T-72 speeding across the terrain, firing shells at blufor tanks with dust kicking up behind it, muzzle flashes, engine sounds, you name it. Check this: http://stiggyblog.wordpress.com/2009/07/11/old-flight-simulator-games/ then think green monochrome monitor. Yes these are not modern flightsims but since we are comparing DCS to wings of prey and air assault, the comparison was flawed anyways ;)1 point

I have also been giving this some thought and I am very intrigued with this mission generator tool. In fact I thought I would use the generator to create a few dozen missions with front battleline action set in one general area, and edit them a little, and that would be one level of the campaign. And then build/generate a few dozen more with the front lines having shifted etc. Save them, put them in a folder, and keep generating for each level of the campaign. Each one can get maybe just a few minutes of 'personal touch' if the user chooses, or just a few of them, maybe, but for the most part they are 'assembly line production' missions -- no different than making your own campaign by hand, just automating the production process if you will. But from what I can see, the mission generator gives you just a basic 'go bomb bad guys' mission template, with out specific tactical goals. It's cool, it creates a fun environment to fly/fight in, gives you a set of waypoints, but that is about it. Looking at the missions in the ME, really I don't see even how it scores the outcome -- there do not appear to be any winners or losers. So I am wondering if the actual template of the mission generator can be altered to include a little more, say some triggers and actions and goals, etc? Can there be more than one of these templates? For example, can we have a BAI missoin template, can we have a CSAR mission template, can we have a CAS (defending some friendly units on the move)...., so that we aren't essentially flying the same mission each time, in a different location with different participants? I realize this is very different from what you are describing, which would be even more cool. But even with what we have now, I thinking maybe this generator thing might have a lot of utility if this can be accomplished. Ripcord1 point

According to the research I did back when making the Triple Ejector Rack Mod, you can't load AGM-65K's on the triple rails so 2 K's would be the maximum. These mavericks are too heavy for the triple rails. Usually 4 AMG-65D's is the maximum loaded. Also I read something about the inner mavericks having a nasty habit of toasting the paintjob when launched. Remember the more weight you put on the A-10, the less you'll be able to maneuver and counter any kind of threat. Flying light is realistic.1 point

ServMan Server Management Mod v1 for DCS:BS v1.0 This mod allows you to run Black Shark as what I call a "pseudo-dedicated server". It is a purely serverside mod that enables a chat based interface and gives server hosts and players additional options to control the server. So far the mod offers the following main functions (most of which can be customized by the host): Features included in v1 Server host functions - automatic kicking for teamkills (human and AI) - automatic kicking for too low score - penalty time after kick - automatic banning after too many kicks - banning single IPs and whole IP ranges - automatic mission restarting or rotating - remote masterbanlist that can be downloaded from a webserver via http - extended event logging including a chatlog - message of the day and server rules Subadmin functions - appointing trusted players as subadmins (accounts are password-protected) - subadmins can manually kick or ban players - subadmins can manually load missions - subadmins can (un-)lock the server Player functions - players can start votekicks - players can start missionvotes to load a specific mission - players can start missionpolls to let everybody vote for their favorite mission The dedicated mod thread with download links and aditional information is here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=40143 Acedy :)1 point
