  1. I think it is unjustified to maintain the argument that "simplicity of an aircraft breeds simple combat." Red Flags, ATC weekends, and ACM training within my own squad are evidence of the complexities, nuances, and strategy that are not mutually exclusive to DCS or FC2. And guess what, until the interface and organization of multiplayer changes, it will still be 'airquake'. Just because there is an added time penalty to being shot down and starting up the aircraft does not change anything. At its core it will still be airquake, if anything 'slightly slower' airquake. I think as long as MP is limited to "pick a coalition, pick an aircraft, hit fly" gameplay, nothing will change. Sure private games will have an elevated level of coordination and teamwork, but haven't they always? All I know is if the GUI and organization of MP doesn't change between now and DCS: Fighter I'm going to savor the moment when I see a thread complaining about the airquake in DCS. because as long as its basically team deathmatch that is what it will remain.

  2. Hi all, I feel that the price tag of $60.00 is expensive especially with the current financial climate. This, I believe will prevent many people from buying. I propose that the price should be cut by 50% to $30.00, which in my opinion would actually generate more users and more profit for the company at the end of the day. What does everyone else think? thanks Darren

  3. Spot on. Ofcourse DCS fastjet will result in airquake, im sure A-10 will pan out in a similair fashion to Ka50 only on a larger scale which will only make it more apparent, 30 A-10's buzzing around a server, only a few actually communicating, shooting static targets, yep thats hardcore. Don't tell me just because someone has more buttons to press he suddenly becomes immune to airquake, you will always get those that want to go Rambo, that comes with the territory of having easy online access to servers. Servers as always will for a big part will be uncoordinated messes of take off kill some s###/or die, go home/respawn and do it again. The only workaround on this is to have servers with dedicated players only, that happens already. The FC2 community for a large part is the DCS community (except those that don't own/want the other sim). Splitting what is already a very limited resource of dedicated teamplayers can only be a bad thing. The only downside that is with a merge is the time constraint and if that is ED's main worry then it shouldn't happen.

  7. What? Are you crazy? The first post you make is complaining about how much it costs? ED could easily sell this product for twice the money. This is an expensive hobby. If you can't afford it, then quit complaining.

  8. i would pay 1.5 the actuall price easely. And if crap stuff like COD can ask 60 for changes in some pixel you got to be kidding. These (DCS) will will last much more than the more of the same FPS average couple of month you ll get out there.

  10. You know GG, I don't even bother reading your stuff anymore. Your company is really hard headed and this is what pisses people off. Ever heard the saying "The customer is always right"? Funny how you had no problem mounting Kh-25s when I have never seen a single pic of them on a copter. Since your obviously not going to even think about things, would your company please tell us which files we need to mod to bring this in? I am definitely tired of being shot down by cheating air AI, and my only chance against them is Igla's or R-73s. @Speed - Thanks for the nice, reasonable post. As for where to mount, I see no reason Iglas couldn't be mounted on the inner ports. R-73's might have to be mounted on the outer, because of their exhaust. Kind of like Kh-25s. Not really sure how exhaust would effect the engines. However, Iglas look like they have no more exhaust than any unguided rocket.

  12. I think people often get confused with the fidelity of the sim, which implies a high standard of quality, and the nature of it's beta and release cycle. The sim itself is not the problem, nor is it general development process. In fact I find that side of it pretty impressive. The problem is that it was released prematurely without the necessary checks and level of testing required to ensure qualification for release. Now before I get drawn and quartered and the hounds of hell are released I'll point out this isn't a personal attack or an opinion borne from frustration. Just an observation of reality that I've had to often go through myself. I've worked for years, as I suspect a number here have too, in the Design and Engineering field. Here it is Beta, for us it is called prototyping. You go through a number of prototype phases; testing fixes, developing functionality, identifying negatively affected areas whether due to those fixes or issues that were previously masked. Prototype after prototype (Beta after Beta) refining the design. You then enter the Production Prototype phase (Release Candidate). This is where you demonstrate the quality and functionality of a production example. This is where the actual design is qualified for production. This is where the buck stops. If there is a f*ckup here, then you better catch it and fix it before it goes into serial production. If the problem is big enough here, it ceases being a Production Prototype (RC) and becomes just another normal prototype (Beta) step. Typically in my experience if I let a major issue go through to the wicket keeper and allow a significant issue to exist in the serial production (Final Release), I would lose my job. It was in my contract. As head engineer (Producer) It was my responsibility to ensure Quality Control was functional and up to standard. If this proved untenable, either due to the owners decision, or more often because of pressure from financial sources like Venture Capital (Bastards) then I have them agree to and sign a letter of liabilty recognising the inherent risks of skipping phases and/or quality control testing and preventing them looking at me to recover costs. This is not a criticism at ED, nor am I trolling the thread. I'm just pointing out that design development can be an extremely rewarding and also devastatingly heart breaking process. Many people in this sort of field love what they do and put a lot of personal stock into the project. It can be very sad to see things outside your control interfere with it. Sometimes decisions are made that appear irrational from the outside, but without all of the relevant facts to appreciate there is not much else to infer from it. But as this is a free market, if you don't like what has happend here then voice your concerns to ED loud and clear. If the signal to noise is high enough then I'm sure the sentiment will be passed onto the responsible parties. Some here may find the thought of this reprehensable, but in fact to remain silent when you have an opinion to express, then your silence is reprehensible. If you care about what ED is trying to achieve here then they must be willing to accept thoughtful criticism as well as praise. Disagreement is fine, rudeness is not.

  13. And this is why you have few customers. This whole post could have been a lot more pleasant if the mods and the fanboys would learn some manners, and not give snobby little remarks when being politely asked a question. Not ignoring the wishes of your customers, over and over. Nothing was being demanded. This is why people off the board have a bad opinion of DCS and its community. And I'm getting there.

  14. I also loved the GCI weekend. Flying the Su-25t all the time, and the added GCI makes you so much aware off all the things going on around you. Also makes it feel more "real". A flight of me looked about like this: - Taking off - Get an anchor location assigned around friendly SAM units until your escort is arriving -Fly to the tatget area with the escort in the neighborhood -Anchor again while escort is is clearing a path -ingress further and attack ground units. -Getting constant updates of enemy and friendly fighters. -Being assigned a task to take out some choppers (didn't succeed) -Get the hell out of combat area because enemey fighters are breaking through. - RTB with fighter coverage. - Land for fuel weapons and clean underwear :)

  17. Well, I finally did it...I've got some savings as as I'm still young(ish) and living with mummy, I have decided to put my money into flying. Also, I've got a part time job close to my home so I can fund my training. Anyway..My plan is, 4 days a week at a job and 2 days flying, with 80% of my income going toward flying qualifications...I know it seems a bit OTT to have such a sudden change of career but it's something I've been passionate about my whole life. So, now I've justified my impulsive actions (mainly to myself and to be justified to my girlfriend later this evening) I am looking for advice. Basically, it'll take a few years training to start as a paid instructor, and there are numerous ground school exams..to any pilots out there, how hot will my mathematics need to be? Basically, I am useless at maths and as such will need to practise - how much is used in general light aviation? Secondly...Is there any software (i.e fsx etc) that will realistically improve or support my real world flying? even if it just supports my theory and ground school.. Any advice appreciated, as long as it doesn't tell me to call my boss and beg for my old office job back... Cheers all, Con

  18. I can't understand what is your problem. I did a fresh installs of A-10C b4 and A-10C release to the Win 7 64 and gaging a time. After several tests I can confidently say that a load time in beta 4 and release is the same. System: Core 2 Duo E8500, 4 Gb DDRII, NV GTX480. Loading GUI - 13 sec in the both cases. Loading Options window - 4 sec in the both cases.

  22. I agree that the argument “But the Ka-50 doesn’t carry air to air missiles!!” is a irrelevant and misses the point. The question is not whether the Ka-50 carries air to air missiles; the question is whether the Ka-50 can carry air to air missiles. There seems to be conflicting information on this. Personally, I’m going to believe that ED has the more correct information on this issue, as they had contact with Kamov. Just because there are buttons and switches in the Ka-50 dealing with air to air ordinance does not mean that they finished implementing this possibility on the Ka-50. This was the Soviet Union, and then a cash-starved Russian military. Quite possibly, they were planning on having A2A capability, and so installed the cockpit switches, but then the funding and motivation disappeared to finish the job. It’s not a clear-cut case though, as there is another side to the argument. Depending on how “finished” the implementation of A2A weapons was on the real Ka-50, the Russian military might be able to rapidly finish implementing them (if they truly did not already) should the need for A2A weapons arise. If that is the case, then it is actually more realistic to have air to air weapons in some of these missions where we find ourselves up against enemy helos. I don’t care what others might say about “fighters provide air cover”… that is an ideal scenario and war does not follow your ideal scenarios. Sorry. It doesn’t. Stop day-dreaming about the fighter cover that for whatever reason, will NOT always be there. It’s really all a bunch of BS, with no hard info. Overall, I’m going to trust ED with this one, but you never know… I do have a question though, where had they planned on putting the A2A missiles on the Ka-50? If it was in place of Vikhrs, then I can’t see how they ever would do it, even in the scenario I described in paragraph 2 of this post.

  26. Don't think the hydraulic and oil pressure issues are a bug. You're frying your systems out with hot starts. It should state in your checklists that you must wait until engine ITT gauges read less than 150c before attempting start up. If you hit the ramp and shut down without letting the engines cool a bit, you're temp will shoot up to 600-800 after shutdown. It then takes 14minutes for the engines to cool to a decent temp to restart. If you land and idle for two minutes before shutdown, they only push up to around 400c and it takes less than 5min to cool them to 150c. Also, be aware that I've seen a lot of people use the APU generator on restart with ground power on. That's bad juju. The ground power is primary bus. Here's my turnaround method: *After landing and taxi, idle engines for 2-3minutes - not a bad time to rearm/refuel *Ask for ground power *Make no changes to switches or configs, as they'll stay with ground power *Shut down engines *Wait three minutes for repairs to occur *Wait additional time for engines to cool below 150c on the ITT indicator *While waiting the 5 to 6 minutes I'll -Get more scotch -Do self debrief to figure better tactics against last sortie -Plug sitNess into TAD -Find wife for quick slap and tickle *After temps are good and repairs are complete start up APU (no no touch apu gen) *Start up engines *Shut down APU *Check Stat page on LMFD *Remove ground power while watching stat page *Take off *pwn

  30. Yup partially it would be great to transform Su-25A\T to DCS, but IMHO the best would be compatibility between DCS and FC. BS was merged to FC by one of reasons you fight against AI only. In A-10C will be exactly same. Giving compatibility to FC you raise your immersion - not only taking off alone or with next two Hogs, killing 10 tanks with two hogs and returning to base with two hogs. Repeat that to the death till next DCS fighter comes. Those who scare *they have more buttons to click than others* wouldn't be forced to play on that server - would they? Can play on DCS only.

  31. Just noticed tonight (I think it may have been mentioned in a different thread). 1) I have had success in getting the JTAC data by making sure my Unit ID = 01 and my Group ID = 01. 2) What I had read somewhere was that the UnitID & GroupID gets reset when you take off....but that may not be correct. During a campaign mission tonight it reset the moment when my WINGMAN took off. so....make sure you have your IDs set to 01 AND all of your flight has taken off before you contact JTAC.

  32. Glad you like it. One advice I can give you is : read the manual carefully. It will explain in detail the difference with SOI, SPI, all the HOTAS function and much more. It'll be really easy after to remember the keyboard shortcuts, as you'll know wich does what. PS: If you take the time, you'll have great pride of yourself for mastering a near 100% simulator of a real A-10

  40. As an 8000+ hour jet pilot, having followed flight simulation since the mid 80s, I can attest this is the most accurate flight model I've flown on a PC. The sound, graphics, detail and "feel" very closely replicate the sensation of flight. You folks at ED have really outdone yourselves. Congrats! Looking forward to learning this airplane and can't wait for your next creation!

  44. You're at the edge of functional angels in TIR. You can 1) readjust your clip/hat so that it is pointed a few degrees more upward and re-center. This way when you are looking down, the angles on TIR aren't so oblique (and you really ought not have to spend much time looking straight up anyway). 2) when you center TIR lean forward an inch or two. When you sit back after centering you will find your virtual ass a few inches back in the seat and it makes it easier to see the radios. 3) reposition your TIR camera, maybe on your desk instead of on top of the monitor.
