I don't have an issue with delays. Things happen during development and I'd rather have a finished, polished product than something rushed out to meet release expectations. That being said, I had sworn off pre-ordering any game or product due to previous let downs in the gaming industry. I broke that oath by pre-ordering the F-4. I'm okay with the delay so far, but if we go past 6 months on a pre-order then I will likely never do it again for a DCS module.8 points

That depends entirely on the module/developer and how much information has been previously forthcoming and what has been stated by the devs. I haven't seen any bickering about release dates for any of the new modules announced in 2022. Even the A-7 which was announced earlier than those has had no bickering about a release date. The main difference I see is that none of those developers have ever really said anything about possible release dates. None of them have ever said things like, "It's releasing this year" or "It's releasing this _insert season_", they've just kept pretty silent and when they do share stuff it's greatly appreciated like Flying Iron's huge writeups at the end of each year. We know software development is subject to random delays and the devs know that too. It also helps that these dev teams are keeping a relatively low profile so the only people that really pay attention or remember they exist are the people who are excited for the aircraft they are making and are interested in discussing it with likeminded individuals. Yet we see some devs time and time again set release windows and then invariably fail to meet those self imposed deadlines. The F-15E was supposed to release at the end of 2022/beginning of 2023 and Razbam (and ED) kept saying stuff like "soon" and "imminent" yet it still took half the year to release. The F-4 was set to release in 2022. Stuff happened and it was delayed. Then in 2023 there was another big push around Heatblur modules with the announcement that the A-6 AI would release during the summer. Since that is locked behind the F-4 due to resources as HB have admitted, that means the F-4 was planned to release sometime in the first half of 2023. Summer came and went with no further information on either the F-4 or the A-6 AI. And then if we go back just a little bit further, I belive there was a comment made by Cobra on Facebook that the A-6 AI and Early F-14A would release towards the end of Summer 2021. I guess if you say "it'll release by then" enough times you're bound to be right eventually. We can't keep blaming Ukraine for all this stuff because Heatblur has said that the war only cost them around 6 months of dev time. Scope creep and bugs likely account for rest of the lost time. We get it, the war and personal issues caused a delay, they didn't however cause the delays all on their own. And then we come to the likely further delay of the F-4 causing Heatblur to miss their Winter deadline. Yes, I am well aware that they have said "We're still on track for our timeframe." but remember, they said the exact same thing in October of 2022. That was well after the war in Ukraine started, they should have known by then that they weren't gonna make it. Took them till late January 2023 to even acknowledge the obvious delay. The last 2 weeks have had no Phantom Friday anything. We've had 2 videos released recently that basically just discuss development features, nothing about actual flying, weapons employment, systems, cold start, etc. They have 10 days left until winter 23-24 ends on the spring equinox. Without these videos and with no release date yet on Steam to allow those users to preorder, it is highly likely we see yet another delay. I'm sure the delay will let the module release in a better state, but it seems like they're trying to avoid admitting there will be a delay to the last possible second despite also saying they would let us know as soon as there is a delay. I'm tired of seeing release windows for things I'm excited for being either outright stated or implied by the devs and then missed, usually with little to no acknowledgment of the delay. I don't have any problems with devs not giving a release date. However, if they aren't going to give one, I don't want to hear them make release speculations, which create expectations that then fail to happen. They need to have better internal communication and maybe a dedicated media person to prevent miscommunications such as the recent "announcement for the announcment of the F-4 release date announcment" that turned out to be not even be an accurate statement as to what was planned. Sometimes no communication other than "we're still here working on it", is the best way to go about things. The community will speculate regardless, so there's no reason for the devs to do it too.7 points

The big difference between all the others and HB or RB is that they announce the soon to release products and start selling them. That makes me think that it’s close, it’s sorted out and they are just wrapping up the last bits and pieces. But no. It seems like you can sell a product that is far from finished with no clue on when it’ll be good enough. I don’t mind they using five years developing something. If they want my money, they should ask for development support, investment in the company or something. Rather than selling a something that we are trying to make but it takes a long time and just stick with us because it’s going to be cool sometime thing.5 points

I never said to use the paddle or not, so I was not gatekeeping. I was merely pointing out that performance using the paddle is not realistic, but rather a gaming technique.5 points

Someone needs to remember that ED has the final say on a "release." Third parties have no control over them. If the module doesn't get a "sign-off" from the QA team, any "release date" will be forgotten, fixing whatever needs to be fixed, and it will need to be rescheduled for another round of QA, and only when they have the test, will it be prepared. for release in a future patch.4 points

It's called the Thrust Control Lever in the Chinook, not the collective. This is because the cyclic can also collectively change the pitch in the fore/aft blades. Yes, you have to hold the trigger to move the Thrust lever up or down.4 points

DCS: Marianas World War II To support the DCS: F6F Hellcat and other PTO aircraft and units coming to DCS, we have been adapting the current Marianas for the past year and into 2024. The map is based on painstakingly researched documents, photos, and accounts of the Mariana Islands in the summer of 1944, at the time of the Battle of the Marianas between the United States and Imperial Japan. This will be a free map that leverages our latest TDK for improved performance and realism.3 points

After reading through Chuck's Guide for the F-16 for the millionth time, I noticed some unknown-to-me, easy-to-miss HOTAS shortcuts. Here are a few of my favourites in terms of interesting/unique; some discovered today, some in the last few weeks. On the FCR, TMS Right Long will change between RWS and TWS submodes of CRM On the FCR, 'Transmit Switch - IFF IN (INBOARD)' (Short) will cycle the different filter options (All vs No Datalink Tracks, etc) On the FCR, 'Transmit Switch - IFF OUT (OUTBOARD) (Short) will remove datalink tracks (can then use the above to return them) In DGFT mode with HOB missiles equipped and the default settings, holding the 'Radar Cursor/Enable Switch' will slave the HOB seeker to your HMCS so you can point at off-bore targets with your head and fire, without having to go in and change slave modes just for that - it's a nice temporary switch, after which the seeker goes back to being slaved to radar lock Press the 'Radar/Cursor Enable Switch' in A2G to change firing modes for e.g. Mavericks, to quickly swap VIS/PRE/etc What are some interesting HOTAS shortcuts and related information that you've found, that you think other players have possibly overlooked? (Side-note; if anyone knows how to change the number of bars [the actual height, not elevation or azimuth] of the radar scan volume using the HOTAS and not the OSB/MFD buttons, let me know!)3 points

Alright, resolved. I think it has to do with settings on my main windows profile. I use it for work, and remembered that we got some security software on it that has made games like Starfield not run well. So I went into a different windows profile I have for Starfield, and DCS booted up!! Thanks everyone for your help, I appreciate it.3 points

for the record Meta warned none of the content creators or developers for their platform, hence why when v63 went live, 75% of their own oculus library was broken, the other 25% are titles that are owned by Meta and were updated w/ v63. It was a end of dev cycle change in the v63 development cycle, a change they introduced w/ no announcement, they expect everyone to develop and release patches within 3 weeks of their update going to preview. That's the problem with Meta since Facebook officially took over operations from the old Oculus staff, they think they run the internet, they expected every content creator and developer for the platform to Update their software on their schedule.3 points

It's been stated more than once that they are not going down the road of attempting to add all the random weapons and systems foreign users grafted onto their Phantoms, just the same as the random weapons that have been hung on Tomcats over the decades.3 points

No problem. I've reached out to ED regarding help with development. They have a team of SME's already, but we'll see. The Thrust Mag Brake Trigger just disengages the Thrust Mag Brake that holds the thrust lever in place. When you want to increase/decrease thrust, squeeze the trigger and pull the lever up or push it down. Release the trigger and the thrust lever will stay where you released it. The mag break has a clutch that can be slipped with somewhere between 7 and 23lbs of force in the event of a failure of the mag brake. DAFCS is a bit complex to explain here, but stands for Digital Automatic Flight Control System. Has a ton of features, but in summary you can use ALT modes to capture current Inertial Altitude or Radar Altitude, DECEL mode to slow the aircraft to a hover from 65K ground speed (switches to POS mode which captures and locks in a perfect hover), DESCENT mode with DECEL mode to initiate a descent/decel to a hover, etc. Tons of functionality.3 points

Hello, I must confess I'm very supprised by this answer. Meta has pushed its v63 update into production now, and anyone like me who hasn't been paying attention to this sneaky update can no longer fly on DCS. This problem has already been reported during its beta phase, how can the ED team not take this problem very seriously. The people who are going to break down are going to increase your numbers massively, and what's more, the Quest is probably the most widely used VR headset in the majority of VR simmers. So a tell back leaves me very dubious. It's more than a priority when an update renders the game completely inoperable.3 points

Hi Devs. Can you please consider adding a FARP like static but a Runway to be able to place in Mission Editor. Three types would be great. -A dirt Strip with parking -A Marsden Mat Strip with parking (Similair to South Atlantic San Carlos FOB) -A single Bitumen strip capable of taking a fast jet such as M2000C and similar with a small apron. This will enable Mission creators to "hide" expeditionary bases in some of the maps with large open areas such as Syria, Persian Gulf etc.2 points

Though it doesn't address your initial issue, if you jettison the stores that are now missing on that wing, the aircraft will get back in sync and will automatically step through the available missiles.2 points

Hey CH, would it be possible to add the Vulcano shell for the PzH2000? It's a GPS guided artillery shell kinda like the Excalibur but it adds terminal Laser or IR guidance oh i also found some information regarding the radar cross section of 155mm shells2 points

Hello Rudel_chw! I won't be understood. The error only occurred with my edited textures. The affected textures are opened with PS without editing and saved again under "Save file as" with the selection dds. Nothing more is necessary. The normals I changed in the texture folder are also corrupted.2 points

To me the biggest problem is the outdated filter entries, dating back to probably DCS 1.x. The version-related filtering in general needs to be reviewed completely. It makes very little sense to have a version filter while having a user file being visible only after the filter is set to the version the uploader set specifically at the time of uploading.2 points

All the rest of you guys only need one of these to be ready for release! I got mine! You should look at this thread, at the end. My PRECIOUS!2 points

Folks please stay on topic in the thread, as we have already mentioned the issue is v63 meta software creating the issue with DCS, we have a fix for the next patch but I can not say when that will be at this time. Current work arounds include using the native oculus in the first post, or using the steamVR work around posted by Jaghammer in this thread. thank you2 points

This is exactly what I went through yesterday. My normal routine; flash up the PC, click on DCS, put on headset, fly campaign mission, land and shut down, go back to Honey-do list for "She who shall be obeyed". Suddenly DCS starts crashing on boot up. To be honest, I figured it was DCS at first, so I fiddled around a bit. I was worried of screwing up my progress or the sim itself, so I didn't mess with much. To see if it was my oculus, I used the updater to start with VR off, and was happy to see at least DCS worked. Then I thought of the forums "I wonder if it is not just me" Happy to see it isn't, but pissed that some people think I should be following DCS forums or Oculus forums daily so that if there is some kind of an update to either I can be forewarned to go into program files and start re-writing folders to prevent automatic updates. ""surprised in this day in age people don't know how to do that" Really?? I do love DCS and its community. As a retired naval flight officer I enjoy learning weapons and systems and tactics. Takes me back to my numerous warfare courses through my career. But if DCS or Oculus are not working to fix this, I will not give up on DCS. I want to keep flying, so what VR system should I now be running to the store to buy? Apologies for the rant ... Hopefully this us fixed before my beloved Phantom shows up. I'll be seriously pissed if she stays in the chocks waiting patiently for my ham-fists to get her into the realm in which she belongs ..... Yours Aye!2 points

While not a bad assumption to make, 'most likely' is doing far too much heavy lifting in this sentence for it to be something up to ED's standards.2 points

Unfortunately v63 is already released- it's now the current version, so basically everyone who doesn't have that very technical work around to prevent the update will find dcs doesn't work........given that I setup my whole pc and station, including choosing the quest2 , to play dcs, I'm really very annoyed. Not good enough to just rule out all oculus users....cash back for all the modules I've bought???!!2 points
