Literally not at all what they were getting at. An XP and unlock system would not only divert resources from other developmental needs, but it would not be terribly welcomed by most of the playerbase. Not everyone wants to play in simple, competitive match ups. Almost everyone comes to DCS to play with complex systems and fly these things on missions approaching a realistic setting. This is more akin to classic sims, like Falcon 4.0 and IL-2 '46. It gives you all the tools, you learn them, you play the missions it comes with, then you have a mission editor to make your own. Also, a flight sim has done the whole unlock thing. When IL-2 BoS put weapons liveries, and modifications behind XP walls, everyone hated it. So, they stopped it. If you need unlocks to justify sticking with a game and not the actual experience of the game? You need to ask yourself if you're really enjoying it and finding something that is actually going to keep your attention and deserve your money. Sure, developers need to "move with the times" but what if the standards include predatory and unfair practices towards the consumer? As for imagining having a skin sharing website? Imagine no more: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/type-is-skin/apply/11 points

Amen brother! If I want to grind, I'll go to work. I'm here to fly.9 points

That's not what I said. I think that the FC aircraft are important. Its the first module I bought. But using xp to unlock assets does not fit DCS in my opinion. Era specific FC modules would be good. e.g. FC cold war, FC modern and FC WW2.9 points

The whole content creators getting it I feel is just frustrating, as it was with the F15E. I can muddle my way through a start up myself instead of watching some guy named potato banger or something, as always, muddle through it all even worse. If it's good enough for a content creator, it's good enough for customers.9 points

This is not what DCS is about. It's a sim and this would make it an arcade game.9 points

That DCS lacks credits and XP is good. This is part of why DCS is better than other games. Credits and XP are just a bandaid to hide that your game isn't fun to play. If a game is good you play it out of enjoyment. Grinding is not fun, it's a waste of development resources, and it often leads to overpriced content. DCS is fine as it is. This is nothing about moving with the times. It's about destroying what DCS is and make it a generic and dull product. If you want daily missions, DCS can do better than something like assigning a random and what I'd consider predicable and meaningless objective to fulfill day after day. DCS will have a DC at some point to give you actual missions to do. Today it has the ME and online servers which are dynamic. If anything I'd want games in general to move toward the way DCS does things. It's so much better. From reading you post it does seem that you like having a to do list in games. I guess DCS could include some guidance for players unsure of what to do, though none of that requires XP and the like. It's because ED is aiming for a certain level of fidelity, and because the Russian government is trigger happy. Growling Sidewinder's Su-47 has nothing to do with the topic. It doesn't change the fact that a realistic MiG or Su is risky for ED to model and that the documentation needed to model it in detail may not exist. You may have found some documentation, but that doesn't mean you've found enough to model a plane. I do think that DCS, as a simulator, has room for less than perfectly modeled aircraft. FC does fit with that idea and now that ED has reversed their previous stance and are considering more FC planes, maybe it will open the door to aircraft that can't be simulated as FF. It's an insane price. The problem with microtransactions is that they inflate the price of items by immense amounts. Just consider how many skins are in a given module, which you pay around $60 for. If you divide the number of skins by the price you get a price per skin. Let's say it's 20 skins. $60/20 is $3. However this would mean that the entire cost of the module is skins. Not flight model, not system model, not 3D model, etc. $3 a skin is ridiculous and standing video game marketing practice is to hide that ridiculous price behind a low transaction cost to make people unaware of how much they are spending. Effectively undoing the free user files system and making things worse for everyone. I disagree. Nothing should be about encouraging people to spend money. A good product makes money by being worth buying. Also if people don't want to play something then they don't need encouragement. They need to find something that interests them. Encouragement typically takes the form of unfun forced content or hoops to jump through before you can actually enjoy anything. My encouragement to play DCS comes heavily from the fact that it leaves what to do up to me. There is nothing to indicate that what you're saying will work. Your example also works just as well with the current system where people just buy the planes. Let's not forget DCS has free trials anyway so people can already play for free. ED will probably never run out of planes. Not unless they can greatly increase the rate of module releases. For most aircraft we have one version, out of the dozens on offer. Players want multiple versions or versions with additional capabilities. ED has catered to this demand with module upgrades like FC3 (upgrade to FC2), BS2 and BS3, and A-10C II. The same can be done for other modules. DCS offers infinite content through the ME, and the DC is under development. While its current state might not be very attractive to some I don't see overpriced video game marketing as any kind of solution. The foundation for a great experience is already in DCS. It just needs more development, not to be replaced by price gouging system that just makes the sim harder to enjoy.8 points

Military Asset Pack USA 1.1.1 released! Changelog Version 1.1.1 Fixed Arleigh Burke Flight III Destroyer missing glass textures New update distribution model I'm trying something new with this update. It's available in two versions: The standard full download (for users who haven't downloaded the 1.1.0 version yet and of course want the fixed version). The incremental download which updates 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 and contains only the changed files. You apply it by overwriting your 1.1.0 installation. My plan is to release fixes (the last digit in the version number) this way going forward. To avoid unnecessary download, but still being able to fix annoying issues.8 points

Kola map the day after my birthday. Quite a pleasant gift indeed. I see nothing but good things coming from Orbx and this will be good for DCS as a whole. An odd choice, the lineup for FC 2024... The Sabre and the MiG-15 I get - 'rivals' of the Korean War and all. The F-5E is an interesting choice. I know it's not a simple as just taking away or adding bits and pieces when making an FC version of an FF module, but it seems a bit backwards in going forwards going from FF to FC... Personally, what I think would probably have made the FC'24 more competitive (against its FF module counterparts) is different variants of these aircraft instead of 'porting' an FF module to FC. I don't see how, especially considering these particular aircraft, people would want to buy the FC version over the only slightly more complicated FF versions. === F-86F - F-86A Sabre The major difference being that, unlike the F-86F, the F-86A can't carry missiles - which is perfect considering the MiG-15 is a 'guns only' fighter also. Having a 'less capable' variant of essentially the same plane provides ease of learning (the intent of FC) with the logical progression to the 'more advanced' FF F-86F module that adds the complexity of early IR missiles. MiG-15bis - MiG-15PB While eventually the 'PB' was dropped when the modifications (plumbing for drop tanks on the wings) became standard, the MiG-15PB was powered by the slightly less performant RD-45, providing incentive to 'upgrade' to the FF MiG-15bis module for better performance characteristics. F-5E - F-5A Freedom Fighter - no radar or RWR (similar to the F-86 and MiG-15 in that respect), the addition of 'tip tanks', optional IFR probe. A good mix of 'something the others don't have' but also lacking some things the F-5E has, and with no ability to really operate in night-time conditions - so there's incentive to upgrade. Plus, if someone just wants to do aerobatics or practice formations and/or mimic Patrolle Suisse without the 'clicky pit hassle' - this could be that outlet. Additionaly, with the optional IFR probe, one can practice probe-and-drogue IFR on a Western-style aircraft with simplified systems instead of the Su-33 (which also serves as the FC carrier operations option. === To me, as someone who owns FC3 and the modules above now getting FC equivalents, I know and understand that myself, and others in my position, are not the target audience for these. However, I also don't see how or why anyone wishing to move on from the FC version of these planes would want to 'upgrade' to their FF module equivalents as they currently stand. In fact, I see the opposite happening. Generally, I see newcomers buying the easier-to-learn FC versions and, when they feel confident, they'll (rightly) switch to more capable/complex FF modules (F-16, F/A-18 etc). I see the FF versions of these modules 'falling out of favour' as time progresses. Unless, particularly in the case of the F-5E, there are plans to upgrade/update the FF module to include extra options and simulate more modern aircraft variants (such as by adding IFR probes, modern avionics suites and newer/more advanced weapons) that encourage buying the FF modules, even if you have the FC version. But newcomers to DCS and existing members (especially 'collectors' like myself) alike could have been swayed to purchase something just different enough from what's already on offer (such as the examples provided above) so that everyone might have wanted to buy these products - this could have been a more profitable approach. Just my thoughts.6 points

Welcome to DCS World, where adult men spin elaborate tales of development impropriety and supposed money laundering within a criminal conspiracy case so boring, it'd make an argument at a flower show seem riveting.6 points

Not dealing with the F86 or MiG15. I think there was an opportunity missed by not making the F5 Freedom Fighter version instead of the Tiger II we already have as FF module. The Freedom Fighter is closer to the F86 and MiG15 in age. And would have been perfect for the new Kola map. Might even have gotten it just to get the correct F5 model for Norway.5 points

Same way limiting weapons exists in the ME as it stands... If a mission editor doesn't want an aircraft to exist, they can either remove it from inventory of the airfield, or, not allow it to spawn. That's kind of the basic functionality of a dynamic slotting system. As interesting as FC4 is, the only people who will be complaining are those getting into DCS, wondering why they can't fly their aircraft on multiplayer servers or the campaign they just bought for that aircraft; which in response is because they're entering late into the game for modules that are a decade old now, and the FF version is available... For the mission makers to add these additional FC aircraft; means it has to come at the cost at other airframes... So whose mouth do you feed? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for FC aircraft for DCS; but it would make more sense to have FC versions as simultaneous releases. At the end of the day this isn't "new" content; and I guess since these are "unique" modules, it means the campaigns for the FF versions of these modules will have to be made unique as well if the campaign makers want to go down that road; as... holy smokes what a nightmare. Imagine being a new player, buying something like the F5, flying it a bit, wanting to buy a campaign; you buy a campaign and you realize "you don't own this module" ..... because you have the FC version, not the FF version. That's a really good way to lose a customer. Meanwhile, Nineline mentioned art and model rework of the F-5E back in October 2021... still no news on that one either; but now a stripped FC version of the F5.5 points

I remember when another flight sim decided to use grinding and unlocks instead of continuing the tried and tested formula of it's predecessor... it went downhill rapidly and would have turned into a complete fiasco with fans hating it, if it hadn't been turned around by a new management... don't try and reinvent the wheel when the wheel is turning as it should.4 points

You've mastered all of the aircraft to the point that you are bored? You win all your dogfights and never get shot down? The SAMS and AAA can't touch you? AAR is boring? You never miss a carrier trap? You've played all of the DLC campaigns without making a mistake? You dominate in online play? And you think that buying skins or low quality modules would solve those problems? If you are bored and think the game is tedious I suggest you switch to a different game rather than try to remake this one into an arcade game. I've been flying sims for more than 10 years. (I started with Flanker 1.0) And I am nowhere close to getting bored with DCS.4 points

That is lack of imagination. And absolutely not true. I bought MI 8 the day it arrived. Still my favourite. You are making a huge thing about being a bit helpless. All you need is two guys , setting up a coop or join a server and look for something of interest. Take a brake for a while and do other stuff. We all need a break. I just stop when I notice a fatigue and fly GB or go hunting or fishing. Eventually you come back and have fun again4 points

It not about "rejecting everything", its about "rejecting things that would distort the spirit of the game". As per ED statemet, DCS is about realism, which means every module (FC included) are developend using real plane official documentation and specs: I don't think that creating a FC level module of (say) the F-22 using wikipedia data fits this definition. Personally I would prefer the same business model used with A-10C-II and BS, with new versions of an old module (revised, corrected and improved) published some years after the release of the previous one.4 points

Thats a remarkable statement. If true, why should I buy it in the first place? I have bought something very complex. Now begins the process of discovering how far I can climb that path.4 points

If we're going to be pedants, why don't we come up with claims that are at least funny. Cobra wasted all the preorder money on a weekend in Vegas, sorry guys, Phantom canceled. Iron Mike bought a monster truck and there's nothing you can do about. Grover used the money to help fund his underwater supervillain lair. There, three to start from.4 points

Hi everyone, The Split Air is a French group of pilots and modders on DCS that you maybe know from Virtual Air Festivals airshows with some of our teams such as the Wolf Delta or the Rafale solo display and many more. We're also known for our previously published mods, such as the Rafale/M2000ND and OV-10A Bronco, which have been well-received by the DCS community. Our upcoming project represents a significant leap in quality for DCS free mods: the Alphajet. If you don’t know this trainer jet, you will love to fly it on DCS World when the mod will be ready. The mod will offer the best fidelity, featuring a specific EFM ! We put a special attention into the flight model with a new modelisation, as far as we can say the result is perfect. For now, you can catch a sneak peek of the project's progress on our Discord server. The mod is currently 80% complete and we are giving the maximum to have it fully ready as soon as possible. Help us by showing your support in sharing the news and fly it when it will be out. We can’t wait to see the community flying this wonderful aircraft. Join us on the Split Air Discord server or other social networks https://linktr.ee/splitair3 points

I like flying different aircraft of all eras. It will take me a long time to get bored. I wonder if real world pilots get bored of flying an F-16. Or a spitfire. DCS has not reached it's potential yet with regards cold war and WW2. There is a lot of interesting stuff coming along.3 points

I'm not the one connecting red yarn on a corkboard. But, okay: A man goes to his doctor. He gets up on the examination able and the doctor asks him what seems to be the issue for him. Man says he's unbelievably depressed. He says he can never shake the feeling of loneliness in an increasingly hostile society. Everything is so very vague and uncertain. His happiness is so far beyond in the past, as if he were watching it disappear in the rear window of a speeding bus, never to return. The present makes him feel ostracized and isolated with the world so obsessed with profit motives and almost never with the well being of neighbors, choosing to ignore that in the pursuit of money. The future is a nebulous and unknowable certainty, leaving him with an overwhelming sense of dread about what it may hold for him. It has reached a point where he feels unable to move forward, unable to cope with it, and unable to attain a sense of happiness. The doctor chuckles a little and says "Oh, the treatment is very simple: the great clown Pagliacci is in town and at the theatre, you should go see him. That'll pick you right up." The man bursts into tears and collapses to his knees before he chokes out "But Doctor, I am Pagliacci."3 points

I completely agree with the choices of aircraft here to change for FC24. F-86A, MiG-15, F-5A Why they didn't do this and change the flight models slightly and cockpits to accommodate I have no idea, considering it's not full fidelity. The truth is simple, they are lazy.3 points
