25 July 2025 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, In light of the very successful recent sale, we have launched a mid week special with deals for many of our most popular aircraft, terrains, campaigns and add-ons, so if you haven’t already taken advantage of the summer sale, head over to our Shop and Steam and get the last of our summer deals. Thank you! Enjoy! On Wednesday, we rolled out the update we previewed in last week’s newsletter, and your feedback on highly anticipated items including the new F-16C Advanced Targeting Pod, F/A-18 Terrain Avoidance mode, and new AH-64D “George” AI commands has been greatly appreciated. Please make sure you update your DCS installation to benefit from all the recent fixes and enhancements. Read the full changelog. Among the many flight demonstration teams, few capture the imagination as well as the United States Navy’s Blue Angels. This week, we’re saluting the Digital Blue Angels; a dedicated troupe of DCS aviators who mirror the precision, pride, and discipline of the real demonstration team. If you’ve ever felt a surge of adrenaline watching blue-and-gold F/A-18s carve perfect diamonds overhead, then join their Discord now! In response to recent comments and questions made by Razbam Simulations, its proxies and/or external developers, Eagle Dynamics confirms that it signed a settlement agreement with Razbam at the end of 2024 to put an end to the existing disputes and that such agreement also provides for a strict confidentiality requirement that prevents Eagle Dynamics from disclosing further information. Eagle Dynamics can, however, confirm that Razbam instructed Eagle Dynamics to cease selling the modules developed by Razbam and its independent developers. All modules continue to function ‘as is’ and despite not receiving any access to source codes or cooperation from Razbam and its external developers, Eagle Dynamics will do its best to ensure that these modules continue to function in 2.9.X. We are still hoping to be able to implement the settlement agreement and to find a satisfactory outcome to the current situation, in the best interests of our valued community. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics MidWeek Deals Even more savings! For just a few more days, take advantage of our great deals! Mission builders may notice new and improved tool-tips and stability fixes, while mission creators receive enhanced a_do_script and a_do_file calls that pass arguments and return values. Spotting dots have been improved, voice-chat crashes have been stamped out, and we corrected warhead modelling for Mk-80 (and related GBUs) and M117 series of bombs that deliver a greater punch. Eagle Dynamics modules The DCS: F-16C Viper now features our first iteration of the AN/AAQ-33 Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP), and will exit early access following the end of the sale. Based on its roadmap, all planned early access features have now been delivered, but it will continue to be supported with additional features; the towed decoy, improved data modem, radar warning receiver handoff mode, and continued data transfer cartridge work. This is in parallel with continued bug fixing and tuning. We also recognize that there are some additional features that some customers desire, but those fall outside the stated scope of the product or would be inaccurate. The DCS: F/A-18C boasts the new Terrain Avoidance (TA) radar mode. For our helicopter buffs, the DCS: AH-64D now offers more advanced George AI Co-Pilot Gunner Commands! The DCS: Black Shark 3 includes new Instant Action missions for the Iraq map. Third Party modules The recently launched DCS: F4U-1D Corsair by Magnitude has received an impressive follow up with new art and Mission Editor functionality. The DCS: OH-58D Kiowa Warrior by Polychop received attention too and the DCS: JF-17 Thunder by Deka Ironworks got some needed fixes as well. Additionally, the DCS: Cold War Germany map by Ugra got its long awaited improved destruction models and Phase 1 enhancements! This update is now live so if you haven’t downloaded please do so and let us know how the changes feel in your cockpit. For a list of all changes, read the full changelog. I have no problem with the changes in terms of security for the general DCS user. I have a HUGE problem with this being just dropped on all of us who run or help manage servers with no notice. This should have been a preview build weeks (preferably months) in advance for us to be able to make changes and be ready for. Instead we're stuck with our players going "why isn't the server updated" and we have to tell them "ED broke stuff again, we will get to it when we can."9 points

Just spent an hour flying with the new George AI in the Caucus map, instant action, weapons range. I basically had the manual open beside me and went through all the different ways to search (direct, area and point) with no weapons then weapons to get used to the lay out. Shot things with SAL/RF missiles and the gun. It's pretty good once you get used to it, there where a few things I couldn't get to work but will read the manual again and do the mission again. Like all study level aircraft in DCS nothing is as simple as getting in and flying and shooting but with enough practice and understanding of what the systems are asking of you it becomes a lot clearer.7 points

Since this basically means it’s very likely the RAZBAM modules will have serious issues (or cease to work altogether) in 3.0, let’s hope an agreement can be reached and implemented rather soon…6 points

When I was a young Cpl we went up to Lossiemouth to do some FAC training with one of the Buccaneer Sqns. My boss at the time (Lt RM) was a complete prat and since it was a non tactical exercise he decided to set up his ground attacks controlling the aircraft from the lowered tail flap of the Landrover. 1st Attack the aircraft leaves the PUP and he brings it in VERY low right over our position. The pressure wave from the aircraft hit him, pushed the Landrrover right down on its springs and as it sprung up again he shot over the bonnet into some gorse. It quite made my day !!!!6 points

With the recent 2.9.18.12722 patch, the Iron Flag Campaign received a bit of an overhaul. It wasn't mentioned in the patch notes, so let me give you an overview. Subtitles Last year I tested some Iron Flag missions and noticed a few discrepancies between what the voice actors said and what was shown in the subtitles. With Baltic Dragon's permission, I thought "Let's quickly correct that". Well. Iron Flag has a lot of voice-overs. I mean a lot. Clicking through the Mission Editor turned out to be unfeasible, so I extracted the dictionary file from each mission archive. But that has everything in seemingly random order, so for every voice-over sound file I listened to, I then had to find the correct line in a file of 2000+ lines, which made the process unnecessarily slow. With a bit of bodging a couple of scripts together, I got all the lines ordered by their index so from DCS's point of view, everything was correctly identified, while for me it was in the proper order, making the process a lot smoother. Along the way, some common typos showed up, and for the most part it turns out that the voice actors just loved to go off script and change a little "We'll go ahead and" into "We're gonna", and a lot of stuff like that. Same meaning, different words. The campaign's instructors, BIFF and LOTUS, have particularly long lines of dialog, reaching from a simple "Two" or "Gotcha" up to around 40 seconds of dialog in a single transmission. For improved readability, these were split into paragraphs where applicable. In a lot of cases, these long lines of dialog were then repeated in the so called "action text" that prompts players to take a certain action. These are now split into much shorter chunks, omitting a lot of the free text around the actionable items, and were formatted as lists that, I hope, will be easier for players to follow than those super long lines. At this stage, if you find any typos, spelling or grammar mistakes in the subtitles, they're 100% mine (if I didn't introduce them myself, then I missed them. Well, except for some freestyle English that the voice actors spoke - the subtitles only reflect what they say ). BIFF's datalink For a long while, the instructor's aircraft (BIFF in most missions, and LOTUS in mission 9) have been AWOL from the datalink. Somewhere along changes to the whole datalink system and the introduction of new Advanced Waypoint Actions, it just stopped working. Adding new AI controlled aircraft worked fine, but with dozens or hundreds of triggers bound to the existing jets, replacing them with fresh ones just wasn't an option. The issue had been reported to ED, but with a fix still not in sight, I decided to dig into it, trying every Advanced Waypoint Action I could think of, but it just wouldn't work - BIFF and LOTUS just never showed up on TAD and HMCS. Well, if new aircraft do and some old aircraft don't, there's got to be some difference, right? And if the Mission Editor doesn't allow to edit the difference out, then maybe looking at the raw mission file might? So, long story short, I just copied the entire Advanced (Waypoint Actions) block from a fresh A-10C aircraft over to BIFF's and LOTUS' jets respectively in each of the 12 missions (10 regular ones, plus two shortened versions of the otherwise very long Mission 06), and voila: they're back! Additional fixes In some missions, the position of radio transmitters was changed to improve the quality of radio transmissions. There may still be a few cases where the radio quality of other transmitters degrades a lot and makes them much harder to understand. If you come across any of those, please let us know! In a few cases, changes and upgrades to the A-10C II module invalidated some voice-overs for what was a completed and finished A-10C campaign before the A-10C II was released. Where this makes an actual difference, NOTEs were added to subtitles and/or action texts. Small QoL improvements A bunch of smaller Quality of Life improvements were snuck in as well. The briefing images showing the flight plan have been slightly changed to make the waypoint numbers a bit easier to read in all missions. The datalink, now that it's working again, was updated and both player and instructor aircraft should have the correct GRP ID and OWN ID data from the briefing already set, as well as a sensible CALL sign, which is now the first and last letter of the flight call sign plus number in flight, so Tusk 1-1 would have TK11 preset for instance. A dialog about radio presets that appeared twice (once in M01, once in M06) was removed from the second occurrence. The weather in one of the missions was changed and should now be within legal limits for the assigned approach while still offering a challenging flight through thick clouds, with Nellis Runway 21L only becoming visible roughly 300 feet above minimums. The short versions of Mission 06 were updated to have plausible fuel values (these airstart missions used to begin with 100% fuel). There used to be kneeboard images showing the entire HOTAS tables for throttle and stick. These are now part of the module's default kneeboard, so they were removed from the missions. Credit where credit is due I want to thank Baltic Dragon for trusting me not to break these missions. Of course a huge shout-out goes out to Doughboy - I learned so much from this campaign! New members in the tester team who ran many of the missions countless times are Jakes, MadDog and Nexonix01, thanks for all the help! tl;dr Datalink is working again for the Instructor Pilot jet; a few kinks were ironed out; most subtitles were updated. Thanks for reading.5 points

I agree that Sampans and Junks would be awesome to add. If you come across a 3D pack with them, let us know! Meantime there's a @Hawkeye60 mod we listed lately in Vietnam War Assets : Junks - https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/krf42z2o26etaeeml6enm/Vietnam-Junks-V1.0.0.zip?dl=0&e=1&rlkey=ywhxt44hex4cv7xd61l4yuxb2 Good luck with your project! We decided to give Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.0 another weekend of testing, but bar any crash to desktops found, we will release on Monday 2025-07-28... Cheers, TeTeT5 points

Would’ve been great to know about these changes that would effect our servers ahead of time… our Group flight night was a fail tonight due to this new “safeguard”.5 points

Well, another DCS update went by and still no Flight Manual for the Mi-24P ... what pisses me the most isnt the low priority that this item seem to have, but the fact that the thread about the manual got closed: DCS is supossed to be a "study-level simulation", but how can I study an aircraft without its manual? ... for me it is an essential item and is the reason why I had to leave this module aside.5 points

This is my impression as well. Having flown the Tomcat from Heatblur for many hours, I don't think the jester menu is superior to the George's interface in the Apache module, for the Apache module. The button presses short and long are sometimes superior to head tracking on that Jester menu where you'd want to use it the least as possible binding Jester's actions on the keyboard or Hotas. Here on the Apache is a quicker interface for quick action with button presses and less room for mistakes. Coming from a virtual Tomcat driver, I like it.4 points

Hi team. Great job on the ATP, it's a real pleasure to see that sensor limitations are properly represented on your new TGP. Now that you've got the ATP modeled with fidelity, I imagine the presence of the Litening is no longer desired, insofar as the Litening was a low fidelity placeholder? It would indeed be nice to see the same fidelity work carried out on previously modeled TGPs ... (A10 Litening, ATFLIR) The best would be to have a modeling standard accross all DCS modules, of course. Great job on the ATP in any case, thanks!4 points

That is an incredibly dangerous assumption. Run the below mission on a secured DCS install. It will throw an error. Any of the missions I have put up on User Files (and that enjoy moderate popularity) in the past 12 months will immediately stop at mission start, throwing that error. Perhaps try this one: Error on start. "Joe User" who downloads such a mission will not know what to do, and they now need to know what to do to run a simple mission. This is bad. crash my clients.miz4 points

It seems a likely outcome. I put up some 50 missions on ED's user files, and they (guesstimate) clock in at some 30'000 downloads. Half of them will no longer work today unless the entire DCS install is unlocked.4 points

DCS 3.0 = Vulkan If ED would allow me to remove the M2000C and AV-8 from my account in exchange for modules on the website, I would accept! Even though I have practically all the DCS modules. You could give this idea to ED @BIGNEWY, or something like that.3 points

I don't agree. The moving map works perfectly well and does what it's supposed to do, and is era-appropriate with the rest of the systems. Besides, a GPS unit would be another step into yet another "MFD ridden flying calculator" instead of a proper aircraft with its own unique character. The feeling of flying/operating is also completely different. Many of us are old enough to have made road trips to different countries in the pre-GPS era. With visual navigation (road signs and landmarks), a compass and a map and we managed to get to our destination and back home again just fine I can't stress enough how much I prefer visual recon, radio navigation (beacons) and using a map over following a dotted line on a screen towards a "your destination is here" sign hovering in the sky...3 points

Why would we, as users, need those? .. I have no interest on managing a software company, I just want to have a proper manual to study the module.3 points

No problem, maybe we have misunderstood each other. We can only work on some issues when we have the resources for them, or there maybe a back log of work we need to clear first. It is frustrating, but we are not ignoring you, I have replied here, and passed on your feedback already . thanks3 points

I've already written this in another thread, and I'll repeat it here. The amount of work and improvements made to the Mi-24 compared to the AH-64 is simply embarrassing. The team responsible for this helicopter should be ashamed. All we get is information that changes nothing and is only meant to silence us.3 points

Salute @cfrag As you are well aware since I discovered your excellent tool that has contributed so much to my mission development, I became very much "a fan boy" and "biging" you up when ever I could. Your skill and support in developing the DML Tool box has been very much appreciated and it is a sad day for all of us that have come to build so much around it. I understand your position and hopefully you will be able to re-establish your self back here at some point. You will always be welcome to come fly with the Dangerdogz (www.dangerdogz.com) at any time. With warmest kind regards DD_Friar3 points

DCS Carrier LSO grading crashes clients and server. To reproduce, simply do a trap that gives a core DCS LSO grading, preferribly one with an OK wire. 2 different clients and 1 server logs `dcs.log` and the server crash dump(`dcs.log-20250724-234009-server.zip`) happened at the same time. Clients can crashe the server. This was in F/A-18C, but reports are coming from other communities with the same crash, as well as F4U Corsair. dcs.log-20250724-213933.zip dcs.log-20250724-234009-server.zip dcs.log3 points

I've previously suggested what I believe is a better solution: a true Open Beta—(implemented differently to before). Make it accessible only via command line, so only those with the tech knowledge of how to execute command lines, and also know the OB version number can install it. That way, it’s not used on production servers, and Open Beta versions don’t appear in the public server list—IP connect only. This would make it a genuine testing platform, not a general gameplay environment, and give us the time we need to adapt and see the upcoming changes and try them out. Sure - there will be some that push and opt to use it as a stable release, but it would be the minority. The previous OB didn't work because the majority used it as a stable release (and even ED recommended people use it for production in MP). I really feel we need a proper Open Beta for everyone’s sake. Far too many issues are being discovered in these new so called stable releases within hours, forcing hotfixes. That’s bad for both ED developers, who get blindsided and must scramble to patch, and for us, who have to react to breaking changes without warning. Let alone the image that it's putting out there of ED's quality. Let an Open Beta run for a couple of weeks—(1) to give content creators time to adapt, and (2) to apply necessary hotfixes—before pushing a public stable. Just a pity that ED seems to disagree that there's issues for the community by working this way and believe everything is fine as is. Nothing needs changing, with "no plans to consider...". While all along I see what I feared when open beta disappeared. That the new and improved stable release would eventually degenerate to being what Open Beta was all along - with no real practical alternatives for public server content creators (that aren't in the CB team anyway) to be proactive, and just have to be reactive and rush about to deal with bugs, problems, or breaking changes at the last minute.3 points

In my opinon the Litning pod should be downgraded. There is no other option in my opinon. The perfect picture though all digital zooms and slew movements is far unrealistic for the AN/AAQ-28. I think realism was the main aspect which differents DCS from other sims like warthunder etc. Sorry for the old eyes or the planes which dont have the sniper pod. But the F16 has its limits as every other planes has this limites. And the F16 should have the most advanced pod in DCS with the AN/AAQ-33. I we all agree with that. To leave a less capaple pod IRL overpowered in this game because some people would be furios is the wrong way when you say "as real as it gets". DCS should be a simulation and when it must be downgraded because of DCS is progressing this is the way to go. If you dont want it, there are many other sims that dont have this claim!3 points

That is true. And it requires that anyone who does this knows what they are doing. 99% of them do not, and do not care. They will copy/past someone's solution, and that one is virtually guaranteed to unlock all environments, if it's not a maliciously crafted script itself. Any solution that requires a user to know some arcanae is a bad solution. Any solution that relies on detailed user know-how in coding is sensationally bad. This solution requires both: that a user feels comfortable editing a code file, and know what the terms inside like 'gui' and 'mission' mean. You just lost 99.99% of all ED customers. Most have the ability, yes. But they can't be bothered. They will copy/paste.3 points

No discussion here. DCS needs good, scalable and easy to maintain security. In the past, I have recommended a couple of approaches in these forums how, for example, DCS could easily sandbox (better: sidestep) the lfs 'sanitize' issue by allowing a controlled, sandboxed 'writeString()' method that saves a string to a mission without having to 'de-sanitize' DCS (and compromise security). It was never followed up on. Pity. Instead we got the 'save mission' system that simply doesn't work, solves no problem at all, lfs still needs to be de-sanitized using a really, really bad 'unlock this for everyone' approach, just like this approach for dostring_in(). And to truly underscore how bad things are, the two approaches to resolving related issues (security) aren't harmonized. To me this is indicative of deeper troubling issues at ED than merely a bad IT security design team. The problem is that this new 'enhanced security' is, as implemented now, utter garbage; an inept, heavy-handed approach that will lead to LESS security. Why? Because soon (if they haven't already) videos and article will appear that tell you how to 'fix DCS' when all these "attempt to call field dostring_in" errors pop up in-mission. Invariably they will tell you to 'simply place this autoexec.cfg here, and you are done'. Because of the hare-brained one-size-fits-all approach, now the entirety of DCS is open, for every mission (not to mention providing a new attack vector through a malicious autoexec.cfg that is provided by the attacker in the video). Anyone with merely passing working experience in security can tell you: this approach is bad, much worse than not doing anything. So my opinion: this 'security' design is utterly inept, and it results in REDUCING security because everyone will bypass this 'security' for their comfort. Its like putting a fantastically complicated lock on your front door. Because it inconveniences everyone, they just keep it unlocked, opening the door for anyone. Is that improved security? A better design would allow per-mission sandboxing. There a billions of possible approaches: put the mission in a folder /insecure, and if it is in there, use the settings screen in DCS to regulate what is allowed (and yeah, lfs and io should be in there too). Better yet: have a GUI for that allows players to drag missions/directories into. Any mission in there is allowed risky stuff (configured by the GUI). Simple, and it does not take a lot of talent to implement. I'm not saying that above is good security design. Far from it. I'm merely saying that it's better by orders of magnitude than the current, inept design. What deeply troubles me is the fact that something this badly designed has made it past the design stage. What angers me is that it made made it into production. ED - you have a serious quality issue. Cheap, badly thought out code like this should never make it to the customer. This is really, really bad, ED. Please fix it. And please, if you don't have the talent, I'm sure there is ample talent in the community to help you out. Just ask.3 points
-
Yup, The new release from ED introduces a new, braindead 'security' scheme that prevents scripts in missions from invoking net.dostringIn() unless you create some arcane "autoconfig.cfg" text file in a similarly arcane location. It is simply crap design, and I'm at a loss of words seeing how ED simply did this without bothering to ask the community. The results are far ranging: slotblock (if you play foothold), ssb (another popular slot block), stopGap for multiplayer, twn, radio, ... all require the new 'security' BS. IMHO, the result will be that everyone who wants to play a modern, good mission will have to allow unsafe invocations, and this results in LESS security for DCS than before. What an ill-thought out, idiotic, crude approach to security. Goodness. And ED rammed this atrocity down everyone's throat without ever announcing it or soliciting ideas. Because it is trivial to come up with better solutions, solutions that could help DCS become a modern, player-friendly SECURE app and could ditch the silly 'unsanitize' approach of today. But no, we now have 1980's style "autoconfig.cfg" files. If it wasn't so sad, I would laugh. This is bad. And completely unworthy of ED.3 points
-
This is atrocious -- I am severely disappointed and aghast. I feel that you (ED and their community managers) could have announced this change more than 24 hours in advance (6 months would have been a better time frame), and perhaps solicited feedback from the community -- because the way that you (ED) chose to implement this sandbox protection scheme is a 1980's design. "autexec.cfg" - are you frigging kidding me? Doesn't anyone at ED understand modern UX and or UI design? Why use such an obsolete and user hostile one-size-fits-all scheme when it would be so much better to build a "sandbox on/off" switch into DCS proper, and then add a simple UI that allow users to add folders to an 'allow unsafe' box that automatically allows unsafe invocations for any mission inside? Users could drag folders/directories and/or missions into the box and - boom! - they allow unsafe invocations. Designing this is (or should be to your talent) near-trivial (I did interface stuff like that in 2 hours -- 2002, on a Mac in XCode!), and a so much better approach for users who grew up with a Mouse. I feel that this new 'design' of yours is unworthy of you, and it feels like such a blatant slap into all of your content creators' face that I am deeply saddened to see how you simply (and callously) implement a far-reaching change like this without ever feeling the need to consult your community and contributors. Are we that worthless to you? That new 'feature' of yours kills any mission that uses net.dostringIn(). You do realise that mission scripters resort to doscript_in because DCS's mission scripting environment requires this to circumvent a bad flaw in MSE's design, do you? This means that any mission today that is sufficiently advanced will stop to work and require that unsafe patch, which will probably result in most DCS installs being unsafe. The exact opposite of security - likely a complete failure of what you set out to do. Why, why, why did you not try to sound out this change with those who spent lots of time creating missions for your product? I would have expected more from you, ED. For the record, can I request that you. or someone from ED, elaborate if you agree that this is merely a coarse stop-gap and that you do have a real, user-accessible and well thought-out future version waiting in the wings? Because this? This is bad design. Will we get a real 'sandbox' security interface for DCS? I don's feel like updating the 50 (?) missions I put on Userfiles, so maybe they run, maybe not. 9 out of the last 10 missions I published there no longer work and now require unsafe invocations. So be it. I cannot be bothered to care if you, dear ED, can't be bothered to engage with your community either. What a mess. I hope that you will fix it soon. Will you, ED?3 points

I think you misunderstood me. Unfortunately, English isn't my native language, and I have to use a translator, which probably doesn't convey the meaning of what I'm saying. I'm trying to say that I have the impression, the feeling of being disregarded when it comes to comments and observations regarding the Mi-24. For example, how long the topic of the official manual or the green light on the R-828 radio has been going on. These are just two of the most common examples. I hope it's clear now. I'm writing only on my own behalf, although I have the feeling I'm not alone here. Thank you2 points

Why not only did they not fix it, but they also block down our workaround!?2 points

Obviously, but let's just say my monthly income didn't rise as much as the prices for top tier graphics cards have in the last decade - and I'd think that counts for most people2 points

It was. It is used to invoke some code in other environments and pass back data. Regard this snippet: local command = 't = loadfile("' .. path .. '"); if t then t(); return net.lua2json(towns); else return nil end' local json = net.dostring_in("gui", command) if json then towns = {} traw = net.json2lua(json) end Above (plus correct path info of course) reads all towns with their location from any map, and allows scripts to determine where something is, provide better locations, and even determine if a location if worth an attack (it is required because "towns" isn't otherwise accessible in MSE. And it simply worked. Same for radio frequencies, getting the name of the currently running mission (for easy restarts because the trigger version saves a string which buggers versioning). And of course, the venerable SSB (simple slot block) used it to pass slot blocking info. All gone to this 'improvement'2 points

Mine shipped on July 8, direct from China. I received mine on the 15th in Canada. Been using it off and on for a week now. Generally pretty happy with it, but it sure is a big and bulky headset. Just received prescription lenses for it today from VR Optician, and I'm expecting my Apache strap from Studioform tomorrow. Hopefully that will help make it more comfortable. Patience is a virtue.2 points
