investigating EXP3 radar sweep speed and updates are unstable.
Rissala replied to Rissala's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah the radar is on a gimbal, so I don't see why rolling slightly should change the scan speed on EXP3. This is why it is related to the issue. Edit: The reason why I say "slightly" (10-15 degrees) is because violent rolling can definetly halt the scan. -
investigating EXP3 radar sweep speed and updates are unstable.
Rissala replied to Rissala's topic in Bugs and Problems
I did post some evidence for the second issue. This evidence is from @IvanK and from this thread page 2. He seems to have some IRL experience on this sensor. In addition to his statement, it does not make sense to still attempt to scan the old frame after a designation. It should begin scanning centered on the new frame to save time and give the pilot a more usable system. I can't see the logic behind the current designation where the radar is still scanning the old frame. For the first issue, it makes no sense that the sweep speed is affected by some modest changes in roll since the radar is gimballed and always faces the scan area anyways. This issue does not happen with the F-16. (should not happen with Hornet either) As a logical example, you can still scan for aerial targets even when you are inverted, as long as your enemies are within gimbal limits. So I'd like to see the evidence (or just hear from you) that says radar scan speed is affected by roll for some reason. Still, thanks BN for notifying the team You are kinda on the right track but if you use the EL/AZ page often you will see the issue. Sometimes when rolling many times over at a fast pace, the radar is just not fast enough to follow the target. This as far as I know is intended behaviour. I have not seen any reduction in scan speed when rolling or moving violently. -
Anything to not allow this behaviour would be nice. Be it the FC3 tires approach or this.

Hornet has the following issues with the EXP3 SAR map scanning and the update process when designating. Issues: - When using EXP3, the scan speed (angular vel.) is heavily dependent on roll for some reason. - It is possible to completely halt or slow the scan significantly when rolling a few degrees to some direction. Rolling should not affect the scan speed since the radar is gimballed and always facing the intended scan area. (ground stabilised) - When designating a new spot with the EXP3, the system for some reason still attempts to complete the previous frame, which when combined with the slowdown issue above results in extremely slow designations and general use. This should also not happen as described by @IvanK, who seems to have some IRL experience on this system: Both issues are demonstrated in the track attached. Could be related to the previous issues with movement here: Hornet A-G radar scan speed and update.trk

Well here is me landing on the tallest peak on caucasus with the Hornet. I do a full landing, stop and then a takeoff. I get that developing new stuff affecting massive amounts of terrain is incredibly slow. But that workload can be avoided if it is possible to just change the way F-18/16 tires interact with the ground. landing on a mountain.mp4 At the very least, can you make it behave like the FC3 where the tires collapse when in contact with terrain for some time? This would already fix the problem fully and avoid many years of development. Hornet off road landing on tallest mountain on cauc.trk For reference, here is a MiG-29A landing on a mountain. (Same for all terrain thb) The front suspension collapses on a bump and I lose all stability and NWS. This is still better than allowing F-18s to land off road anywhere. MiG-29 mountain landing.mp4 Final edit: I also want to be very clear that I recognise the fact that this is not a priority issue in any way. Quite the opposite. It would however be nice for someone to officially say that this is not intended/realistic behaviour. Thats all.

Is it completely unrealistic for ED to remove the ability to land anywhere from these 2 fighters? Make it similar to FC3?
-
It is the same for any terrain. You can land the Hornet and F-16 on mountains. Do I need to provide a track for that also?

The off road performance of the F-18/16 is just pure fantasy. These fighters were never intended for any soft field ops. Common sense applies here. No U.S. fighter should be able to go at 300 knots off road, simply because they were not designed for it. (duh) This is a somewhat annoying issue since now it is totally possible to troll people in multiplayer by landing on a mountain for example and taking off behind an enemy hornet off road.mp4 Meanwhile the aircraft that did have soft field capabilities (MiG-29, SU-25) are completely useless on soft fields since the steering always breaks and the structure collapses on some random bumps. But that is a topic for another ticket. Hornet off road.trk

no bug A-10A alt hold mode not engaging
Rissala replied to Coastiejeff's topic in A-10A for DCS World
Enable the autopilot system first (LASTE) by Lalt + 4. Then do the rest as you described. To turn the system off press Lalt + 5. -
Everything related to the radar is in km like in all MiG-29s. Only units in imperial are the speed and altitude on the HUD.

Bump. Had this happen to me several times on CA. 7 month old bug and not even a "reported" tag?
-
Can confirm. All this talk about sunlight and stuff is really missing the point. This is 2 simultaneous misses with both side aspect and rear aspect shots. R73(1).mp4

I often find myself manually adding Iran to the redfor coalition when creating a mission on PG. I usually just set the coaltions to "modern" and expect Iran to be on Red.

Maybe post a track?

bump again... this just makes the MK-20 extremely limited and one of the least used weapons this is not the case IRL where it was extensively used maybe this functionality will come with DTC? Edit: Add a setting in the F8 ground crew menu to change the setting? It could be similar to the head mounted device setting. Edit 2: The F-16 already has a system in place to change the laser codes IIRC. Why not enable that on the Hornet and CBU-99?

investigating PLID to FRIENDLY/HOSTILE on an UNK track shows aircraft type
Rissala replied to Jagohu's topic in Bugs and Problems
I did reproduce the bug. I just switched a contact many times to UNK/FRD/HOS. At some point it revealed the type. Needs attention. -
reported AIM120 odd behaviour (Target selection on pitbull)
Rissala replied to falcon_120's topic in Weapon Bugs
Jesus christ. No. That is not done IRL. -
need track replay TACAN Distance Meter on HSI freezing up
Rissala replied to Ready's topic in Bugs and Problems
+1 I have had the same issue. Cycling ON/OFF fixes the issue. It occurs on long flights, but as seen by the other replies here it is definetly a bug that needs some attention. -
resolved MiG-29 engine fire on touchdown bug
Rissala replied to Faustmacht's topic in Flaming Cliffs Bugs & Problems
After 3 months with the birdstrike slider to the "0" position. I can verify that this is a birdstrike thing. I have not seen any more of such incidents. The thing that is confusing players now is the bad logic with the birdstrikes themselves. There seems to be an issue where the birdstike only happens instantly at touchdown, unlike irl where it can happen at any point during the landing approach and roll. Edit: Mark this as the solution @BIGNEWY -
In my opinion the Forrestal textures are just what I wanted from DCS: Supercarrier. Even though the Forrestal deck is darker than the Nimiz, the Nimiz critically lacks depth on the deck. Now it unfortunately looks like a flat 2D plane that is way too reflective when looking at low angles. Pic of a real Nimitz deck. Supercarrier deck

In this track I am unable to spot an F-16 which is hot aspect at 500 ft. I am flying at 30000ft. The radar just never spots the F-16 because it is low to the ground. I try medium PRF, high PRF and interleaved. Nothing works. This has been an issue after the look-down nerf happened. The APG-73 is a look down shoot down radar, so the F-16 should be spotted at some point. I expect this to be high-priority. Hornet doppler radar.trk
