Only on 3090. (And, surely, will be pointless).

Quest 2 is best bang for the buck. But your system is no that VR capable: You will have to upgrade to a full new system. Period!

Upgrade GPU 2080-3080 or upgrade Reverb to G2?
Leaderface replied to Adam's topic in Virtual Reality
And G1 to G2 only makes sense if your IPD doesn´t match the fixed G1 one because the resolution is the same (better sweet spot and colours on the new lenses and panels though). But you are in the need to upgrade GPU to apreciate that, so: First GPU and CPU to match and, then: wait to G3 and skip this generation. (Or save money 14 months and do the big upgrade on the next generation 5 nm CPUs + GPUs).... I will do that. -
Yes!: embarq on SW Squadrons. Anyway: ED said they intent to bring a new Multi CPU revamp near the end of this year. (Any mayor improvement on the game need that first, so we have to wait). They need that old engine revamp to improve terrain, physics, etc. (They know it´s a must). And you can enjoy other games in VR by the time.

Same here: Keep saving. One idea more: Quest 2 + 3060Ti (probably the same 600 $)

But Rocket Lake will be 14 nm. Desktop Intel PCs won´t have 10 nm untill AMD will be on 5 nm Zen4. With that said: Rocket Lake´s 14 nm can have a +20% IPC improvement over 10th Intel Gen with those willow cove cores. (They may retain the Gaming crown again when launched). We will see. Competition is in good shape right now. Interesting times!

If you want to be future proof you need to wait a little and see what happens until, let´s say, November timeframe. At that time you will have many answers regarding performance between AMD vs Intel and all the news from the new GPUs. And, probably, the Intel Rocket Lake estimated debut. But, right now, a 10700K and a 3080 GPU seems fairly future proof if you don´t want to wait.

If hardware reviwers use a DCS benchmark it will popularice the game more than crysis. It will be good.

RIP-S is dead from now and onto the future. No more updates from facebook. It´s an all-in bet into all in one headsets.
-
Will have ray tracing, some kind of DLSS, etc. (the same things you will encounter on the new consoles). But Nvidia will have more things (dynamic chroma, etc).... The upcoming RDNA2 are scheduled to shrink on 5 nm next year (Nvidia ones too). 5 nm will be able to consume less watts at same performance. (More than 300 watts seems a lot to me).

Vr headset recommendations
Leaderface replied to Bossco82's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
@Bossco82 : Don´t buy a second hand RIP-S (it´s really a dead platform from Facebook point of view). Get a New Quest 2 for lesser price and better visuals than RIFT-s (when they update the Link to full quality, not at the launch date, but as a near update). You will be able to enjoy ALL the games, not only the standalone ones. And @Taz1004 is right (I have a pair of fake Facebook accounts just to loging on a pair of sites and follow a seminar with everything disabled and it allready works). But for the headsets you must do a real account, but just for signing in and log with that. (Just make private all your personal info and disable notifications. It takes a while disabling all that, but can be done). I´m sure Facebook will be able to keep reading your stats anyway, but you won´t suffer too much with constant notifications, etc. At 299 $ everybody will have one. Medal of honour, HL Alyx, Sniper, Walking Dead, etc.... Lots of fun right now (And a G2 or Pimax 8Kx for the pro DCS player). But the Quest 2 will be inevitable. -

Sniper Elite was advertised in the Facebook connect, but i think it will appear in Steam and PSVR too seeing the small letter in the video. (Maybe). But, for the price: many people will get the G2 and the Quest 2 too. I think Quest 2 will be a must have VR headset. At that price (plus selling your cold soul to Zuckerberg) it may convert the VR in a Facebook monopoly...... Then the Congres, courts, etc.... But the VR finally will get popular thanks to Zuckerberg. There is not any competitor actually and in any near future. They are well ahead. (2-3 years ahead). It´s imposible to fight that. -
Same with Ryzen2 launch: AMD like to hide any information about performance prior to launch event. (They even like to troll with the Speeds in Ghz and then give some more than expected). Let´s see.

170 FPS flat screen and near 80 FPS in VR are good results with your new retest. Maybe with a bigger CPU you could improve a notch your VR eyecandy. (Or with improved drivers or new DCS engine). It seems a lot of a difference with 2000 series GPUs (in VR). And that is the suposed improvement of a 3080 in the actual CPU bound DCS: Poor improvements in 1080 flat screen and good ones in VR. It doesn´t look bad for me and sure it will evolve better with time. Edit: Have you checked if GPU scheduling is enabled in windows or not?

CPU: AMD vs INTEL + Overclocking
Leaderface replied to Krupi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
8 October: New AMD CPUs announcement. 18 October: new AMD GPUs announcement. Right now: Intel leads gaming performance. (Future is unknown). -

If you are planning on playing not only flight sims, please: don´t buy a second hand G1 WMR headset. And one thing: Sniper Elite will be a Facebook title (not a Steam one if I´m correct), so you will need to open a Facebook account to simplify things (or run it trought revive). So, Right now: a G2 for Sims and Pc related stuff (much improved tracking and controllers than G1) and Facebook Quest 2 for the rest of mortals and VR starters. That´s the way to go right now if you plan on keeping on VR for the future. HL Alyx not on your priority list? Man!: VR is in its infancy but is here to perdure as the future gaming plattform. Once you try Vr it´s hard to get back on flat screen. But VR is in the need of freeing yourself of the display cable (not that important on sims though). -
+1 I´ve said that before too: VR is the way performance in DCS have to be measured from now onto the future.

There is a leaked video with some of its specifications: new XR2 SOC, near 2K per eye, 6 Gb of own memory That SOC may have the hability to upscale resolution internally via DLSS, so maybe with a Wifi connection you will be able to perform near a DP connection if done correctly. Facebook will focus on standalone headsets since here. They have a huge advantage in that camp. Final specs on Wednesday 16. (FOV, etc).

AMD have teased yesterday the launch dates for their next gen CPUs and GPUs: October 8 for the Ryzen3 launch date And October 28 for their RDNA2 GPUs. What is unknown at the moment is if they will be hard launches (with stock to buy from first day) or only announcements and later disponibility dates. On the Ryzen3 side of things: it could only include Mylan or threadripper CPUs and not desktop CPUs yet. (Unknown at the moment). We will have to wait a little more.
-
Humm... That seems correct: when an 3090 will be needed you probably will have a better and half price replacement with better comsumption and features. The 3080 / 3080TI should be enought. Even a 3070 if not in VR. Well Thought!

I think wait and see is the optimal aproach untill all of the releases are over. If you are an active PC modder and change components very often you can give a shot on the first day aviable but the scene will change very quickly in the months ahead. (Even in 2021). Not every year you get so much announcements but the next gen consoles will force that. @Motomouse: You are in a safe position with your 1080ti to actually wait and see. (Nvidia want to shrink to 5 nm in 2021 too. They need that).

advice new rig for dcs and video editing
Leaderface replied to funcionando's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
People keep encoding video on CPU? I thought everybody were using the AVX encoder or the GPU ones. I heard they gain great amounts of encoding time and the quality is almost the same, but I don´t have experience on that. -

The rumours says October-Nov. timeframe for the AMD Ryzen3 launch. AMD had been trying for a long time to build those Ryzen3 on the TSMC N7+ node but the timeframe wasn´t optimal and I don´t know if they are waiting for such thing to happen or is something else, because they are delaying the launch. (On purpose or not). Next desktop thing on Intel will be Rocket Lake (but that timeframe is unknown at this time). But this year end will be crazy on announcements so things can change quickly. -

Wait a little for the Ryzen3 launch event. It´s coming. New PCI 4.0 NVMe SSDs?: just rounding the corner now..... and so on. It seems PCI 4.0 will be fully in use for storage and managing compresed textures maybe in a year, and Intel right now it´s not there yet (on desktop). You won´t want to waste money on an actual plattform in a couple of months (like the recent 2080Ti buyers seeing the Nvida recent launch event)
