For high end systems, I would only enable DLAA. I don't like the blurriness and ghosting in DLSS.
-
I also struggled with above and decided to disable OXRTK and installed Quad FOV rendering. DCS is running well when flying, but a little stuttery in the main menu and ME. Will try to disable Quad Fov to see the difference.
-
DLAA is my prefered method after testing alot yesterday with my Pico 4. Shimmering and flickering is all gone. Cockpit is a tad bit less sharp, but I can live with that. Very happy!

Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
MIghtymoo replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
TAZ better trees work great in 2.9. Tested them yesterday (have Caucasus, Syria and Marianas mod). -
DCS 2.9 has been released. Very excited with the results in VR. Biggest thing for me is that the annoying shimmering has totally been eliminated with DLAA. I am still experimenting to get the best settings. My initial settings: VD - Godlike SteamVR resolution 100% (down from 150%) DLAA in-game Quad Foveated Rendering Also updated both VD and Nvidia Graphics Drivers. Very happy with the visuals now. What is your new settings and recommendations?

Feedback from a friend going from Quest 2 to Quest 3: It's nice, much clearer. Not very comfy though. Taken a bit of extra tweaking. Tried VD and the reprojection is terrible
-
This is not a DCS issue. Running 72 FPS super smooth on a Pico 4. May it be related to reprojection?
-
Guess we just have to wait a little longer and test ourselves in 2.9

Hi, I use Virtual Desktop and «Godlike» setting. In SteamVR the custom resolution is 150% (above quoted resolution was approx. based on my memory) No changes done to resolution in DCS or OXRTK. I do not recommend pushing for 90fps, as you need to reduce resolution/viewing distance in DCS to much for my taste.
-
Sorry to disappoint you, but you are running with reprojection (45 fps). I have a slightly more powerfull CPU and I am able to run stable 72fps on all maps, but with reduced graphics settings (but high resolution 3850x3850). Still looks great...

TrackIR5 is by far the best headtracker, IMHO. Also tried Tobii and OpenTrack (with iPhone 13 Pro). None are close. Highly recommend the clip with IR lights. TrackIR5 is smoothest when locked to 60fps (or alternatively native 120 fps). I locked mine on 60 fps and got very smooth image. Alternatively set max fps to 60 and run G-sync if PC cant run stable 60 fps all the time.

I have been a TrackIR5 pancake screen DCS pilot for several years with both a 1440p widescreen and 4K. Always held back on the VR, «as it could not be that good»… «I would never go VR»… «VR preaching is tiring…» etc. Loved my monitor setup. Tried VR for the first time a few months back and there is was WOW!!! Smooth 72 real fps with fairly good settings in 3850x3850 resolution. Looks great without AA. Also not missing the minor eyecandy from flat screen. Monitor and TrackIR is pretty good, but is nowhere as immersive and awesome as VR IF you have a powerful PC-rig. If not VR can be just frustrating and plain out suck. VR is expensive if you want smooth frames (and no reprojection). Very demanding on the hardware. Would I go back? No! Is good VR in DCS and other sims expensive? Yes, expensive compared to normal gaming and consoles.

After upgrading CPU from 11600k to 13900k I am able to get stable 72fps in Godlike mode (3850x3850) even in the Apache in Marianas. Huge improvement in performance. Graphics settings are medium level, but still looks great.
-
Hope this map will run OK in VR (like Normandy 2.0).
-
Based on your hardware info in your signature, you should not have any issue on getting good performance in VR. With a Pico 4 or one of the new VR headsets with pancake lenses, you would have a much better experience. I wear glasses and got drop-in prescription lenses for 70USD. Works very well. But nothing wrong at all to fly on a monitor
-
If you don’t have a high-end system and/or also accept to reduce graphics settings, there will always be chasing performance and tweaking (and potential unhappiness). I am running 3500x3500 pr eye to get the quality I think is good. That is 12k pr eye. And add 72 fps (36 pr eye) and you know how demanding this is. To be able to handle this (even with a top end system) you need to lower DCS settings and do tricks like foveated rendering in some form. Also remember that your eyes are very close to the screens in VR, so you see pixels and stuttering much easier than on a pancake screen. VR in DCS is like an Iron Man triathlon for the PC. To perform well all parts/components (e.g CPU/GPU/memory/disc/motherboard) must have good/excellent performance. How good depends on how high you set the bar regarding quality and fps. Bottomline: 1. VR in DCS is very demanding on the hardware 2. Have realistic expectation based on your system. When everything is working well, VR is just insanely immersiove and fun.
-
I wish it was easier to get good VR performance in DCS. Seems like your path may be an OK alternative, if you are not willing or able to afford the high-end components to run latest DCS properly (without reprojection).

I was an avid monitor flyer with TrackIR for some years. Got an RTX4090 and ran 4k max settings. Then I tried VR with a cheap Pico 4 headset and there was no way back. Love the immersion and 1:1 head movement. You are INSIDE the cockpit! Biggest problem with VR is the hardware requirements and tinkering to chase performance, even with the «best» HW money can buy. MORAL: Tinker for a while and accept the settings you can squeeze out and enjoy flying. I am changing my CPU, MB and memory to get some better performance next Monday, as I dislike motion reprojection and stutters. My current 11600k is not keeping up… With the fastest GPU and «fastest» CPU, VR with 72 real fps looks good and feels even greater, but at a (to?) high cost. I am not able to go back to monitor, though. SUMMARY: Enjoyable VR is not cheap…

No worries. 3500x3500 is how high I seem to be able to push it. Ultra mode in VD and move the resolution slider in SteamVR to mentioned resolution. No override in OXRTK.
-
Not recommended Followed your instructions and changed only the value in OXRTK from OFF to 60. Restarted DCS and tried. Severe choppiness. Totally unplayable. When I turned the setting off again, the gameplay continued to have stutters about every second regardless of what I did. After an hour of trying to get back to my smooth 72Hz settings I decided to select a restore point for Windows. Then everything got back to normal. Now I am settling on the 72 true fps with middle of the road graphics settings, foveated rendering and 3500x3500 resolution (to reduce aliasing). When I have a quantum CPU and a RXT 6090 I hopefully can run everything on HIGH with stable 72 fps in any scenario/mission

Interesting. How do you lock at e.g 60 fps? No screen tearing?
-
Tip regarding the four top right sliders. Turn on the fps-counter. Fly over some nice scenery. Put game on active pause and adjust the above sliders in real-time. You will see changes visually as you slide them left and right. Fps counter also changes real-time… I use South Atlantic map (demanding map) for this and slide the 4 sliders untill I am happy with the visuals and get above 72 fps.
