Maybe I'm missing something here, but I think this is reading a little too much into a one sentence discription. I agree the naval/ground part seems to come and go with no explanation but I see nothing concerning here. IMHO the first part is a optimistic (maybe overly so) vision of what DCS can be, while the rest are true discriptions of DCS's focus as of now.

Looking great! Glad the team was able to persevere through the out of office stuff. Also really looking forward to hear what else you you have up your sleeves.

IFR is all about staying ahead of the airplane, and yes this requires more practice to stay sharp. flying the airplane and communicating while in IMC require a lot of concentration as well as preflight planning. The good thing about IFR is that IMHO sims like FSX with vatsim can help you retain a lot of what you learned procedurally.

Thanks for clarifying the passenger and IFR requirments. i admit i have left my IFR ticket incurrent way to long.

I see. Well if you are just wondering people's opinion then for me personally as long as I get up and do my take off and landings once every 90 days I feel that is good enough for me in ideal conditions. Now if I think I'm going to be shooting approaches down to minimums anytime soon i would want to put some effort into sharpening those skills before hand. It's always good to get up with an instructed to iron out bad habits and work on the ot of the ordinary stuff. Again this reposibailty lies on the pilot.

Ok, I am just tring to point out that it varies. I spent 5k American on around 35 hrs of recreational flying, currency and biannual last year. As far as personal minimums go, as long as you meet the currency requirement, that is entirely up to the PIC Ps. around half of this cost was split with a passenger.
-
Different countries have different currency requirements. Here in the U.S. at a minimum you will have to fly enough to stay current. 3TO/landings every 90 days. 3to/landings full stop1hr after sunset( if u plan to fly at night). And a biannual flight review. IFR requires a 6mo check ride that includes inst approaches, holds and other inst. procedures (very hard for the average weekend flyer to keep current, however in my opinion makes you a much better GA pilot). if ur flight school has a faa certified sim, a lot of this can be accomplished there to reduce costs. On top of that you have ur own personal minimums, basically how often you need to fly to feel comfortable. After that there is the cost of medical and renter insurance. Where I fly the average wet rate is 130/ flight hr. http://www.avianflight.com/rental/currency.php

Woohoo! Finally some bug avionics

I'd bet they do, it is possible that ED will not publicly comment on them for a variety of reasons. Or maybe they will, especially if pertains to features in the consumer DCS 2. I personally do not see anything strange about it. I agree it is fun to see Edge mentioned and speculate what actually might make it us, especially since so little is available about dcsw2

I am no tomcat expert so I will defer, but one thing I read that i found interesting is the lack of any flight controls in the RIO cockpit. Even instructor pilot/rios in the RAG where just along for the ride, basically the only control they had over their own fate was thier voice and the ejection handles.

Anyone have an F/A-18C cockpit checklist?

No qualms with buisness as usual here -
This guy is a former RIO. He writes some pretty good fiction stuff staring the tomcat.

Just posting to show my appreciation for the monthly news letters. Plenty of meat to gnaw on in this one. -
Yep! It just wouldn't be right without expediters turning endless laps around Nellis in these things. An AGE ready line would be cool. As an ex loader I always got a kick out the bomb trailors in falcon4. Not very realistic but they made for good targets.

A simulated dogfight in a simulation! Haha. The better idea would be to create a server with air starts near the action. In reality top gun style dog fights are usually pre set up with the objective to teach rather then to see "who's better". After a few "knock it offs" and resets everyone would get together a debrief shots, weapon peramiters and proper defensive actions. While this sounds like a blast in real life, i don't think it would be much fun in a simulator.

Not to mention the specialist sleeping in launch trucks waiting for "red balls" or "red streaks" or whatever they are called now.

Since we are talking FSX aircraft and if you are interested in the charlie hornet and are not concerned about avionics or weapons you should check out the FSXVBA hornet here:http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,6944.0.html. Like i said the avionics are still the same old FSX junk but from what i can tell the flight model is on par if not more realistic then the VRS bug. Along with VLSO it makes for great around the boat practice. It is free and is constantly being updated.

I gota say so far my favorite part of the new videos is the detail of the airbases. Datparkinglottho,Beautiful. Looking forward to some vids that include some effects; weapons, explosions and maybe a few ground units. Edit: a few screenshots of ground units in the Q&A

This may be the case but I wouldn't bank on this logic, after all LN is the same company that brought us the mig 21, a plane that probably was not high on many peoples "wish list". I understand that sales are important but I am just hoping that whatever theses planes are were chosen because they believe they can recreate them as realistically as possible like the -21. -
Well said! To me personally the most fun I get out of these WW2 aircraft is akin to visiting a museum. I get to learn and get hands on experiance to aircraft that I otherwise would have never had the opportunity to so.
