DCS Stable 1.5.3.50487 repeated crashes
Kuky replied to samoo's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
One tip when you are submitting logs/crash files. I see you have archived crash files back from 2014... why? They are not relevant to the crash you are getting now, right? What it doesn't have is crash file from today, which is what we need if you are getting crashes now/today! So... Please do this from now on when you submit logs When you get a crash, if you can replicate it again, delete your logs folder, start DCS again and run a mission (or track) where you get the crash, and once the crash happens, submit the relevant crash file from the log folder as well as mission and ideally, last saved mission from ...C:/Users/YourName/AppData/Local/Tesmp/DCSVersion/LastMissionTrack.trk This track file along with crash file is what is most helpful The track can be used to run by developer (or tester) PC and if crash can be replicated, ED will have best idea what causes it -
I think I have solution for that also. Try this Shadows.lua file attached (it goes into ...DCS*/Config/Effects folder - whatever the DCS version it is) and set Shadows in Options to LOW shadows.lua

Can you please try setting Shadows option to Flat Only. See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2690847&postcount=133

Alright, I think I have the solution. Please see my DCS Options Setting in attached image Note I have High settings (including visibility distance) and trees at at 25Km... so nothing shabby or low in the setting. My FPS was stable 60fps and I did not have any stuttering The Terrain Flat Shadows are disabled, but Shadows are set to FLAT ONLY Please try it and see how you go :joystick:

I've just taken off my fps limit and let the DCS run up to 60fps. On high settings (I had forests on 30km distance and only disabled mirrors, depth of field and sun glare... MSAA at 4x and still 4K resolution) and it was stable at 60fps and only went down to 40fps over large forests when I am low. I am certain now that tree shadows are the cause in lower FPS. But see, if I leave my fps limit at 38 I won't even notice this and DCS will be smooth pretty much all the time. I had GPU-z running and it was showing high GPU usage, up to 99% and vRAM was around 2.6GB so all working fine. There's one more thing you could try... check if your video card is actually in 16x PCI-E slot? GPU-z can do this for you, or you can check your motherboard manual and see what PCI-E slot is the main one that has 16x Bus Interface and make sure the video card is in that slot.

See my PC is very similar to yours, the CPU, well and motherboard, are only different. I presume you don't use 4K resolution and if so, I don't see you should be having issues running smooth FPS on at least, medium visibility settings. I cap my FPS at 38 using autoexec.cfg and running High visibility its mostly stable at that limited 38fps (I don't really need 60fps now anyway) and I use max distance for forests also and no flat shadow. Over cities it does go down to high 20's but its not stutter fest, either. If I turn on mirros for example, yeah, that'll start to stutter. I really don't know, if you have tried flat shadow, just HD resolution and Medium visibility distance setting, you should see nice FPS. Something is up with your PC config... some BIOS config maybe, or graphics driver setting... I just don't see you with such similar PC having so much worse performance then mine? :noexpression:

I think you have some loading issue, as in, RAM or maybe vRAM runs out and it has to use HDD or load new textures, something of that sort. I think the sudden and drastic drops in FPS are caused by that. You could use GPU-Z to monitor what your video card is doing, how much vRAM is used... change a few settings in game (always do one at the time and see how it affects performance). On my GTX980 I saw all of vRAM utilised fully in DCS with only few MB left.

No one says Allo in Australia :) G'day :D

Yes there is setting for individual vehicles also. Change as you wish.
-
Please note increasing this value noise1PerSquare has side effect of bad units spotting in TGP/FLIR (more sharp textures mean more pix-elation of the terrain, in which ground units are very hard to see) and also you might end up with more tiling effect of the terrain textures. So use at your own risk ;)

Read again what I wrote already. Settings were tweaked because they weren't good. Once more... if you have bad fps lower your visibility setting. I use 4K resolution and high setting is still very playable. If for you it is not, use medium or even low setting. Thats all there is to it.

DCS World - Modified Vehicle Dust
Kuky replied to Kuky's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
That one is in here also, you just missed it in the first post http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2655680&postcount=24 -
See this thread for modified smoke which you can use to get what you want http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=158404

Once again, because the "high" setting in 1.5.2 wasn't really high :music_whistling: If you have low end PC you should be using low setting. Just because the setting name was called high, doesn't mean its actually representing high settings, which is why it was tweaked. The setting naming is supposed to be self-intuitive. The Ultra and Extreme are for future proofing, or for someone that doesn't need very high FPS and prefers even higher visuals. Now, I will also add that this can likely be tweaked again as Caucasus is merged into 2.0.0 / EDGE, and also there are some issues with current game engine that doesn't allow better tweaking (or reducing) some of the settings. Lastly, please use low visibility setting, you won't be disappointed (it is not as "low" as you might expect) and you will get better FPS.

That's what I thought also... but after that case of my HDD blowing up, I stick with original cables that come with the PSU only :)
-
One thing that can make you psu or other component fry is if you use cables from one psu. Happened to me once when I used cable for hdd from another psu... which ended up in hdd blowing up in smoke. The pins are not always the same even if connector fits (talking about psu with detachable cables)

DCS Stable 1.5.3 drop FPS VS 1.5.1...
Kuky replied to Skulleader's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
By the way the change of these config files was in the log, but change was not explained in detail. -
DCS Stable 1.5.3 drop FPS VS 1.5.1...
Kuky replied to Skulleader's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Thats because Nevada map uses different config files which weren't changed. -
You know if you want to change some values, you should do so for all the settings, not just one. You never know what setting others use :)
-
CPU usage will not increase because DCS would already be using the CPU to its max - keeping in mind DCS doesn't use all of the cores, it is still only single thread (meaning single core) application. So with 4 cores and 1 core used for DCS fully, when you add other things running on your system, seeing 30-40% CPU utilization is normal and expected. When mirrors are on and the scene has to be rendered (calculated) again... your CPU usage will not go up, but because CPU now has more things to calculate and DCS can't use more than 1 core, which is used already to its max, the FPS will go down.

Lower your visibility setting. The terrain config files have been adjusted recently. You should probably use Medium setting (you will still have nice visibility in game) -
Afterburner brightness
Kuky replied to Coxy_99's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Its new effect added for the afterburner, it is actually more realistic then before.
